I think I've seen that pic before actually. And they may all live there but you never see them. I was there for 8 months in 06, saw a few big spiders but no deadly ones. And no snakes whatsoever. They're all in rural areas as far as I can gather.

They're also not nearly as big as first imprsessions might make you think they are.

Compare them to your mans sleeve on the right hand side for a bit of scale.

Mmmm, imagine how many of those lil' buggers crawled down his mouth while he was asleep before he found that hive.

Would put you off sleep if you woke up with loads of them tiny buggers in yer mouth.............or the massive one stuck half way in.........with it's thick legs wriggling away in your mouth trying to get a grip on your teeth and biting away on your tongue............lovely!!

Don't understand the "eww" & "horrible" responses from people but that is one big f*cking spider (using the roof borders as an approximation of scale since they all tend to be about the same size in different houses)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

All I'll say is thank **** I havent seen any of those bastards over here

Knowing my luck though I'm bound to discover them on my bed tonight :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,606 ✭✭✭Jumpy

Its a just a big Wolf spider in bad light. They are harmless and run away from you.
They will bite, and it would probably hurt, but it definitely wont kill you, it would barely even make you sick.
I have shaken funnel webs out of gardening gloves and had my dog killed by a tiger snake. You get used to it.
