Hi folks was just down in the pub tonight, and i noticed a lot of people there drinking Guinness. I was just wondering what do the people of AH drink on a night out.
I myself drink Guinness and enjoy it,so i guess what i am really asking is how many people still enjoy a pint of the black stuff on a night out?

Guinness if it's a quiet one. If not then it's Carlsberg before moving on to the vodkas/jaegers and red bull. Bourbon and Coke as well

Same idea, different beer over here now. Had my first decent Guinness in a year there on Friday! Impossible to find. Tasted so damn good.

Pints: Heineken. Shots: Sambuca or absynth if I can get my hands on it, it's been a while though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,800 ✭✭✭Senna

    Pt = Smithwicks or Bulmers
    Shorts = Southern & Red

I drink Guinness... too bad it's invariably a sh*t pint almost anywhere you go in Dublin these days... so I usually change to something else once I've tested how crap it is.

absynth if I can get my hands on it, it's been a while though.

Doesn't that make you go a bit mental? Or in your case, more mental?

For pints I prefer Heineken. However, I much prefer just to have a JD and coke, though I plough through them quick enough on a night out.

i used to be heavy on the drink, then i gave up about six months ago (i'm only 15 :D)...

I was never a man to turn down any drink back then and drank guinnes if it was given to me in the middle of a forest (because yah' can't get served in pubs these days if your under18)

Dutch Gold was the main drink tho, because it was cheap and it did the job!

No no, you can't get served in a pub if you're 15.

Also, you joined Boards when you were 12?

    Beer!

    With the odd Guinness.

    Bulmers :)

    no guinness for me.

I've been drinking bud since I started drinking..... I think it's time to change, bud destroys my stomach.

I always get a bottled alternative (say heineken), and think "hey this is pretty easy to drink compared to bud!" and then go back to pints of bud afterwards. Makes no sense. From now on it'll be anything except bud.

I'll drink Guinness if produced in Ireland, but not if produced in the UK or Canada. It just doesn't taste as good for some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

Guiness if they have it, otherwise some cheap local dark beers.

    Guinness for me!

I developed a passionate hatred for Guinness when I worked in my local pub during school holidays.

In all my 38 years the only time I've ever drunk a pint of it was when I was bringing an English friend around to do the James' Gate tour and we got a token each.

I hate the bloated, yeasty feeling you get from consuming a couple of pints of any beer/porter/lager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 363 ✭✭Ruen

Yeah I still prefer a pint of Guinness, I dont mind lager the odd time either but cider makes me sick.
I have to say though more places in Dublin are getting bad for a nice Guinness, I think it's the way they pour it, they're just too lazy to do it right or they dont know how.

Guinness for the last while but thats depending on if the pub doesn't have Smithwicks [I'm looking at you Messers ]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,978 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Can't beat a bit of Guinness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

Usually Guinness, but only if I'm in a pub that I know serves good Guinness. Probably Bud otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Yet another completely stupid and idiotic poll.

Either you drink Guinness or you drink everything except Guinness or you don't drink anything at all?

What about people who only drink wine or lager or gin, for instance?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

Yep, I love me a nice pint o' Guinness! :)

Other than that I'd drink Heineken if I'm impatient or if the bar has foul pints of guinness. ;)

While on your rant you forgot to mention the BW&S forum to put the 'stupid and idiotic' poll.

depending on the mood, either guinness or heinekin, the odd murphys depending on pub

Didn't know there was one. But option 3 would be superfluous in there, I'm guessing. So I'd say it's in the right place, just the options are, as you rightfully pointed out, stupid and idiotic.

Guinness if it's good and I'm in the mood for it.

Probably Carslberg if it's not good.

Shorts. Vodka if I'm on lager, bourbon/whiskey if it's Guinness

Shots. Most things Jeiger, sambucha, tequila being the favs

I'll drink Guinness if produced in Ireland, but not if produced in the UK or Canada. It just doesn't taste as good for some reason.

All Guinness in the UK is now brewed in Dublin :) \o/

Guinness for me 95% of the time although if I see an interesting ale or bitter on tap that I've not tried before then I'll likely go for that for at least one pint!

Always start with a few pints of Guinness, but inevitably will end up knocking back quite a few JDs before the night is out

Im off the booze at the moment temporally but before I'd love the odd few Guinness when having a quiet night out. Meaning have 3-4 pints watching a game or just having a quiet few with the lads. I would stick to the German stuff i used to always drink (Erdinger) when I am going on the lash though. When I exceed the 6 pint point with Guinness I am very unwell the next day & its not worth it!

Guinness for me, but that is normally down to the lack of anything else to choose from in most pubs.

You really should have tried their own brews which are way better than Smithwicks.

Prolly should have tried it tho.

    Guinness is disgusting.

I drink Guiness the odd time, but I'd mainly drink Bulmers, Sambuca, Jaeger and JD.

I can only drink 1 pint. Too heavy, otherwise spirits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

I like the black stuff... I actually find it easier to drink than Lager. Less chemical tasting. I think we still get some good Guinness out here in Westmeath :D

Then again i do not drink much beer these days. At home i will have a whiskey (Irish of course).
Or pretty much any mix of drinks i like.. i have a fully stocked bar. No taps though.. too much effort and its not a big enough bar for that :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭Jigsaw

You can't beat a pint of the auld Guinness. I can drink far more of it than other draught beers/lagers as well so perfect for summer Saturday beer garden all day sessions. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭Lawless_Samurai

    Whiskey.... Mainly Jameson

Anything else is second place :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

Real men drink Guinness, those who can't handle it claiming its 'too heavy', well they are just boys :D

    Beamish for me.

Rarely, a few times a year maybe. I usually just have Smithwicks or whiskey and/or scotch.
