So i was on the train today (Saturday 3rd november @ 5:45) and we got to broombridge at about 6, i was sanding accross from an asian man who was listening to his ipod when two pieces of youth scum walked into the carraige, they couldnt have been more than 16 , one was blonde, irish, short and had a black eye, the other was taller, asian / mixed race and was wearing a navy hoodie, when the train doors opened at broombridge the scum raced out of the train, the taller of the two snatching this mans ipod from his hand. The train stopped while a few people onboard tried to assist the man as he ran down the platform in persuit of the scum,

this is horrible, anyone else see it ?

Its been a while since i was at Broombridge, but do the cctv camera's work there at all?

    Broombridge should be shut!
In a few years the area will be built up with apartments and maybe then it'll be worth opening.
But right now it's a disaster zone. Some people in work come in from Maynooth and when schools are on summer holidays the trains get stoned.
Ok, shutting the station won't solve this but it's a first step.

When I got my first ipod I was reading about New York subway stations have signs telling you to never carry your ipod in your hand.
At least if you put it in your zip pocket and maybe an inside jacket pocket it can't be easily snatched.
Of course if they want it badly the scum will take it but it makes it harder for opportunistic teenagers.

Lol, there is no CCTV there.
There was a ticket vending machine and that met a watery grave.
If it's not nailed down it ends up in the canal.

I'm not being over dramatic but I've had bad experiences there and I do pick up info over in Commuting & Transport.

There's some amount of dirt out there these days its unreal..I had my ipod robbed off me before walking down the road had it in my pocket and they grabbed the ear phones and the ipod went with it... I was so p*ssed off. luckily i had it insured, but still its just wrecks my head the way some of these little sh*ts act, not one ounce of respect in them.. They're a law onto themselves..

The man should have shown more street smarts and had a better hold on his belongings. Where was the iPod? Sitting on the table? In his pocket? In his underwear?

Always keep your valuables secure in close proximity to other people. Pure common sense. The most expensive thing I own now is a laptop and if I go travelling with that on a train it gets locked to my chair with my Kensington Cable: no little bastard is going anywhere with that.

Just as importantly try your best to minimise your profile: meaning dont advertise your fat wallet or your iPod, etc. iPOD headphones especially have become an icon - use aftersale earbuds instead if you think someone my be out to steal.

yes im one of those saps apparently!!
i had it in the pocket of jumper so the earphones were hanging out kind of underneath.. it wasn't as if i was in town or anything either i was walking up by my house in a quite place like so i was expectin some little sh*ts to come running up and nick it..it was insured so i got a new one so it was ok but that's not the point i just hate the way they think they can do these things, but i suppose its just the world we live in these days some people just make excuses for these people..
agree with the poster who said about the ipod earphones first thing i did when i got my ipod was buy a new pair of earphones..

Haha. Broombridge. What an absolute kip.

I'd say the only real purpose for that station is for people who get onto the Docklands train accidentally.

this thread has really portrayed how thick people are.

    Broombridge this - town that

get a grip you fools - thieves are eveywhere and just because 'friends are coming in from Maynooth' or 'you were walking around your own area', does that not highlight how idiotic it is to think of 'places' breathing thieves, thugs etc???

With some level of cop-on and a bit of awareness these incidents could become less common. in a few years the little girls who only stay in certain areas might have learnt how common thieving is everywhere.

Cabra has a hell of a lot of decent people in it, so why should they be bypassed??

Oh and Fergal and Desmond from Maynooth and that might have a long walk to work if they happen to work in the Dublin Industrial.

    I wouldn't worry about it.
All those people in glass houses will get wet if it rains tonight.

I don't know if you've ever been there, but Maynooth is no paradise either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Jay D

I know Maynooth well and my point was that some people seem to like the sound of themselves more so than being realistic.

This type of stuff goes on everywhere.

Because Broombridge is the biggest joke of a station going. Two or three people getting on or off at the station on practically every train. It's hardly a real money spinner for Iarnrod Eireann either, considering the number of times windows have been put through at the station (I've seen it twice and up until four weeks ago I didn't even pass through Broombridge regularly).

Who cares if Cabra has decent people in it, that station is a poxy eye-sore and serves sweet flip all purpose. Mulhuddart has some decent people in it, they don't have a train line.

