Aww thanks. She really is the best dog ever. She's five now but still acts like a puppy. She lives down home on my parents' farm so has plenty of room to run, swim and herd ducks!

Well I've been doing a bit of work on my tank and I feel the need to show it off a bit :p !

I've added another 2kg of live rock, rearranged the rocks, added 3 juvenile Neon Damselfish (Pomacentrus alleni) and replaced the 2 Fluval 2plus internal filters with a new Fluval 205 external unit. I'm chuffed with it ATM!

The fire dartfish, azure damsel and blue cleaner wrasse are still in there with 2 hermits and a snail.

rory123 can i ask what is the cost to setup a tank like this,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 601 ✭✭✭Rory123

    Hi mossie,
You won't see much change out of about €400 for initial setup and but then you have to buy fish and replace them, and replace them again, and again until you finally get the hang of things, by this time you may have spent a couple of hundred euros on fish. If you upgrade your filters etc that's can be another €150. If I had to put a number on my setup since I converted to marine in October it would prob be around €700 or 800 (frightening!)... and that's just for a 70L tank! But it is my passion.

    For initial setup...
Tank with heater, mickey mouse filter included and light- around 150
    Special marine bulb- around €20
    Airpump and accessories- around €45
Live rock (minimum 7-8lbs at €10 per lb)- around €80
    Marine B-bac- €17
    Marine health treatment- €36
    Sea salt- €30
    Silica sand- around €20
Food (start with frozen brineshrimp)- €5
    Other accessories

All of the above are absolutely necessary

Then after a few days theres your fish and gradually inverts and soft corals etc.

    Have you had fish before?

PS A protein skimmer isn't really needed in a small setup like mine if you do decent water changes every 2 weeks and keep an eye on your water parameters. I buy my water for changes from my fish shop , which cuts out a lot of messing and it's reverse osmosis water so it is very pure.

It's lovely to see everyones pets!

We adopted Westley from Meath pound at the end of november. They said he's a terrier cross but we think there's definitely some sheepdog in him. He's a lovely smart dog, quiet but likes to go crazy now and again. The pound said he was about two, we think he's a bit younger as he chews a lot.

He's still being trained and settling in but he's great and has brought so much fun to us. He's afraid of cars and of being locked up in the dog house (he won't even go in) but we're working on that. Poor guy, it makes me very sad that someone could be nasty to him as he's such a lovely dog. But he has a loving new home now where he's safe.

Here he is looking happy eating a treat at christmas time.
