Is it Fethard Castle? Don't recognise it from that angle though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

    Where's the castle in fethard?

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Missent

    Tzar

On left hand side just as you come into the village coming from Wexford direction. Reasonable details if you put it into Google.

    Is it Kilcaven cemetary?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

    Nope, not Kilcaven.

Hint : the name of the church as Gaeilige sounds rather simmilar to the name of a largeish Village in the county

    Great picture, Tzar.

Is it Churchtown or Killag? Both of those have churches in a pretty ruined state.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,069 ✭✭✭Tzar Chasm

    wheres Churchtown?
Killag is closer than Kilcaven, but its not Killag.

oneof the locals I asked said it was called Teach Mun but its not near Taghmon

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Missent

Nearer to Killag than Kilcaven, eh? Well, they're pretty close - so it doesn't give me many options. It reminds me that I tried to find Kilcaven once and couldn't, even with a map.icon10.gif

The graveyards or churches that are "mapped" near Killag are Duncormick, Kilcowan, Ballyhealy and Middletown. I think I can rule out Duncormick but I think there's something like the ruined church in your picture just north of Ballyhealy Castle - so I'll guess Ballyhealy.

Churchtown is over near Carne by the way - right by the sea.

I'm not sure about Churchtown now, I'd have a diferent name onthe parish, but Googlemaps shows a townsland of that name nearish where the church is

    Tzar

The Churchtown I was thinking of is near Sigginstown Castle on the eastern side of Tacumshane Lake. I was in that cemetery a few years ago and it looks reasonably similar to the one in your photo.

Looking at my map, there are also "Churchtowns" with ruins of churches near Clougheast Castle further down the coast, just north of Kilrane on the road to Wexford and near Churchtown House between Tagoat and Rosslare.

    I suppose that's why they're called "Churchtown"......

Well I was going to accept Tomhaggard as an answer, but Sigginstown is probably closer to the mark.
