Letter to ntl, letter to the bank. Or you can stay on hold with ntl for 30-40 minutes. If it's less than a year or you got some kind of offer they may want a cancelation fee.

Im having a nightmare. I cancelled by email, letter and im still being charged. Ive now cancelled my DD to them. Im way out of contrat (4 years). Where do i stand. Ive asked for confirmation of recipt of letter and email but nothing. The bad thing is ive even taken their service out in my new house. So im still paying for my old and the new connection.

That's pretty bad. Don't wait for them. Kill the DD at the same time as notifying them imo. Registered post is all you can do and keep copies of your letters. Dunno if you can get any of your money back.

cancelled 3 weeks ago so i've a week left till they cut it. i've paid up to date and dd is cancelled so if they don't cut it and keep sending me bills, it's tough cos i've the email acknowledgment from them agreeing a date for cessation. will be interesting to see if they can get this simple thing right tho.

Possibly only if it's set up online. When I checked they needed written confirmation. Could be they are changing it.

Cancelled last month. Waited for them to take out their last DD and then cancelled it. The missus noticed last night that we now only have RTE1 (MMDS service in Navan).

    Ringing up SKY next week.

i just got off the phone with some cretin in NTL and she said that they require 30days notice an that it could be done over the phone...Should i write as well to be sure?

I have been bitching about the digital service in Naas for the last 2 years but the addition of Buzz TV was the final straw. i'm outta here to Sky

Good luck with the move to Sky. Hope you don't mind paying for all the shopping and 'minority' channels. I would suggest that you don't watch sumo tv on channel 144; sumo tv+1 on 145 or psychic tv on 886 as these are the programmes repackaged as 'buzz tv' in ireland. Stay away from any channel above no. 600 on the E.P.G. and you should be ok!

this is just another example oh how stupid the customer service staff are, when i rang up to see about canceling i was told it could not be done over the phone and that i had to write a letter to them:confused:

My parents have Sky and i believe it's easier to avoid these channels on it. But Buzz TV is dumped in the middle of the range on Chorus for some unknown reason? They should stick it in the 800 range next to the jesus freaks channel.(keep all the minority interest channels in the same place)

Anyway this was just the final straw for me, years of pi*s poor reception and imbecilic customer service have drained my will power.

A request to cancel the service **must** be in writing - if you ring in, the customer service agent will transfer your call to the Cancellations department. If you insist on disconnecting, they will give you an address to write in.

If you ring in and the lines through to Cancellations are busy, the customer service agent will get Cancellations to phone you back, but this can take a few days. Then Cancellations will phone you back and again if you insist on disconnecting, they'll tell you to write the letter.

The one month notice period is effective from the date UPC receives the letter, so absolutely, put your request in writing and the sooner the better. The letter should include your account number and must have the code CNX on it, and should be addressed to:

    Retentions Department
    Chorus/ntl
    Limerick Enterprise Development Park
    Roxboro Road
    Limerick

****They won't accept notice by email as they require the account holder's signature****

Ok but you will still have the same problem as before - paying out every month for channels that you want to avoid! Even more pi*s poor channels does not represent great value for money.Still, at least, there is another forum you can bitch on.

Quite a few of the channels available on basic digital cable are subscription free on satellite.

After long a period of frustration with NTL I eventually got rid of them by writing to their CEO Robert Dunne telling him that I had removed their new cabling from my house. They had been warned not to lay any new cables, however beware this apparently is illegal.

Cut a long story short within a couple of days of the letter I had a call from his office apologising and asking me to remain a customer - too late I had moved to SKY (far better).

I will never go back to NTL, Chorus UPC or whatever they call themselves. Moral of the story? Kick up a huge stink and go to the top man as the guy in customer service really doesnt' give a toss.

Could you PM me Robert Dunnes office address? I am going to do the same thing. Got no joy from their "Customer Services" dept.

    Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Cancel, I found it, letter gone.

UPC dont know their arses from their elbows. Ive had no luck with my cancelation. I rang them way back in feb to cancel. They said it was fine, I also emailed and asked for confimation of email, NO REPLY, I wrote to them middle of march and they now said they never got my letter. Wrote to them again which they now have said they have recieved the letter but can only take my written cancellation notice from the date they recieved the letter. So I have been moved out since end of feb and Im still being charged for my account. New people are in the old house and possibly using my account, I stupidly have had UPC installed in my new house which i am having DD problems (They are saying they have no DD set up, even though ive given them the details twice). They told me on the phone because I was going from the city to the country I couldnt transfer my old account over as there was no BB but just MMDS.

