Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    WTF?

It's the bleeding twenty-fifth of October.

I was just watching TV3, the football was on, then some breast implant thing was on while I continued browsing.

I heard that damned song. Jesus. Too early. Way too early.

What's even worse are people who write Xmas
    I'm looking at you OP!

I deal with a lot of Americans in my job and they always say "Happy Holidays" as they are terrified of offending people of other religions. It's stupid I tell ya-PC culture going too far

I drove through Craughwell, Co. Galway last weekend and saw a big tall Santa (fibreglass or something, not the real Santa ;)) on the footpath at the side of the road!

Bah! Every year we have this discussion: Let's just say: google it. It's valid. We could each argue whether it's more or less valid (I'd be right, of course. Ahem.) but it's valid and not simply being PC.

Ah don't go on with that the man has a point, Its the bloody 25th of October! Those songs are grating by January anyway so I don't see why they start them early.

You can google lots of things and get results....instances where other people have also mis-spelled it, doesn't mean it's right.

It's Christmas people, named after Christ, not some freak called X!

Ah here would you stop. It's ridiculous starting it so early. Takes all the fun out of it. By the time the day actually comes you're fed up with it.

We got some trick or treat'n' little scumbags tonight.

Nikki Hayes (who is a tool but that's just a personal opinion) played that East 17 song that isn't exactly about Christmas but is on every Christmas album ever the other day. Ya know, 'baby if you've got to go away....' Anyway, people got a small bit angry.
Oh, and Marks and Spencer will start with the Christmas music soon enough, they phase it in gradually. Was serving a customer this time last year when I heard a Christmas song in the background. Took me about 10 minutes to recover; then had a nice old woman rant with the customer about it being too early.

In short, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the freaking way to holidays and turkey and presents and family fights.....

Oh and check out this for some festive food ideas!!

Now, Xavi, wait til you see Santy arriving to a shopping mall in Australia. In his big red furry suit, in forty degree heat.

A big fat bearded man, in a furry suit, in forty degree heat.

I felt sorry for the ones I saw in Sydney, I really did.

    In anyway lads.

    My favourite Xmas song is Paul McCartney's "Simp-lee hav-ing a won-der-ful Christ-mas time"

Oh, and Bowie and Bing as posted by Terry. Quality song.

But please. Not in freaking October.

What I hate the most is the "Musak" versions played in department stores.

Can we have a santy smiley?

Every year since I was 5, Christmas ads have started in the middle of October, and every time, people start moaning that they start earlier every year.

    Believe me. They haven't changed.

I love that song! Almost as great as Sinatra's version of Jingle Bells. (I love those J-I-N-G-L-E Bells!!)

Is there some law that says I have to like every Xmas song?

    Jaysis.

Other favourites of mine include "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues, and the one from Home Alone, Oh Holy Night? Is that what it's called?

When we sang Fairytale of New York in school years ago it was censored!! We weren't allowed to day 'you cheap lousy ****!' I think we had to say 'you're cheap and you're haggard!'

Oh Holy Night is great too, especially the South Park version! :p

Ive noticed in recent weeks on tv certain products being advertised that feature christmas songs. The dimplex fire (Let it snow) and that baby sleeping formula (Silent Night) are among them. These ads dont feature any xmas imagery or mention xmas, and the songs often are only general ones assocaited with xmas. But i hate the way its like some kind of loophole around a christmas ad. You know that once halloween is over on wednesday, the xmas crap on tv and radio goes into full swing. Jesus, surely all the stores know that xmas will be a huge money spinner for them, so why do they have to advertise it so early every year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

I think that once the ads for the Christmas air freshener thingys come on the Christmas advertising really starts. They are always the first. Closely followed by hampers and roses scratch cards. (I got one for my birthday last week!! But I wont complain about how early it is because I won roses, I always do.)

personally I think it's a bit early for christmas crap
