Any chance of getting a sticky on hints and tips for paying COD4 online. I myself have only started playing OD4 on XBOX live and want a bit more info on stuff like.

    1. Since your location on the map is advertsied when you fire, what happens when you throw a grenade? Is it advertised where the grenade detonates or where you are when you throw it (if at all).

    2. I've been killed a few times by helicopters/airstrikes. Do other players call these or is it done by the server.

    3. Are there any maps/game types more suited to beginners?

Grenades dont give away your location.

3 kill streak = UAV, 5 kill streak = airstrike, 7 kill streak = helicopter

Team Deathmatch to get you used to the game 1st I would think.

Seems to me practising ballet is the way forward. Some of the jigs and reels I've seen players do to avoid getting killed is silly to look at,but works, when I'm trying to kill them anyway:D

What do you mean by this, (bearing in mind I think I've only ever killed two people before dying...)

Are these automatically generated when the above killing streaks are reached.

Do they affect all players or is the player with the kill streak immune to the these

3 kill streak = UVA: by pressing 6 you get locations of enemy players on your radar for 30 seconds.

5 kill streak = airstrike: by pressing 6 you get to drop an airstrike anywhere on the map try to use it after you or somebody calls in the UVA

7 kill streak = helicopter: by pressing 6 you get a helicopter which targets enemy players.

    1) Dont stop moving. If you stop someone will pick you off fast. Only time you should stop is when you have cover (like in a room) and when the entrances are guarded by claymores.

    2) If you're new then your aim skillz are gonna be way inferior to the better players. Get a gun that can pump lots of bullets and then when you find yourself close to someone just mash the trigger and try and point it. I know this is frowned upon and a noob thing to do but if your aim is bad then you wont be able to pick off peope with small bursts.

    3) use cover, if you have your back to a wall then the chance of getting killed is immediatly cut in half.

    4) Play free-for-all. I find the players in here to be of a lesser quality than in the team games. Probably an imo point.

hi as anovice myself i've only learned that you must keep moving i tried to be a sniper and hide until you get to know the right places to be its a waste of time plus once you've killed someone they know where you are

Ah but it's so much fun staying exactly where you are and then defiantly killing the poor guy that comes to seek revenge.
Remember that sound is incredibly important and it's quite easy to hear people coming up behind you.

it would be a good idea to play with a mouse and keyboard. Pads are terrible for online first person shooters. You get your ass kicked every time against someone with a mouse and keyboard. Get one, and the frags/airstrikes/heli's will come your way VERY fast!

Which games currently allow both console and PC gamers to play on the same servers?

Which games currently allow bot console and PC gamers to play on the same servers?

what? Server bots? loads of games and servers allow bots in the server. Infact i often join random servers and find bots running about, its been happening since the days of quake.

Console verses pc wont happen, for multiple reasons. Consoles will never match up to the power of a pc. Maps in a console get compremised so that game will run smoothly. Other than that, pc games get updated with the physics and game engine overall to weed out bugs, its not the same with consoles.

if your trying to make the point that, pc gamers will never play against xbox gamers, whats the point in using a keyboard and mouse.. my friend in london has a mouse and keyboard plugged into his xbox for playing games with, i think that answers that point

Shadow Run, also I think one of the quakes on the Dreamcast was hacked to allow pc players into Dreamcast servers.

And how do 'Shadow Run' Console Gamers fair against PC Gamers then? That's very interesting!

Put the grenade launcher on the M4, this is called 'The noob tube' by the more experienced players, i dont see whats so bad about it...They put it in the game for a reason. You can gets loads of kills with the grenade launcher! Put the perks on for extra damage, so you can shoot them dodgy snipers hiding behind things, Its a great medium to long weapon.

You will pile up the kills, and complete the challenges, and get promoted faster. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭Seifer

It's called the noob tube because people new to the game will find it attached to the rifle as default, use it and realise, hey I can kill guys with this thing by only aiming kind of near them.
Once you play the game for a while you quickly realise that shooting someone is the quickest and easiest way of a guaranteed kill so the less time you spend using this the better.
On top of that, 3 x frags will get you more kills than the grenade launcher and claymores have their uses as do some of the other blue perks.

