My wife wants a nintendo DS with some brain training games for christmas. i don't know anything about them. can anyone point me in the right direction as to where the best place is to get one at a good price? perhaps bundle deals with brain training included?

i popped into Virgin and Game in Liffey Valley today. They are all out of them at the moment. Game say that they will be in next week.

any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!!

i think virgin do a deal where you get the ds lite + any chart game for €175 i think it is or around that, i'm sure brain training is in the charts

what is a ds lite? different to a standard ds?

thanking all in advance for your help on this important matter!

The DS Lite is a newer model of the original DS (and its the only one that can be bought in the shops), so its not an issue for you.

My advice? Grab one ASAP - I think they're going to be in shorter supply the closer we get to Christmas.

If you can convince her to wait, I'd get her a DS Lite from Asia -- try Play-Asia.com.
Just remember that it needs a Universal/European charger.

Oh, and the reason I suggest an Asian model is because they have nicer, exclusive colours ;)

looking for a DS for the girlfriend - anyone seen any for sale in dublin city centre? the places I've tried have been saying they are arriving regularly, but I'm getting pretty fed up looking....

Gamestop (in Wexford) had them this morning, so it might be worth trying your local brach. If one got delivery, they all may have

Anyone ordered one off Play-Asia.com? The US ones will work here with an adapter right?

Man, the DS is selling as fast as the Wii was. I was looking for the DS all night. No one has it - smyths, argos, pcworld. Does anyone know if any retailers still have them? :(

yeah i'm thinking of getting one there, but the customs will be ridiculous, 30% extra at least.

Damn! Is it free shipping though? Because nowhere in Ireland has them until at least the 14th I think. And theres great bundles on Play-Asia. I'm getting a Metallic Rose one with Nintendogs. That color isnt even here yet.

i need to come to inform that was walking around Henry St. today, there was a sign of 'NINTENDO DS OUT OF STOCK' in front of HMV....even HMV is running out of DS...

    good luck mate!

I'm seeing all the DS searching going on and I feel your pain. I'm heading home from the US next Friday 21st. I may be willing to bring a few back with me (I'm assuming it wouldn't be a prob from a customs p.o.v. as I live here). It's more out of helping a few boardsies out than out of me looking to make a quick buck - I'm especially sympathetic to fathers looking for pink ones for their daughters (ah bless)!

So if your maybe interested in meeting me somewhere between the $ and the yo-yo price (everyone's a winner) and can pick-up in Dublin (15) PM me and I'll certainly consider it if there's interest.

They were selling DS Lites in both Game and Gamestop in Limerick today. There were queues in Game, but plenty of boxes (and no queues for them) in the Crescent...

Don't you need an adapter to use the US version over here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Conor108

Yes you do. Well I bought one on Play Asia. Got
    • The Nintendogs Mettalic Rose DS lite bundle
    • An adapter
    • The Sims:Castaway DS

Total was just short of 200 euro. Now I await the customs with dread. Hopefully it wall fall out of the airplane onto a strategically placed styrofoam bouncy castle in my garden. Thus avoiding customs:D

I've been on the lookout for a DS lite for a while but I don't have the time to queue for hours to get one or any of that lark. The thing is that we're just victims of an arbitrary date. I'm sure my recipient will be equally happy to receive it after the 25th when there won't be another soul looking for one.

looking for one anywhere in leinster. Anyone see a ds for sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭Patrickof

Imported 2 Ds from US gamestop.

Value was about 400 including 5 games, customs came to €70 and €30 as it was two shipments. The only bad bit was that one of the packages was only a single game worth $40 and it was hit for €30 customs (which includes UPS admin charge). The other package had both DS's and 4 games and total cost was €70 for import. I assume the UPS charge was about €10-20 on each package.

Still worked out cheaper, the DS's are about €80 each excl above charge and shipping.

I just checked with smyths in carrickmines, they had a sign saying that the ds was in tommorrow at 9am. Problem is that they recommended queueing up at 5-6am. That time couldnt be right, could it?
