It would help if you told us her bra size.

    Smalll 8-10
    Medium 10-12
    Large 12-14

thats what they usually class them by.

You're getting stockings too? As in hold-ups? Just buy them in a shop they're all one-size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,967 ✭✭✭✭Zulu

Well I was going to get the whole kit and kaboodle! Bra, pants, corset/suspender belt, and suspenders.

By the by - what size in corset thingie?

It would have been funnier if you had said go rooting in her drawers

The corset will probably be related to her bra size..have you looked at what you want online?

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Regardless of what size she is, never buy large.:)

Size 10 sounds like medium. Small can sometimes be very small and who needs cheese string for underwear?

Hmmm. Corsets can make smaller girls look really flat, if you know what I mean. You really should be gritting your teeth and going to a good underwear shop. The staff will be helpful and wont snigger.

Stockings should be easy to fit.

By that thinking get her a small. If she has to squeeze in all the better for ripping them off with your teeth ;) and you get extra kudos for thinking she is small!! Alriiiiiight high fives self [clap]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Lil' Smiler

Also with corsets it can be hard to find the right size

I'm a size 8/10 in clothes and 34b but i've a wide enough back and finding corset type dress/dresses with quite tight bust can be difficult for me

in any case if you get her the wrong sizes she can change them.. well probably not the briefs for hygienic reasons!

or it doesn'rt fit and she gets embarassed when its too small....take it from a girl get medium underwear, get her bra size bras and the corset should correlate to the bra size.

When in the name of god is 14 a large!

    It goes in inches....

    27-29" - small which is 8-12
    30-31" - medium which is 12-14/16
    32-35" - large which is 16 - 18/20

It's all to do with hip and waist size.
Really think women have a warped idea of size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,967 ✭✭✭✭Zulu

Ah for fu(k sake. I'm just after buying a med for her!?! So size ten isn't a med?

    ...ok just checked size guide:

    Small : 8 - 10
    Medium : 10 - 12

Seems I'm ok, pheww. Minor heart attack there.
Ladies - thanks a million for your help. Bought last night (didn't quite realise how expensive these thing were!!!)
    Hope she likes them.

I was talking in general.... im just in a pissed off mood... fair play to ya for getting off your arse and buying her something nice.

I just hate the image woman are projecting these days.

    Join the club Jules:D
The weight thing pisses me off, I've been a size 0 (kept the clothes to remind me) and its not healthy at all, I've also been at a stage where I've been sick and put on a few stone and been a size 16. The way people treated me and assumed I was a lazy arse when I put on weight was astounding, it really makes you realise how superficial and false some people are.
Now I'm a 14, some people still think I'm fat.. I think I look good, i have the proper curves in the right places. I'm happy in who and what I am and if people have issues with it then thats their problem.

I apologise Zulu, didn't mean to do that. Where did you buy them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,967 ✭✭✭✭Zulu

Ah no worries - it got the blood pumping first thing; woke me up!
I got them in Agent Provocateur, nice and not slutty. ...I hope! Was it a good choice? (I suppose it's a personal thing so I'll find out soon enough!)

I'm getting all excited now. (It's great, a present for me disguised as a present for her ;) everyones a winner)

Oh, she'll deffo have heard of them.

Think of it like this - Ann Summers is the tacky souped up boy racer car, cheap and with go faster strips.

Marks and Spencers is the sensible Volvo, does the job and is dependable.

Agent Provacateur is the Rolls Royce of lingerie - seriously classy.

So, what does that make La Senza?

Hmmm I'd put them between AS and MS, only because MS is more expensive, but i'd wear la Senza more :D

Yeah I have to say great choice
I recently bought a corset in la senza and I ordered a 36dd and its too tight everywhere except the bust area I mean tight to the point I won't wear it which is **** because my boobs look fantastic in it
    :(
    I'm a 14 and i have a 33" waist last I checked so I am by no means what is considered a big 14

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,967 ✭✭✭✭Zulu

Ok, so back hear again, but I've progressed a lot since we last spoke. So much so, I've been into a shop asking for help!
So what do I want back here?
...can anyone tell me why a man can't get a corset/basque for a lady with a larger bust?!?
They all only go up to a D cup on Agent P. or figleaves, or la senza. Ideally I'd go back to AP, but nothing. They can't be got. Why?
Or is there somewhere else I could look for a bigger busted lady?

    Many thanks again!

Online might be your best bet if you want a corset for a larger bust. Have you given her the other stuff yet???

Not to rain on your parade but I'm a size ten/twelve and I'm always swimming in medium underwear. Small seems to be a ten size. But maybe that's just me.

I tried to go shopping this week. :(
Size 14 is actually XL now. S is an 8. XS is a 6!
    WTF! When that happen!

While we're on the subject, is it just me or do wimmins in general require a size smaller than their dress size for underwear??? I'm always swimmin in a ten.

Agent Provocateur is expensive, most of their stuff is gorge but some is a bit trashy, its obvious what the slutty stuff is though, with the nipple peepholes etc. Sizes are crazy nowadays. My friend was in brown thomas the other day and tried on a size 12 dress, to her joy it was too big and bounced back to the assistant and asked for a 10. The reply was the assistant didn't think they had any of the bigger sizes left!! Designers and stores have a foul attitude to sizes now

I was in a Tally Weil shop y.day and nabbed the last pair of ten jeans going. All of the other racks contained tons of size six, four and zero. I was like Hah!!! Bein smart with yer teeny weeny sizes and now no one's buying them!!! Clothes shop assistants are generally foul creatures anyway. Other than A-Wear ones who, for some reason, always start up a really nice chat with me.

Anywhere online you can recommend? Figleaves, AP, La Senza have all come back with nothing for me :(
I have of course given her the other stuuf (thanks ladies) and she was delighted with my choice.

I actually always go a size bigger for my underwear -- I'm a size 10 in clothes but that size in underwear always gives me appalling muffin top. I wear 12 or 12-14 knickers just to get a smoother line.

My example of sizes is actually from Tally Wiehl.
So you think a ten in there is actually a Large?

Thats why i have stopped buying bras from penneys. i have both B and C's that are too small and i have no clue of what chest size to get because every bra is completely different there, plus there are v. many horribly trashy slutty ones there..

i firmly believe that IF the government that is currently in at the moment, regulated the clothes industry and said that a size 8 is a small, it is X inches, size 10 is etc etc etc then we would vote them in time and time again because all the women would be so happy that they can finally be sure of their size and we wouldnt have these sorts of problems!

I stopped buying bras in Penneys because the underwire in them squeaked so loudly I was conviced people could hear me coming! :o

You might be on to something there.. if while they're at it they could mandate that trousers cut for women should take into account that most of us have waists that are quite a bit smaller than our hips, I'd be happy as a clam :) (totally off topic there but it can't be just me that finds it really hard to find trousers that aren't massive on my waist when they fit my hips, or totally bet onto my hips when they fit my waist.. I'm not overweight, I'm perfectly fit and healthy, they're called curves dammit )

My waist fits fine, but I'm straight up and down, and I end up with wings in trousers where my hips and behind should be. :(

There is no happy one suits all solution.