Ive now told them to cancel my new account as Im going over to Sky. A man rung yesterday saying I was now in a new 12month contract and couldnt break it without a penalty!

    Dooh!

And the annoying thing is CH4 are now transmitting FTA on satellite so I can pick it up on my FTA box. (Thats all I really have UPC for)

I cancelled my chorus just phoned them and said if you want the box it will be sitting outside the house beside the bin,They wanted to know why when i explained what s*** service and signal and breaking down ,not being able to contact someone when i had a problem. They procceed to bill me so i phoned again and explained again they so ok.
Then guess what i got another bill and a threatining letter about solictors etc.
I phoned them up and said i will not be threatened by anyone they backed off straight away I threatened with my solictor. Every time you talk to an operator write there name down, so you have some reference. In all my dealing with them i kept a civil tongue, thats the secert dont have them say you used abusive langauge at them. Best of luck in your efforts

On the 7th of August I rang Chorus/NTL to cancel my service. They said it had to be in writing. I posted a letter the same day, also one to my bank, cancelling the DD in favour of Chorus/NTL. The bank got my letter, Chorus/NTL say they didn't, although one person in their cancellation department said my letter was 'above in Dublin' and hadn't reached them yet. That same person told me to ignore the bills I was getting. Another of their employees told me that the only way to end the problem was to send, by registered post, a copy of my original letter, but that I'd still be liable for charges incurred since the 'disappeared' letter was sent. I sent the registered letter. This morning I got a letter saying they were calling in debt collectors. Admittedly it had crossed in the post with my registered letter, but when I rang up today I was told that, although they'd got my registered letter, I'm still liable for outstanding charges.

I never want to have any dealings with this company again. I'm getting more of the channels I want from Sky, for less money, and Sky+ is brilliant for recording.

I wrote a nice polite letter on October 7th requesting disconnection: my Chorus was disconnected as of midnight on November 7th. Spoke to Customer Service the following morning to confirm it had been disconnected and not just a local fault and they confirmed disconnection and cancellation of DD.

Not saying I won't have any further problems but so far so efficient.

Just to let anyone thats interested I got an email comfirmation saying my contract will be cancelled. I sent them the email yesterday requesting it. I've also sent them a letter just to be sure.

I must say fair play to the UPC rep on boards. He was very helpful in getting someone to contact me with a question I had. Its just such a shame its a joke of a service thats supplied by the company for the price being paid.

Thinking of cancelling my NTL/UPC tv after nearly 6 years with them as ive just discovered Sky can be installed in apartments now, this was the only reason i went with ntl.
I think Im entitled to leave the contract without penalty.
Is there a way of dropping the tv & keeping the broadband with them & take my tv with sky?
Im not a big tv viewer really,i work weekday evenings so an odd bit at the weekend is all i want.
Just incase its not possible to drop the tv alone,do sky offer home broadband too?

Yes, but UPC have a surcharge on the broadband price when you drop the tv service (about €7/8 or so i think)

He's been in the contract for 6 years, i believe once the initial 12 month period is over he can cancel at any time.
This is the case with all contracts you take with a service provider iirc. and there shouldn't be any charge for it either.

Yup,thats right.im with them for 6 years this june (so 5.5 years really)
Signed up to a new 12 month contract in july 2009 when i got the dvr in,thats also passed.
Wouldnt be too bothered about paying a tad extra for the BB to drop the tv package.

Can any of you confirm the correct address to cancel a broadband connection with ntl?
I know I have to give 30 days written notice and I've no problem with that - but I've phoned them 3 times now, and each time I'm told someone from their cancellation dept will ring me back with the address....haven't gotten a call back from them!!
    Thanks

Edit; Sorry I've just realised this is a bit of an old thread, but would still appreciate advice on the correct address to send a cancellation letter to, thnaks again.

    The address used to be:
    UPC Ireland
    PO Box 11419
    Blackrock
    Co. Dublin

For your own sake, please please register the letter and keep a copy. They denied getting my letter, continued to provide me with their crap service, and when I wouldn't pay sent me menacing letters threatening to put me on the list of bad debtors. I ended up writing to the Chief Executive, whose contact details a clever friend of mine found out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭mrboswell

I'm moving into a house where sky is installed.

Will have to argue with the landlord to get in upc so am canceling.
I was given an email address the Blackrock address above.

Sent an email and cc'd myself. They can say they didn't get it all they like and send me what they like - It'll just go in the bin.

Incidentally I'll be recording any conversations that I have with them and will tell them that.

Only way to make them change their despicable act is to leave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 Catlover

I agree about leaving. I eventually got a written apology. I would never have anything to do with them again. Sky are just so efficient by comparison.
