Mi Wadi + Water

    Hi everyone

Not sure if this is the right forum for this... if it's not, please move

I find water unbearable to drink unless it's ice cold, so I'm wondering - adding Mi Wadi would make it easier to drink, but would this have bad benefits that may make drinking water for the good benefits bad

Thanks in advance for the help!
    Tim

I doubt it would make to much of a different just don't add to much Mi Wadi.

IMO if it helps you drink water then go for it, just don't go overboard on it and you should be grand.

I don't like water either and the only way I seem to be able to drink water is to add robinsons/mi wadi. Best to stick to the Robinsons as it has a no added sugar one. If it wasn't for these I just wouldn't drink any water!!

This question always makes me chuckle - in fact I think I started a thread along the same lines a couple of years ago.

Water, by its very nature, has no taste and no smell. How can you not like the taste of something that doesn't have one? One day I told myself to stop being such a whingy twat and start drinking plain room-temperature water, and guess what - it's great

If you're going to drink cordials just be aware of the high sugar content in a lot of them, and sweeteners/ flavourings/ perservatives/ colourings too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,396 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

OP, it won't negate the positive effects of getting your daily water requirement in but you will have to factor in the extra calories you're consuming to the rest of your diet plan. Drinking water on it's own would be better but if you're seriously that fussy a drinker, adding a (small) bit of a no-sugar added/reduced sugar cordial isn't going to detract from the benefits of the water.

As g'em says, water has no taste. A healthier option you might like to consider would be dropping a slice or two of lemon and/or lime into your glass to give it a bit of flavour.

Purified or distilled water will have no taste. Instead of saying it tastes bad you could say tasteless water is not palatable, or has a bad sensation.

But tap water will have salts/minerals in it which do give a better taste, and it can smell of chlorine. I see distilled water sold in health stores now and you can buy mini distillers to make your own.

I put tiny dashes of blackcurrant in my water sometimes, I can drink 3 pints like that, whereas with plain water I would have to force down the last 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 254 ✭✭Baraboo

Maybe try one of the water filter jugs to get chlorine and impurities out of the water. Some tap water tastes really bad. Keep the filter jug in the fridge and you have it both ways - Nice healthy water but chilled as well.

It is kinda funny - actually had this conversation with friend last week!! I can drink mineral water but just not the same amounts of my flavoured water! I can drink 3 times as much water if I put a cordial in it than if its just plain! I think putting cordial is the lesser of two evils! Maybe in a couple of years I will get an appreciation for water but just not yet!!! I just don't find drinking it a pleasent experience :)

It's certainly better than drinking coke all day :p I know what you mean though, but I'd definitely recommend trying to get used to plain water. Now, when I'm thirsty, there's nothing that quenches my thirst better than water and cordials etc just taste sickly sweet and quite bleurgh. I try and drink 1L before I leave the house, 2L when I'm at work, and 1-2L while I'm working out - I have a sports' top water bottle with me everywhere I go.

And I started to see the benefits really fast too - my energy improved, and my skin cleared up. Drinking more water and taking fish oils were some of the best changes I ever made to my diet!

Sometimes if i am really craving something fizzy, i stick a few slices of lemon into some cold fizzy water, its yum and well i am sure that the slice of lemon adds a few cals i doubt its really that much.
I do like drinking water but sometimes i want a change or its just not doing it for me, i stick slices of orange or lemon into just plain watrer rather than cordial as i find a lot of them leave a scuzzy aftertaste!!!

You can always make your own cordials too, most are just fruit juice, citric acid & flavourings. You can get bags of citric acid in asian stores, used for sweet & sour dishes.

In winter I drink pints of hot water with lemon & honey.

You can get used to it, I presume the bladder stretches or something. I can hold huge amounts of liquids, before having to go- handy in packed pubs!

dragging up an old thread here...

anyone know how bad mi-wadi no added sugar would be if cosumed a good bit?

i use it as mixer for vodka andwould drink a fair bit. 1 of the nights at the weekend i had half a litre of vodka so it required topping up on mi-wadi a good bit maybe 6 times as id have big measure of vodka. i mix it with water and add a good bit of ice aswel. id guess its the high sugar content? i checked the label and theres nothing bad on there. was drinking same drink again next night but not as much

You're worrying about whether Mi-Wadi is bad for you when you're drinking half a litre of vodka on a night out?

Any think bad in sugar free mi wadi (probably little tbh) is negligble next to half a liter of vodka.

firstly, i never said a night out..

secondly, why bother post if your not going to anwer the question

thirdy, i saw your posts on a a thread about alcohol and dont really care what you would think to someone drinking alot.

Depends on what a good bit of it is.

The no added sugar has a lot less than the regular mi wadi, but if you are drinking loads of it you are still getting a load of sugar

Regardless of having mi-wadi with no added suger its still going to have a negative affect,

During December last year I drank perhaps 1-2 litres of water with only a little mi-wadi mixed in, ended up with hives after week 2. Never had this reaction to anything else I've ever drank.

