well after buying the player last month, it would be irresponsible not to buy another

pity the movies are mostly the same...

@Piper Petite Rhinoceros, i think ibood have an option you can select to pay by bank transfer, you then pay within 3 days, don't know if that would be any help to you

    "Transfer (payment in advance)
When using this method the total sum of your order must be transferred, stating your order number and surname. You will find the payment details in the order confirmation, which will be sent to you by email. If the amount has been transferred to our account within 3 working days of the order, your order will be dispatched to the stated delivery address within 5 working days (of receipt of payment). In other words the quicker you pay, the quicker your order will be dispatched. "

says 3 working days here, so i would have guessed it should be fine

Theres also a hdmi cable included, which is a nice bonus in summat costing 100 euro:D.And even if you just consider it as a top quality normal dvd upscaler, its still a bit of a bargain

Where on the site does it say that?

    From the order confirmation email:
NB: as iBOOD sells only 1 item each day it is important that the transfer is being initiated within 24 hours. When the total amount has been deposited into our account the order will be delivered directly to you.

Would HD-DVD player not play Blu-Ray DVDs

Is there any point buying this so?

Yip, thats what it says on the 'more information' section, but, in the specifications it lists "the holiday" instead of "black rain". Also shows a pic of holiday in the forum, so its probably more likely, just to let people know.

Doubt its a deal breaker for anyone anyway.

  • I wonder can you use the 5 free HD-DVD's offer with this also?

why do people say hd dvd is dead? hd tv is the new 'thing' innit? what's wrong with hd dvd? im ig'nint when it comes to this stuff....

  • Blu Ray won the war between it and HD-DVD for the HD format.

HD-DVD was a specific format of next generation DVD (higher capacity disc, superior picture and sound quality) which was competing with Blu-Ray.

Toshiba announced last week that they are giving up HD-DVD format after most of the movie studios said they would release films on Blu-Ray from now on.

The name is misleading as it sounds like a DVD player that can be connected up to a HD TV (which it can as it comes with a HDMI cable) so I guess thats where most folks confusion stems from !

that's what i thought it was, lol.....

guess i wont buy one then :)

    cheers

Bought this immediately, purely to see Serenity in all its HD glory. OT---I will now have 3 editions of the film. And when it hits Blu I will probably buy it on that too. Sad, I know.

Here's a thing: it's an upscaling, full 1080p, 24fps HD-DVD player that can also be soft-modded to play R1 DVDs. It has an ethernet connection for firmware upgrades. It can play DivX/Xvids. It comes with 9 films. For e102.

WHY AREN'T PEOPLE SNATCHING THIS DEAL UP?! Mad :)

wont play xvid or divx at the moment. maybe future firmware might add support for it... and network playback... dreaming i know, but not impossible

somebody on avforums said the 5 free dvd promotion was extended to middle of feb. which would mean it ended a few days ago, but might still be worth sending in the form

Have to admit that I thought this was a player solely designed for a HD TV.

    Looks like I am wrong.

I don't hav a HD TV yet, so would I notive a better picture on my current TV with this player?

I think I got the last one :D.

I went straight from my Inbox to Ibood and bought it. When I looked back at the front page again, it said all sold out.

Billy of a bargain - even if HD DVD is dead.

I wonder will any existing HD DVDs now be sold off cheap as well?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

lol sold out just as I was registering.

It's lack of divX support was kind of putting me off, but the price was a clincher. For anyone who mkissed out and has friends/family in the UK, amazon are offering this for £77 inc 2 discs. I can only see those prices lowering furhter.

Semi OT; pixmania seem to have cleared their shelves of HD dvd players totally....probably wherre iBood got some of it's stock...

yes DVD is currently the top format, that's a no-brainer, but so is the fact that when all of the major backers of a format ditch it it's dead, Toshiba no longer manufacturing HDDVD units, the porn industry going with Blu-Ray (do not underestimate the power of that industry with video sales), and the fact that retailers are now trying to dump HDDVD players for whatever price they can get is surely proof enough......

what more proof do you need ????

It's already started - I know there's a thread here somewhere about Amazon in Germany selling new HD DVDs (like Bourne Ultimatum) for €10 so I'd assume there's going to be plenty of bargains around.....

    Mmmmmm, HD Porn.:D

At this stage would it be a good idea to source a dual format player and buy a load of HD DVD movies while they're going cheap?

Pixmania is owned by the same crowd (DSG) that own Dixons/Currys/PC World and about 3 weeks ago, even before Toshiba threw in the towel, they announced that they were dropping HD-DVD. They most have known what was coming.

Wow the last ibood deal was fabulous, €90 with 9 of great movies, some of which are my favourite. Pity I missed it, hopefully more stores will unload their stock on ibood.

You really don't want to see Ron Jeremy's ass bobbing up and down in HD.

I ordered one of these anyway... despite having the machine from a few weeks ago as well. It works out as 9 films for €10 each really... they gave me delivery for free as I've used them a good few times.

Didnt know that the war was over. Dont really give a crap. For the price paid its ideal to replace my 360 as my primary dvd player. Was gona get the 360 HD DVD add on but this is way better.

All I need no is a full HD TV but the one I have no will do fine

still, bit if a waste of money, your buying something that wont have any new films from next year, and if you want HD moives, youll need to buy ANOTHER player.

It still plays the most popular format so why would it be a wast of money? As far as I know new releases will still be happening on DVDs

because the whole point of the thing is to play HDDVDs, which wont be made anymore, so you've basically bought a fancy DVD player that could have been bought for 30euro.

Playing HDDVD isnt its only function. People are saying this is a waste of money because it plays HDDVDs. That clear isnt the situation