Well said Seifer! It's called the 'noob toob' because only noobs use it... If you know how to aim you won't need such a contraption!

Its one of the easiest ways to get kills, you hit walls behind people and it kills them, you can shoot it in windows or into rooms to clear the place out, Its great for taking out the chopper! But after many laughs and a thousand kills later, i realised theres more to call of duty 4 than the noob tube, i found the 50 Cal! WHOO! :D

In testing, initially quite badly. But soon they began to dominate, so the control system for the pc was gimped by making the guns incredibly inaccurate when moved fast.

Testing was done with some top CS teams and Halo(x-box) teams.

Hmmm... So they try to compensate the keyboard & mouse advantage by making the PC game less accurate? Well I think that's a load of honk!

I hope PC Gaming & Console Gaming remain completely separate (especially for FPS games) for ever and ever and ever and ever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,011 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

I don't think there is much of a difference between the two versions, but rather they gimped the game overall. Pinpoint headshots don't mean much when your gun sprays everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,906 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

Oh ok, so the game is gimped for both types of gamers... Great! I love when a FPS Game is inaccurate!

There are lots of places to put claymore, such as beside cars, doors,in grass, boxes and generally hot spots were people always walk past, You will notice people will walk the same routes on levels.

Take this to your advantage!

    1) Use grenades effectively
Running into a hot area? Throw in a flashbang/stun/frag to try and eliminate any potential threats or at least weed them out (the first instinct is for the enemy to run away from the grenade indicator). If an 'x' appears in your crosshair then your grenades are doing damage (so you know someone is in there). This is particularly effective in objective based modes like Headquarters where you'll practically always find someone in the base before you (unless it appears beside you).

    2. "Snipe and Scamper"
When you fire your sniper rifle, move to another position nearby as you appear on the enemies radar and your former position will be the first place they will look for you. By moving you are giving yourself a few seconds advantage to get your shot in first the next time and maximise your chances of staying alive.

    3. Pick Perfect Perks
Perks like Martyrdom and Last Stand and next to useless on maps like Overgrown and Bog where there are many open spaces and you're often being killed from medium-long range.

    4. Use your radar
As you know, whenever a weapon is fired, they appear on the radar for a few seconds. Try and use your radar as often as you can to try and locate and pinpoint nearby enemies. On objective based maps this is of particular use as enemies have little time and space to move in when you are trying to reclaim an area.

    5. Wallbang!
This is made somewhat easier with a high caliber gun and the "Deep Impact" perk. You'll often locate enemies on the radar and discover that they are behind a wall or in a nearby building. A quick spray to the left and right of their location should quickly reveal which direction they are travelling (the crosshair will change to let you know you're wounding them) and allow you to pick them off.

    6. Stop and Drop
If you find yourself being flashed or stunned, it's difficult to try and escape on foot (you're either blind or moving in slow motion). Instead, drop to the prone position. This buys you a precious few seconds as storming enemies are instinctively aiming at head or torso height.

    7. Take out the chopper!
Once a helicopter has been called in, it spells bad news for your team. Not only does it rape your team but it also racks up a tonne of points for the other team and gives them the opportunity to call in UAVs and Airstrikes. Once you die you should change class to something which has an RPG and quickly take out the helicopter therefore limiting the amount of damage the Helicopter deals to your team.

    One word - "Ironsights"

Going into or walking past an open space... look down your ironsights before you turn the corner. Entering a room... a quick gander in the door down the sights before you enter can help pick off people or claymores. Weapons like the G3 or M14 that fire single shots are great with the sights. I also like the M16 sights better than a red dot. Also when someone across the map is shooting at you with a mini uzi or AK and you take the small bit of time to line up your headshot while they spray frantically it works a treat.