So yes its fine in small amounts but using it to replace just water isn't a good idea, atleast in my experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,773 ✭✭✭madma

    cheers for the replies

yeah i wouldnt say its loads but the most id say is close to half a bottle of the blackcurrant. i try to use as little as possible and have water and ice thrown in with the vodka too

this is only when staying in drinking at the weekends, normally doesnt be much but sometimes if starting early you can through a fair bit..

as for water in general id drink around 5 pints a day sometimes a bit more and i avoud soft drinks and maybe have lucosade or 2 at the weekend.

i'll stick with the wi-wadi as mixer as its lovely stuff :)

ps: there was no point in my listing the amount of alcohol consumed as the question was about the amount of mi-wadi being cosumed, and there will always be lurkers like chocolate chip to shoot you down on whats your own business

There was a point. You're asking if the mi-wadi is bad for you while listing you were having half a litre of vodka. If you didn't want someone to comment on the excessive amount of alcohol you were consuming then you shouldn't have mentioned the vodka in the first place - you should have just asked about mi-wadi.

The point is your priorities are arseways. If you are concerned about your health then instead of pondering the negligible effects of mi-wadi on your health consider how bad all the alcohol is on your health. You asked for advice and you got it - you didn't like what someone had to say despite what they said making perfect sense. It's like worrying about too much sun giving you skin cancer while having a lacerated artery. Prioritise.

my priorites are arseways, ha classic.

i mentioned that drinking half a litre was alot and was at the very most that would be drank, infact i normally wouldnt as much. im aware of the dangers of alcohol and i dont drink much often and give it up every now and then, id be a weekend drinker like a lot of people. drinking half a litre or near that amount, v's 8-10 pints of beer in a night, which would you say is worse if looking to drop a bit of weight?? again the question was about the sugar level in a mixer drink NOT about alcohol..

Excellent post, Jive. Unfortunately, many people are in denial about their drinking and miss the sheer abnormal nature of their excessive drinking. People like Madma are immune to advice, it seems.

I take it you mean the helpful replies being those which have advised you to curb your drinking and focus on the much worse health effects of a half a litre of vodka rather than a few mls of Mi-Wadi.

If you're looking to lose weight, you'll find it much easier if you give up alcohol rather than fruit cordials.

    Just before it's locked...

The no added sugar Robinson's stuff contains about 0.6g sugar for a standard mix of one part concentrate to four parts of water. There is no RDA for sugar intake (as far as I know) but 0.6g isn't much. Some sites I've read suggest c. 40g sugar intake is normal for people with a healthy diet, so a cordial is about 1.5% of a rough target sugar intake.

Water on it's own is obviously better, but I drink one or two of those cordials as an almost guilt free treat. Nobody's diet is perfect and you've got to give yourself a break now and again or your diet will get very grim. That's my outlook anyway.

    Good luck achieving your goals.

i dont have a problem with drink at all, i know everyone must sound like an alcoholic to you. i binge drink from time to time and guess what..im not the only irish person to this either. i used to drink just beer and used to drink alot more than i used to so could do without the lectures.

You shouldn't mistake popularity for normality. Plenty of Irish people abuse drugs. Does that make it acceptable, or normal? No.

I, for one, have respect for my body and would never binge on alcohol. I find it incredible to see people like you asking for advice on a health forum and yet continuing to drink alcohol at an alarming rate despite the health effects.

are you irish? im guessing your not..

either 1 of 2 things. 1. you had a bad experince with drink and it was so bad it stopped you drinking, or 2. someone in your family is/was an alcoholic or maybe a death relating to it or something.

your reaction to people that drink alot in 1 night is a bit over the top.. wonder what you do on paddys day? so your saying anyone that drinks more than the recommended amount or binge drinks has no respect for themselves?

I find the notion of questioning my Irish nationality on the basis of my attitude to drink quite hilarious! I am Irish, born and bred.

Thanks for your rather laughable attempt at psychology but you are very far off.

What do I do on St.Patrick's Day? I enjoy the parade, spend time with friends and family and have a lovely day. I don't need to get mindlessly drunk to have fun.

You were lookin for advice on if mi-wadi with water is good or bad and you tell us about this half litre vodka and your binge drinkin....wtf? Differnet brands of concentrate have different calorie contents so kep an eye out.
For example robinsons lemon barley (which is yummy by the way) has about 8x the calories of the regular no added sugar lemon.

Sorry, but can everybody grow up. Most people binge drink on a night out. If you don't, good for you but don't jump on somebody's back for it.

Yea, it's not the best for you but so are a lot of the things we eat, drink or do. If your otherwise living healthy, and your drinking isn't negatively impacting on others lives, it's nobody's business but your own.

I feel sorry for people who lack basic social skills which compels them to drink excessively in order to interact with people. I also feel sorry for people who think Mi-Wadi is a bigger health hazard than half a litre of vodka. I pity people think that binge-drinking is the only social outlet where one can have fun.

In addition, I feel sorry for people who can't accept advice and label good advice as 'hilarious' because this advice is incompatible and inconvenient to what they believe is 'normal'.

so people who drink have no social skills and need drink to interact? I have many a time drive to events, birthdays etc and not had a drink and didn't miss it on the night. You have a major chip on your shoulder for people who like to get drunk.. Yeah maybe some are alcoholics but people like myself can handle it and don't have to justify doing something that's legal and found in most places in the country.
