Are the expansions available to buy in the shop or are they downloadable only?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

Downloadable only until the Game of the Year edition comes out then they'll be bundled.

I have come across merchants outside megaton, but they did'nt have any guns,no have'nt made it to rivet city yet.

There are 4 types of merchant caravans and a different person that sells each.

    Armor: Crow
Weapons: Lucky Harith (wears a yellow jumpsuit)
    Meds/Chems: Doc Hoff
Junk: Crazy Wolfgang (usually sells stuff for custom weapons)

If you go to Cantebury Commons and talk with the Mayor there (bob something or other) you can invest in each of the merchants to get better stock (200 caps to upgrade first time, 500 caps to upgrade secodn time). I usually stock Lucky Harith when i get there and he usually sells good weapons and ammo afterwards

Right, so i'm playing through the game again, with the expansions installed. I havent really started the main quest yet (only up to Megaton) and i've been doing some exploring. I came across
Vault 112, where you later meet your dad asleep in the simulator thing.

Now i've read that you can accidently skip the main quest ahead by going to certain area's before your supposed to, and I quickly realised that this was that area after talking to the robot at the start, and left. Is this going to jump the main quest way ahead when i go back to it?

Well you are about a third way maybe into the main quest. To be honest, it's worth it to continue on for a little bit more because you will get trained in power armor. After you get trained in that just continue on off on your own as power armor helps greatly

You can pick up some nice power armor under Old Olney which you don't need training for

Of course there are all those pesky Deathclaws floating around there.

Which is why you should build a dart gun asap!

I love this game - it's one big circle of skills. You need this to do that to go there to get this to get that to go there. :pac:

Expansions are got through MS live, where you have to buy points and then spend the points on the expansion packs. Not sure how much they are but I have little doubt you would have MS points left over after ward. You can access 'live' through the main menu

In the States you can buy the add-ons seperately, but are probably region-locked

Just finished the main quest/storyline last night. I had just reached level 19 after about 40 hours of in game time, so kinda bummed not to have tried so many of the side quests. I'll probably play through it again, couple of questions though:

I played on medium difficulty, and I thought the first 6-7 levels were slightly tough going, in terms of strugging to have enough caps and ammo. After that though it got very easy, I had high stats for big guns/small guns/energy weapons, so that I was getting critical hits with the special Plasma Rifle you get
    in the Replicated Man Quest
which made firefights very easy, especially if you pick up a companion.
Anyone else find the early game tricky compared to later when you level up?

Also, I got the game on Steam on the PC, are the DLC's also available on Steam or just the Games for Windows nonsense?

I though the ending was epic fail, last few missions seemed to pass in an instant,
I had Fawkes as a companion, he's immune to radiation ffs, let him do it.
Still loved the game overall. The feeling of "Holy ****, look at this place!" after you walk out of Vault 101 into the sunshine was amazing.

I was finding it very tough at the start. I'm level 6 now and it is starting to get a bit easier.

The difficulty does kinda level out but the enemies you encounter get upgraded too. I did the Reilly's Rangers quest at level 16 and died once or twice if I got my tactics wrong as I came up against a few super mutant masters at once.

Overall though, as is the case with most RPGs you end up a total animal when you level up - and rightly so.

Anybody have problems loading Broken Steel? I downloaded it, and tried to play it in another profile, in which I had almost finished the game. The "Extra Content loaded" message comes up when it starts, but when I go through and finish the game, it just ends. No Broken Steel.

I've tried restarting the last mission again and playing through to the end but the same thing happens. There's absolutley nothing to be found online regarding it, so I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how to get it started?

That reminds me...great game, will have to start playing it again.

Are the add ons avalible form the PS store?

Yeah the toughest part I found was after you mostly get the Megaton quests completed and you can basically just continue with the main storyline quest or just pick a direction from Megaton and start walking.

It's definitely worth just wandering off across the wasteland though, great feeling not know what you are going to come across. I went west and
got to Fort Bannister and got utterly stomped by the enemies in there,
I was only level 5 at the time with weak weapons and stuff.

Daft question but you don't have Fallout installed a drive different to the drive you have your os installed on? Apparently Fallout doesn't like this configuration very much.

No, its the same hard drive. I downloaded it through an Xbox live profile, but was playing it in an offline profile which had the save in it. Its registering as loaded when you start Fallout, but the game just ends.

The first add on (Operation Anchorage) will be available on the PS Store in late June, so maybe that means next Thursday.

The next two (The Pitt, Broken Steel) will be available in 4-6 breaks after the first.

Unfortunately depending on how you end that quest you can be locked out again. I don't think there's any way to get back in after that im afraid.

Just wander around man. Talk to everyone. There's so much crammed in that you'd never see it all if you tried. I've played through 3 times now and still haven't seen half of what's out there I reckon.

I think I am going to wait for Broken Steel, start that just to extend the Level Cap, and then start Anchorage, the Pitt etc.

I bought the game for 24e. A little peeved about the prospect of paying 10e per expansion.

It could be worse, you could have bought Fallout 3 at release time for €60.

I think I will play Operation Anchorage for the new weapons. I doubt I will be near the level cap by the time it arrives.

True. I hit level 20 in my existing F3 file though.

I just wish they would release them all at once. It would be a shame not to get the EXP etc for the work you do in Anchorage.