    Dunboyne...

Obviously you've not been there of late but iirc there is one on a huge pole on the westbound side.

I used that station for ages, and never once had a problem. And as for it to shut down, well I'm from Glasnevin and its nearer than Drumcondra to me so it does the trick, and about broombridge, maybe it ain't the nicest of places but to all you moaners......it has a station and you don't :P :P :P ;)

I hate passing through that train station. I always think just hurry the feck up and get out of here. Like someone said literally 3 people ever get on or off there, I don't know why the train bothers stopping there.

I drove past Killiney station a while back, which is supposed to be one of the more "Select" areas of Dublin.

Every car parked alng the road, about 12 cars, had their side windows put through.

Scum get everywhere, there only answer is rather than the Gardai, we need some sort of scum catcher. A bit like a rat catcher but with bigger nets and more arsenic.

I've seen all manner of **** goin on at that station.
I'm from Maynooth and I have passed that station i'd say 5 days a week for the past 2 years.I've witnessed many wild things out there like a bit of thievery, dashing of GBH with a sprinkle of junkie wars thrown into the mix. The reality being that the station is ruined!! even the stuff that is nailed down is burnt and scorched,I'm sure the scum are experimenting with different combinations of accelerants in the hope of melting this metal shelters too. I witnessed a similar incident years ago...the only difference bein that the guy was wise to what was about to happen...held onto his iPod and booted the guy in the stomach and he ran off like a scalded cat.

Aso for theomments about Maynooth...I agree whole heartedly. Its not a paradise. Getting worse in fact. 3 people stabbed in the one night last week or the week before. If only there was a way of controlling the breeding of this scum!!?? Any ideas??

Many of those factores closed down due to traffic tbh and 3 developers have bought them up and let them go to rack and ruin so that when they finally apply to develope the site the locals will let them do what they want rather then leave it as is.
Currently the developers are trying to push for between 6 to 8 stories apparment block opposite houses and it is being fought as it will block what remains of the light.

The developers and Dublin City Corporations should secure those premises and the land along the line and canal and stop such scum getting acess.

Jayzus, wouldn't fancy wandering into Killiney anytime now, sounds like too much scum there with too much time to do 12 cars!

Killiney must be the biggest suburb of Dublin. It covers everything from Shankill to Cabinteely (But only the posh houses).:D

    Getting worse?

12 years ago I was walking down the main street and three guys stopped me.
They asked me where I was from. I told them and they then proceeded to kick the crap out of me.

Had my friends not looked back and seen what was happening, the beating would have been much worse.

IMO Broombridge station is a kip, it is down in a dip and it is a hot spot for anti social behaviour, IMO anywhere where it is dark and hidden you will find scumbags, the station should be visible from the road with lights and security people
there was a much better station further up between the factories, Liffey junction, you can still see the ruins of it. For some reason they closed it and blocked off the other track theat went on down through phibsboro.
Most of the buildings in that part of cabra are in bits, I think they should let the apartments go ahead as at least there would be people there who would ring the cops. It has some level of potential, its only 2 stops from town.
I think that when they reopen the harcourt line that liffey junction might come back into being and the stop at the bridge will go.

BTW fact for the day the mathematician William Rowan Hamilton back in 1843discovered quaternions revolutionising our understanding of algebra. He wrote the first few bits of equations on broombridge, its taken a dive with the stuff they have written on it now

Anyway a few months ago I saw two lads robbing a motorbike in daylight, they just ran off with it up a lane, bad and all as these crimes are, at least nobody is hurt in the process.

I assume you mean Broadstone? ;) That assumes the RPA don't get their mits on it and turn it into a Luas line.

I travel from Drumcondra to Clonsilla once every couple of weeks and haven't encountered any problems but I certainly don't like the look of the place.

There's a running battle going on with the local youth scum old greenie's (not being stereotypical) and a group of Lithuanian's (scum think they're Polish though ) Scum were throwing bangers at people at the carnie down by the harbour and got into a row with the Lithuanian's. According to the Liffey Champion, one Lithuanian had his throat slit with a broken bottle.

You can find trouble in Maynooth, but I've never been randomly attacked on any night out. And I live and drink there...
