Haven't tried it but I would imagine it's not very good. In that sort of price range there is only one option that I would consider and that's the Google Nexus 7. The 16GB version is only €239.99 in HMV but you will have to put your name on a waiting list as demand is very high.

Posted this on the hardware discussion threat but I may as well post here as well.

Dabs are offering a free copy of Dirt showdown (€30 on steam) for free with any of the following graphics cards below:

    http://www.dabs.com/learn-more/components-and-storage/amd-claim-dirt-showdown-free-promotion-11663.html

good deal for anybody looking to buy a 7870, 7850 or a 7700 series card :)

(note: this offer is only displaying on the dabs.com site, but I ordered a 7850 off dabs.ie and had no problems getting the code)

Looks like a great value 7870 on hardwareversand:

    Sapphire 7870 for €222

A good bit cheaper than most other 7870s, but if I'm missing something, reply in the BA discussion and I'll delete this.
Seems quite generous even with the recent price cuts.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC

According to users, two of this in RAID0 (120GB) can get 421MB/S Read - 471MB/S Write

anyone buying off hardwareversand send me a pm with the items and i'll see if its possible to get a discount. i'm sure most people already know this without me mentioning but just in case.. doesn't work on every item though.

Not a fantastic drive but it is damn cheap! Delivery is €15 or so, so it'll be a better deal if you're buying other stuff on scan.

Very quick delivery on the vertex+ drives, mine arrived today @9am, I ordered on the 13th, went out @5:56PM for delivery, then the weekend... it's pretty much 2 day delivery.

OCUK are doing a Crucial V4 256GB SSD for £99.95 which is a very good price .

Beware that is a SATA II device and therefore not too future proof. There's better value to be had in the 6 Gb/s market IMO.

    - Interface Speed: 3 Gb/s
    - Seq Read (MB/s): 230MB/s
    - Seq Write (MB/s): 190MB/s

For example this one is SATA-III for only £30 more:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-077-OC&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2393

    - Interface: SATA-III / 6Gbps
    - Maximum Read: 525MB/sec
    - Maximum Write: 500MB/sec

    What brand?

Asus. They have different vendors of several cards, but it appears to the Asus 6670/6450/6770's that are reduced. I got a 6670 for 49.99 a few weeks ago. They even have different classes within the vendor, eg. they had a 6670 Media edition, and a 6670 Gaming edition, both Asus, the only difference being about a 20mhz clock speed, but the Media edition was reduced to 49.99, while the Gaming edition was still 149.99....

None(6770) in carrickmines, and his system said €150 and that there was no stock in the entire ROI. Must have been old stuff being cleared in galway. Would have been nice as I could Xfire it.

I'll have a look again today before work and get a model number - like I said, they seem to have different variants of each model even with the Asus Brand.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I bought one today on a whim, it was 79.99, it's an Asus 6770. If you want it ED E, I'd be happy to sell it to you for the same price, if not, I'll throw it into my second machine!

Here it is as listed on their site.

€80 aint bad at all, I might just pick one up if I see one in the local.

That's a 6670, priced at 59.99 in my store (got mine for 49.99), the 6770 is a much faster card and that's the one that's 79.99 in store.

Rome: Total War is €1 on Steam.

Has to be one of the greatest (I personally think it is the greatest) strategy games of all time, and is now just €1! If you haven't played it I thoroughly recommend you check it out, don't let the fact that it was released in 2004 put you off.

If anyone here does buy it, make sure to try out some mods. They really make to game come to life. I'd recommend Roma Surrectum II for a historically accurate game on a massive scale (the campaign map is massive) or SPQR: Total War if you want to be destroyed by the AI :).

By the way, this actually includes the Barbarian Invasion expansion pack, so it's doubly awesome!

It has a metascore of 92, what more do you want?!?

EVGA is having a sale on in their store at the moment. stock comes and goes though. also not sure of shipping price cause I'm on my phone and its difficult to navigate.

    gtx580 backplate for €0.99 here

    also a gtx460 SC FTW for €100.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,179 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Shipping for just the backplate is €12. Not bad considering they're usually €15 (IIRC) on their own. Still not getting one, mind. :P
