    Oh. My. Me.

That's unreal. As soon as someone opens an indoor airsoft site with smooth floors, I'm getting a Segway and that loadout.

    You don't own a segway???

Pfft some engineer you are :D

When you get to play with things that burn over 2000 gallons of fuel in a few minutes for "testing", quiet Segways tend to lose their appeal.

A sizeable proportion of my job is classified. Not joking, actually classified. Big red stamps on pages and all that malarky. What I can tell you though, is that planes are not safe.

is that planes are not safe.

    Say it aint so!!??

Isnt it cheaper for an airline company to pay....not sure of the phraseing..."death money" (?) to the familys of passengers killed in crashes as oposed to paying ongoing medical bills to someone injured very badly in a crash? Hence, plane crashes, they dont want you to live....or so i hear.

Haha, the expression on your face earlier when I told you about the time that engine sheared it's bolts and overtook it's parent plane was priceless! I'd hate to see if I told you some of the bad stories that don't actually end well. Like the three pieces of masking tape that brought down an Airbus.

Oh and Arcto is right. It's very true. Airline companies have to pay for their mistakes according to legislation. That includes paying medical costs of the victims of "incidents". People who get killed outright are a lot less financially burdening on the company than those who need constant care so there's a kind of morbid economics of death vs life going on there.

Naked dex....i hope your not leaving masking tape over the static ports on purpose :D

I don't only work on Lufthansa aircraft you know? Besides, this is universal across the aviation sector worldwide. I've worked in several repair/maintenance/overhaul facilities before my current place and it's always the same.

I didn't know Ryanair had started fitting wongs. It's probably a teething issue since wongs are so new in aviation. It's actually very hard to get a wong right. The right wong is easy enough but the left wong is never right and the right wong is hard to get right for left wong systems. Though I heard they've modified some of the new left wongs so that two wongs make a right.

Whats funny is when you see Aerlingus pilots in heathrow who are obviously sleep deprived waiting to take off. If your not fit to drive a car while fatigued then a plane..

Yup, nothing brings down 100 tons of aircraft like a single bolt, or a seagull for that matter. They're not perfectly safe. Nothing is. But they're a lot safer then getting behind the wheel of a car, or motorbike, or bicycle. Someone working in A/C maint or accident investigation is going to see a disproportionate amount of bad things, just as a surgeon is going to see a helluva lot of appendicitis cases.

The most dangerous factor in aviation is the human element. Train them well (ok, very well) and you'll get away with it most of the time.

Still, air travel is safe COMPARED to other forms of transport. Hell, even Ryanair has gotten safer lately after introducing no-fault go-arounds.

Wongs are dangerous. Use caution near them, or you'll receive a nasty blow to the forehead or nose, depending on how tall you are. The ones I fly (rarely enough these days) will nut you in the b*ll*cks if you're not careful.

There's actually pretty strict limits on how long a pilot can fly for within a 48 hour period. If they're sleep deprived it's their own fault and probably won't be let on the plane. Things like pilot competency are tightly regulated these days to minimise human error on aircraft incidents.

Well, this was like 4 or 5 years ago.

Rabbit, are you putting the url or the html code in the youtube brackets? I think you have to use the html (under the description).

you put the part after v= from the url in the youtube brackets.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

theres a "youtube" button in the "go advanced" option when your posting, then copy the code in the url thats after the = sign as sam said., :)

They've always been strict on limits, it's been the same for the last few decades.

Thanks...I forgot you only needed the end bit of the url.

    Not exactly a user-friendly boards.ie tool.

hello guys hows everyone doing, long time no post

just back today from puerto rico, cut my trip short, was ment to be there till august but was dieing to get home, plus i was broke.

It was an amazing trip and a great country. its the gay capital of europe now, and i found it so hard to get a job. There no legislation or anything over there, so basically i couldnt get a job cause i was a straight guy haha, i did work 4 nights until the manager realised i wasnt gay and let me go.

    so whats happenning any news?

saw someone moaning bout ryanair above, im never travelling with them again.

they wanted to charge us 400 euro for bags when we departed from dublin, 18 euro for every kilo over and they have a 15kg limit.

and on a 2 1/2 flight, they have no toilet facilities, a joke.

was a great trip though loved every bit, didnt even have the slightest of tiff with my misses... got to know all hte right people over there, and got a bit famous as the irish hussler, basically id play people at pool for beers, i rarely bought a drink and would have q's off people wanting to try me out hehe.

Was amazing, biggest dissapointment was i finally found an airsoft shop, and you could haggle with him, and i had got him down to 150 euro for two kjw m9 berettas with a double holstered shoulder strap, unfortuantly when i went to atm i had no money.

So any news, here theres a few new sites opened up, if anyone wants to fill me in by all means :)
