Right girls I got this idea from the Hollywood moment thread,

What would be the film that you would sit down with your box of Kleenex too.

I will start the ball rolling....

    Beaches
    In America
    Steel Magnolias...

I cry watching Ugly Betty for God's sake! I don't really watch many films but a couple that I seen recently that made me cry were The Green Mile and Man on Fire. It's been a few years since I've seen it but I cried every time I watched Titanic, I've never seen Ghost or the Notebook.

rent The Notebook. Actually you can pick it up in Tesco for a tenner. But be prepared for snots and tears. Seriously. If you're anything like me and look disfigured after a bout of crying, be sure that you're not going anywhere that evening because you'll look ravaged after watching it.

i watched it with my mate over a bottle of wine. her hubby came in half way through and promptly scarpered. two wailing women hiccuping through their snots was just too much for him.

I dont tend to cry at movies unless I'm already upset about something.

Watched Love Actually last night and the bit where the guy goes to kiera knightly with his sign boards and tells her how much he loves her brought a lump to my throat. Very sweet scene!

    Also,
    Gorrillas in the Mist

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭TheB

E.T .... I start crying at the start because I know what happens at the end.. I don't watch it anymore.. it totally makes be depressed and ashamed to be human.. what they do to that lil alien... Oh god I'm starting with the sighing already..

The Green Mile.. refuse to watch it now.. I get too upset.

Tbh it's not so much the film.. it's certain parts to films.. take Titanic. Wasn't particularly upset about Jack sliding off into the deep..was more angry at that snivelling cow not making more of an effort to let him up on the board thing.. there was plenty of room!
I was more upset by the Orchestra playing to the end knowing they'll die and the old couple preparing by lying together in bed.. that nearly killed me..

And now I am stopping typing about all these sad things..

    Bx

I forgot about The Champ, I watched that when I was younger with my mother and it nearly killed me not to cry (I can't cry in front of my parents, I have to run away when I feel the lump starting in my throat). I heard The Notebook was really sad, that's why I never watched it.

Another film that I bawled at was Song for a Raggy Boy. Myself and my friend still laugh at the state we got ourselves into watching it, we couldn't leave our seats in the cinema for around ten minutes after the lights came on.

consider sound proofing the room so that the neighbours don't think you're being battered at the sound of all your weeping and wailing.

let us know what you think!

i dont really get how the notebook makes every one cry..and i cry at nearly every film!but then again iv never seen it from start to finish completely...

whoever said the Life of David Gale was spot on

    but even moreso-Tuesdays with Morrie(sp?)
watched it school and had to leave the room half way through i got so upset.probably because it reminded me of my grandma and she was dying at the time :(

I thought that film was lame. I was very let down by it after all teh rave reviews I heard. I was just depressed at how sad old age is.... :(

Now, if you want a REAL love story that will have you in bits, you have to watch "A Walk To Remember". It's by the same author as "The Notebook". Mandy Moore and Shane West are in it. It's hard to get your hands on but a really quality, beautiful, heart wrenching film. Love love love it!

"Love Actually" makes me cry too, at the sweetness. :)

And another tear jerker, (that even had my boyf crying) is "The Green Mile" :(

Oh! Also, that scene at the end of "In America", where the little girl tells her Dad, "Say Goodbye to Frankie...."

Pay it Forward - every time I hear the song 'calling all angels' I cry
The Champ - still cry each time
A Mighty Heart - I have on good authority is a major weepie (saving it until himself is on evenings)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Dear god there's some crap films being mentioned here... Can't believe anyone would cry at half of them. Not that I'm trying to be macho here or anything, I do sob while watching a film on occassion, but there are films out there that are far worthier of my tears. Check out some of these films instead of the rubbish that's being mentioned:

    The Elephant Man
    Empire Of The Sun
    Brotherhood
    Grave Of The Fireflies

Watch some of those. You might top yourself in a fit of sheer and utter despair. :D

Oh, and Leon has me a bit weepy at times too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Jules

That could be it they don't ring any bells, have seen empire of the sun and elephant man. Both made me cry.

But might just go and see if i can get my hands on the other two!

Well, Brotherhood and Grave of the Fireflies are Korean and Japanese films respectively, so they're not as well known. But I'd say Brotherhood is probably the film that jerks the most tears from me by the end, it's incredible, especially when you compare it to other war films of late.

I howled at The Green Mile & Shawshanks Redemption - ET made me sob hardest tho....:o

Brilliant film... If everyone was forced to watch this we might have fewer wars in this world.
