ok if your sniping few bits of advice :

if your in an urban environment try and find an area with only one entrance and place claymore(s) in strategic positions along the entryway , making a sure one claymore doesn't take out the other when exploding

once both are gone move positions . ( recomended )

also recommended from the perks list is the iron lung ,
    handy for ensuring headshots

and the invisible on radar one . ( does what it says on the tin )

in an outdoor environment , never settle in one place after a kill with open areas its too hard to predict enemy team movement and opens you up to a world of pain when trying to survive for any length of time

a good side arm is always handy :D

I recommend you play the domination game. You rack up xp easily and your enemies are not as hard to eliminate compared to deathmatch as theyre concerned on the flags

Domination will rack up XP but wont improve you as a player - I recommend FFA...
As mentioned before keep moving all the time...
also shoot from the hip if you stumble across an opponent - the second before they raise their gun gives you an advantage...
If you are hit get down as soon as you can...
The claymores are great for protection and racking up the odd kill but noobs dont see them for ages...
    Enjoy!

As far as snipers go....the standard original one is the best

You'll be impressed with the sound of the .50 cal and think...whoah..i gotta have it...but trust me, the original is definitely the way to go ;)
In every clan match and standard play, its the only sniper i use...way better than all the others.

Ironsights (righ click)..should always be used.

Learn to use the M14 as it will improve your aim due to it being single shot

This is your opinion and is in no way supported by the facts. As you can see from here, the last 2 snipers are the same (and better than the first three) as they all have the higher or equal modifiers than the others.
Whether you want to use a bolt action or a semi-automatic is up to you.

    Hi,

Just got online for the first time.

How do you get a red dot sight???

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 573 ✭✭✭rgt320q

Get 150 kills with the weapon you want it for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 635 ✭✭✭agentgreen

Your kidding me, that seems like a lot?

    Thanks.

Red dot sight only requires 25 kills with that weapon.
For example kill 25 with m16 and you have red dot dight.

Pretty much everything that silverfish has said +

    Know the Map
Wait a minute or two after the map starts and just look at the positions of your team mates and where they stop, where they charge etc. Follow someone with a high rank and just note their actions and copy. Most games, including this one you can predict movements, initally where grenades are thrown, where people rush, where snipers camp etc etc. Predictive play is what its about. Learn quickly. Pay attention to the map on the top left

Ignore the ingame chat and voice coms
Its just for your own sanity. People calling the grenade launcher "the noob tube," whilst they camp in one position and snipe are clinically insane and should be ignored at all costs. Ingame acronyms and abbreviations will reduce your intelligance levels and maturity 10 fold. These need to be ignored also.

    Play battlefield 2142
Its simply a better game. heh just joking...

Never heard of anyone being told to leave a server for being new tbh. Unless you were new the whole fps genre and basic rules like teamkilling etc arent known.

Id say you would be best going to a big server with 24+ players on it, so you being new and your mistakes you make arent as well known on the server where on a smaller populated server they would be.

Also probably best to stay away from search and destroy mode as its usualy more competitive and if its only a 5v5-8v8 etc your mistakes will be noticed at least until you get the hang of the game.

Id say try out hardcore mode and do free for all, team deathmatch and other games where your just going randomly from point to point over the course of the map killing people.

Find a server with all these and your sorted. Also bare in mind you will rarely be asked to leave from a server because your new, only if your really messing up other players games and annoying them you might be. Ive never seen it meself in the two years Ive played, but then again i stick to the same servers where the players arent muppets :)

When you find one you like stick with it

    thanks in advance

Your ping could be high for loads of different reasons. So its hard to tell what you can do to make it lower.

Though make sure to use a wired connection to your modem and not wireless as wireless isnt the best for gaming and will make your ping higher. Also make sure your not downloading anything while gaming. This includes someone else on another pc/laptop on the same home network on the internet. If its none of these things that is causing the problem it might just be your interent connection to your isp and youll have to sort it out with them, or a virus or something.

Do a ping to 78.137.160.11:2304 game server. You should be getting low pings to it, as its based in ireland.

They might be voting you off as youve got a huge ping. Also it could be punkbuster kicking you?

thanks IgsTer unfortunately have to use wireless modem where i am still waiting for 'broadband' to come! know this sounds stupid but how do i get to the server you mentioned?playing cod4 on an imac, all new to me

Forget camping...run like a blue arsed fly around the maps and take every mutha out :)
Your kill/death ratio will be fairly close but you will easily win all games if ur any good.
Also use last stand say for Assault class...the noobs always forget about LS and you can blow them away while they're still screaming and whining :D

So your internet isnt through broadband no? is it dialup 56k? or a wireless provider. Eitherway your ping is going to be high yeah. Espcially if you conenct to your modem by wireless too and not ethernet.

To join the server you should be able to bring down the console at the main menu using the ¬ key above your tab key and to the left of your number 1 key and under the escape key.

If the console doesnt drop down you may need to enable it in your options menu.

once you get it down type /connect 78.137.160.11:2304

and you should join it. Its probably the best ping youll get on a cod4 server, its fairly active and is team deathmatch mode so not too serious

There's noob camping and then there's strategic camping. If the opposite team insists on all rushing the same area every round there is nothing wrong with hunkering down in the area and waiting for them. Noob camping involves picking some arbitrary spot and just staying there holding up the game when everyone else is dead.

While most servers are full of morons, you will find a few that will often have some good funny people playing. Having some good banter while playing is another positive point of COD4 in my opinion. I don't see how acronyms reduce intelligence however. It's only natural to streamline communication in order to be able to send a message as quick as possible while being fired upon.

I abhor martyrdom and last stand completely. Bull**** perks and I only play on servers without them.
