    It looks cold for the first part of February with frosts and ice. There will be some wet weather too which brings the chance of snow but it’s a fine balance between whether we see rain or any of the white stuff, Alex Deakin explains.

    UK forecast for the next 5 days
    Headline:

    Mainly cold and dry. Wintry showers in north and west.
    This Evening and Tonight:

    Clear and cold this evening for many, some showers are likely in the south and west which may lead to ice forming. Winds strengthen overnight, especially in the west as a squally band of rain, hail, sleet and snow arrives.
    Tuesday:

    A squally band of rain and snow moves eastwards bringing very gusty winds for time. Wintry showers, lighter winds and sunny spells will follow but it will remain windy.
    Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

    Turning milder with strong winds and rain, preceded by some snow on Wednesday, then brighter and breezy with showers on Thursday. Showers and wind easing from the south on Friday.

    Headline: Rain clearing east with wintry showers following for the northwest.

    This Evening and Tonight:

    Rain and strong winds will clear away this evening, leaving a cold and breezy night. A few showers will affect western areas with gales and wintry showers continuing in Northwest Scotland. Ice patches will form here and in Northern Ireland.

    Thursday:

    Sunshine on Thursday will be interrupted by a few showers, mainly in the northwest, where they will often be wintry. It will feel cold everywhere in a brisk southwesterly breeze.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

    Mainly dry across southern and eastern areas with light winds and sunny spells but with a risk of overnight frost. Patchy rain may affect the north and west at times.

    UK Weather Forecast HD: Thursday Forecast 22/02/18 Turning progressively colder with a brisk easterly wind
    Headline: Turning very cold, especially into next week.

    This Evening and Tonight: It will be cold overnight, but most places will be dry with clear spells. This will lead to a widespread frost, as well as some patchy fog forming in places. It will be breezy in the far northwest of Scotland.

    Thursday: Mainly dry with sunny spells, after any fog patches have cleared. Feeling colder for most, especially in the southeast with a brisk wind. Less cold in the far northwest.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Turning progressively colder with a brisk easterly wind making it feel very cold. Mainly dry and bright, but a risk of snow showers in the east by Sunday. Widespread frost.
