    There's always one. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Size 20 (I know omg!) last week but now a size 18!! hoping to get down to a 14 by May for my wedding! wish me luck girlies! Already lost a stone since beggining of the month.

That's brilliant foxy! Well done!! You can do it!! :D

Varies enormously. There is no standardisation between different shops on sizes! For example, I take size 8 jeans in River Island, size 10 in Topshop, and have some size 12s as well. With regards to tops it seems a bit more uniform - generally size 12-14 in tops as I've a broad back and slightly busty. Makes getting dresses hell though cos what fits perfectly around the waist won't zip up to the top, and what zips to the top isn't very shapely around the waist...Grrrr! :o

It varies from shop to shop but generally a size 10. I can be a 12 in Vila but an 8 in Penneys. On top though its 12-14, which is really awkward when it comes to buying 2 piece outfits or more recently a bikini.

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Milani Rapid Numeral

    usually 12-14
some 14s too tight, some 12s hanging off me
    bit odd
always 12 in tops though chest sometimes means i need bigger which is a pain since i hate a top having a loose waist

    Hello my body-double :D

I'm a whopping size 18 - 20 depending on where i buy, not that there's a whole lot of choice for us bigger gals. Always plan to lose weight, but always find an excuse why i can't get out walking more, eat better (not like i don't have a choice with the job i have!)

Its all ass and boobs, no kankles thank god. I'm a confident girlie though, could always handle the stick. You would think with 4 young kids and a full time job it would be hard not to lose it. Sister is a size 8 and tells me "hunger is your friend!" wtf? it would be if i ever stopped eating long enough to feel it:D:D:D. I'm not happy with it, but happy by nature, maybe this year....meh, maybe not ;)

    I was a size 12 for years, but since I had baby no.3 I can't go below 14.
Themadchef, who would you rather be, you or your sister? There's no enjoyment in life being hungry all the time. Anyway, I find there's not much choice in many shops once you're over a size 12 as there seems to be a lot of emphasis on size 0:eek:
Working in a hospital, I notice all the time that when women get older, the healthier and younger looking ones are the ones with extra weight on them, compared to the gaunt-looking hump-backed skinny ones.

ek was size 10 but sometimes 12 due to my E cup but now im a good 12-14. losing weight because im more comfortable being a curvy 10 then a slightly pudgy 12/14 due to my frame. going well so far, losing weight off my face everyones noticed, now this week i'l be back to the fitness regime that went out the window due to college, that'll set me straight :)

I'm an 8 but I recently bought a pair of black trousers in River Island in a size 6, even though I've got bigger recently not smaller! I was considering leaving the label hanging out so everyone would think I was super skinny! I think it just goes to show hoe arbitrary sizing is.

I've a size 10 naughty nurses uniform I fit into quite nicely ^_^

Surely you can't buy a size zero (that would be like a size 4) in anywhere but the kids section.

God no, as far as I know topshop, Miss Selfridges and New look do a 4, I actually remember reading somewhere that topshop was bringing out a 00.

Haha, reminds me of a few months ago I was browsing in Topshop, picked up this tiny t-shirt, and thought that it had been subject to shrinkage! then I looked at the label and it was a size 4 (American size 0)....it was so tiny...thought it was a child's! scary!:eek::eek:

    +1

I've put on weight (barely but FINALLY!!!!:D ) in the last year but have found in a couple of places I can be a size 6 , but also in shoes I can range from a size 3 to a size 5:confused: t'is madness!!!!

If Im buing stuff on the internet then Im a 12 but In reality my size completely fluctuates.
I have the widest hips ever so I im size 14 on my hips but then I have quite skinny legs so size 14 trousers always are far too big for my actual legs.
Im a size 10 on top but that translates to size 14 in pennys sizes and size 12 in Topshop sizes.

Size..4  Jesus....does that size come with a free meal............

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭Crazy Catlady

I recently started wearing a ten on the bottom and a 12 on top, but since Christmas and stopping smoking 10 weeks ago, I'm finding them gradually getting tighter.
I don't worry what the label says but I do feel that things look better on me purely cos my tummy had flattened out a bit. But I'm a curvy gal and I like it that way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭stratospheres

    I can be a 6, 8 or 10 in tops depending! (Thanks to my D cups ;))
I'm a 6 on the bottom but I have a pair of shorts from Topshop that are a 4!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 968 ✭✭✭Pigletlover

I buy size 6 but I don't actually think I'm that small, most people guess that I'm a size 10! I find it really hard to find trousers because I have long legs and most shops only do size 6 with short or regular legs and I hate spending a fortune on clothes for work! Zara trousers are nice and long but the legs can be very narrow and I think River Island's sizes are a little roomy.

Size 6 in bottoms and size 8 to 10 in tops. The variation in sizes out there is unreal :( Find it very hard to get suit trousers to fit - what is it with them? the size 8's are HUGE.

The only exception is maybe topshop - they're sizes are getting smaller and smaller...actually saw a size 2 in there the other day  don't know if it was an american sizing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,308 ✭✭✭Pyjamarama

I'm a size 8/10 on top but 10/12 on the bottom. Have a small waist but big booty and thighs so finding jeans that fit me properly is unpossible! Always oceans of space around the waist, very annoying! Penney's have insane sizes, as do H+M, I've got clothes that are size 6 and stuff that's size 14 from there. Trousers sizes are completely different in every shop too, very much trial and error.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,596 ✭✭✭RubyXI

Im a bit suprised by the results. I always thought the average was 14/16

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 842 ✭✭✭Weidii

Let's all go to America and be a size smaller :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,613 ✭✭✭✭Clare Bear

8 on top, 10 on bottom but like ye said, every shop varies....you come out of H&M thinking you're a size 6 and come out of Top Shop sometimes wanting to hang yourself cause you're 2 sizes bigger than you thought you were. It's really annoying, there should be some rule that all sizes are the same.

Yeah I'm surprised at the results too.

Actually, two sizes smaller. I'm a 4 in America and had to buy lots of things in a 2. Very wierd!

    I'm from the States, and here I'm a size 0/2. I think that translates to a 6/8 in Ireland/UK.

I have tops sized 8, 10, & 12. All of which fit me perfectly.
    I'm a 10 on bottoms.

8-10 for tops and skirts, 10-12 for trousers. I was an 8-10 all over but my Christmas indulgence put paid to that..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,234 ✭✭✭Malteaser!

I'm usually an 8 on the top and bottom but sometimes i have to get a ten just coz the leg is longer, though they tend to be too loose around the ass/waist!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 212 ✭✭Villaricos

hello, new to the Lounge *waves*

glad to see Im not the only one with size confusion.

Im usually an 8 in tops but have a handful of 6 tops too.

Trousers Im convinced Im a 9! 8 is too tight, 10 too big. In every shop. I normally go 10 for the comfort though
