funny you should mention that, ive just been looking at NTL broadband, (thats UPC isnt it?)

Does anyone have this? is it any use? i noticed they have a 20mb package so im thinkin of converting.,:)

I have the 20mb package as well from UPC.

When it works : Wow..it's amazing. I've downloaded 16 torrents at once and played WoW with no issues. They are also fighting any attempts to force them to monitor their users and block certain websites (piratebay etc), unlike Eircom.

The bad news : It disconnects on occasion and you have to wait 10-30 secs for it to reconnect. There are outages every few weeks that sometimes last a few hours. Their 'technical' helpdesk isn't actually a tech helpdesk. They are receptionists who 'filter' out calls before transferring you to the real tech team who then asks you the same questions all over again. They insist on sending engineers out to your house for every issue (time off work to meet them, assuming they turn up on the right day), and they blame everything on your router.

Great speeds, but not 100% reliable and horrendous support.

When I was a young lad, we had FAR more imaginative ways to describe our teachers and principal than that.

And that wasn't too long ago.

Well, I was being polite to other users. We have some really great names for the head and his vice. Weed killer and rugby pitches mix well when the right message is used :p

My favourite has to be the new sachets of powdered Viagra that you stir into your cup of tea - it stops your biscuits going soggy when you dip them in.....:D

I very nearly (and stupidly) blew the best part of 700 quid on the N97 last week,

thank god i didnt fall for that pumped up N95 with a touch screen, look whats coming. :)

It took nokia an age to cop on but they've finally made something that doesnt run on that symbian cr@p. this is the same OS they have on the Palm thingybob and its supposed to be pretty decent. Theres also a beefed up processor in there with the same specs as the new iphone 3g's one. I think its gonna be a tight decision between this and the house brick iphone, :)

next month moggy, looks very interesting too, it has a panoramic desk top so it kinda flips around like that linux screen thingy. its able to run loads of applications at once too and you can view them all and see whats running, unlike the old symbian OS, the browser is a proper firefox one aswell.,:)

That might just very well make me go back to Nokia after being a loyal SE consumer for the past 4-5 years. (looks around at airsoft collection to see what can be sold, I'm all out of non essential organs).

o2 Broadband. You can even try it for a month free :)

    Mobile broadband is shiiiooteee!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

When i was using o2 broadband, it was faster and more reliable than my Eircom connection at the time. I wouldn't knock mobile broadband, its decent enough for browsing but not so much for gaming, tried xbox live on it for the laugh.

    Eircom

    That's why it seemed better.
