I hate his constant "Our customers just love...<insert annoying thing>", like the glossy screens.
"Our customers just love the new glossy screens". Shut up.

"Our customers just love the over heating Macbooks"
"Our customers just love the fact that we charge them to replace a battery."
"Our customers just love the fact that we charge them to make a ringtone of an song they've already bought."
"Our customers just love the three machines they've bought before they find one which doesn't break."
"Our customers just love the discolouration on Macbooks"
"Our customers just love paying $300 dollar profit on every iPhone sold."
"Our customers just love out crappy after care service."
"Our customers just love paying £300+ for AppleCare so we fix the things we should have got right to begin with."

    etc etc.

He annoys me slightly at the best of times. My mind constantly turns back to that press talk he gave in the beginning of 06' with the $99 iPod leather cases and that ridiculously expensive iPod HiFi. He's a brilliant salesperson though.

Mind you, all the reviews of the iPod Hi-Fi that I've read kind of justify its price -- as a home stereo replacement, it's reckoned to be brilliant; for computing usage (i.e. less than 10' from them), apparently it's beaten by cheaper competition.
I would almost get one just for the look though ;)

I have 3 Macs, I'm not a windows user, where did windows come into this?
I'm just saying that, while Apple make great products, they have a history of being ****ty to their customers with products with loads of problems. Steve Jobs, to my knowledge, has made no public comment about any of this.

I was impressed by that open letter issued in the name of Mr Jobs discussing the rebate options for people who recently bought iPhones before the price drop. A nice apology was issued, cant see that happening in too much other companies. I have mixed feelings about Apple's Il Duce, in general though, I think they are positive feelings. Having said that, there are plenty of reasons why I like to hate Mr Gates but there are some things he does, like his charity work that its hard not to think good things about.

Is it true that, ( or was i dreaming) there is a marking on steve jobs arm that says -- made by apple in california ----

One thing you can credit mr gates with is that he was the reason everyone, EVERYONE, ( well more or less) in the world suddenly got a computer. When windows 95 came out it changed everything. Looking back on it now one wonders how did steve jobs trip up. Steve is a way better public speaker than Bill is.

    Jobs is the AntiChrist.

The man's got charisma, no doubt about that. He irks me though. He likes to mindphuck people and doesn't seem to like telling the outright truth. Seeing him speak to the masses at conventions is borderline scary.
Reality distortion field is a term coined by Bud Tribble at Apple Computer Inc. in 1981, to describe company co-founder Steve Jobs' charisma and its effects on the developers working on the Mac project.[1] Later the term has also been used to refer to perceptions of keynote (or Stevenote) observers and devoted users of Apple computers and products.[2]

In essence, RDF is the idea that Steve Jobs is able to convince people to believe almost anything with a mix of charm, charisma, exaggeration, and marketing. RDF is said to distort an audience's sense of proportion or scale. Small advances are applauded as breakthroughs. Interesting developments become turning points, or huge leaps forward. RDF focuses less on outright deception and more on warping the powers of judgment.

The Mac v PC debate is one of the past. Bill Gates effectively endorsed Apple when he invested 150 million in the company back in 1997. They are 2 entirely different visions for the computer world but for anyone who is quick to dismiss Apple and their products they should go and check out their history. Steve Jobs, Woz and Apple brought the GUI to us, they fathered the personal computer, the mouse, they re-invented the smart phone, gave us APPS, brought us the ipod which changed the music industry forever and beyond a shadow of a doubt they are the one of the most revolutionary, innovative technology companies we have ever seen. Sometimes they release flawed products but in general they offer pioneering design and beautiful pieces of kit. Much of this is down to the charisma and vision of Steve Jobs and in time his contribution to this world will be recognised alongside the greats. Unfortunately Microsoft haven't measured up with their innovation and their products and it is widely accepted that they don't innovate, they follow.

Triple H, I am not saying this to antagonise or 'rise' you, but you need to read up a little more on the facts! Windows 95 had a undoubtable huge impact, yes, but it was part of chain reaction with a lot of contributory factors. Apple sell hardware with their own proprietary software, Microsoft sell only software that runs on any PC but Microsoft don't 'build' the PCs you speak of. It is also widely accepted that Apple created the 'PC' market and that Microsoft later entered into with software that is commonly known to have been a rip off of Mac OS.
It is also worth noting that Apple, for a company that controls less than 10% of the PC market, is now worth nearly double the market value of Microsoft and is worth more than the combined value of Intel and Microsoft (the infamous Wintel).

Apple took the GUI idea from Rank Xerox, with their permission. Might have also got the mouse idea there too.

Yes, but Apple's focus is on goal-oriented usability. For instance, it takes at most three clicks to change most settings on a mac, you can't say that for Windows.

On a Mac, you decide what you want to do (write a doc, listen to music), click and do it. On windows, it's a more convoluted process.

Both companies might be guilty of initially appropriating other people's ides, but it's what they've done with the stuff they appropriated in the interim that counts. Jobs' emphasis on minimalism and usability made the Mac what it is today and a very nice environment in which to work.

    Well, I might as well fan the flames;

Steve Jobs is a jackass, hes a theif and a liar and bla bla bla.

Microsoft are evil. They're Big Brother, trying to steal all our data and sich.

And for the sheer hell of it; Linux is the best OS, and everyone knows it. Blows OSX and Windows away hands down.

    :P

I hate when people make that connection. Yes, at its very root OSX is Linux. Thats where it ends. OSX is Linux in the same what that humans are apes.

I suppose you hate evolution too.

I suppose you hate evolution too.

I'm just saying, as far as the tech goes, yes, OSX is built on Linux, but its been so radically changed and developed by Apple, that the end product is nothing like Linux.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 are built on the same base, but one is the fastest selling Windows OS, while the other is the most hated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,246 ✭✭✭conor.hogan.2

OSX is based upon (or at least shares a lot with it) free-bsd and is POSIX compliant, it is not based on Linux.

It's linux on steroids, with billions of dollars of r&d pumped into it but it's still linux no matter what the advertising says.

Another variant, the point still stands.

    Freebsd is not Linux.

The relationship isn't as simple as osx being a simple bettering of an older os anyway.

I know but there are more similarities than differences.

I know, but my point is, OSX are different as far as the end user is concerned.
I'm triple booting OSX, Windows 7, and Ubuntu. I cant install iWorks on Ubuntu, nor can I install Skype for Linux on OSX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,246 ✭✭✭conor.hogan.2

    It is not Linux.

FreeBsd is based on unix, and the older version of *BSD that FreeBsd is based on is older than Linux and it is this that NeXtStEp used and is still in osx.
