for everyone's sake, please start taking the bus

Do you ride a bike littlejukka? Well if you do you would understand what I am talking about. Car drivers ignorance mutiplies when you are on a bike. Ride like everyone is out to kill you.

On several occasions I have overtaken a car on the right who for some reason refuses to move out of the right hand lane because I deem it safer then overtaking on the left. Again this solely applies to idiot right-lane hoggers, and not normal observant drivers.

Darragh29: you keep saying that you've read the replies yet you don't seem to have digested what they said!

They ALL say that they would not flash someone who is actually overtaking in the overtaking lane. What they say is that they would - after waiting an appropriate time - flash someone who is sitting in the overtaking lane for no reason. Speed is irrelevant. Yet you keep repeating that the only people who flash other drivers do so when those drivers are overtaking and that all the other posters condone this attitude. Learn to read man!

Yeah, and what I'm saying is that I don't accept this argument. It's not that I haven't digested what is being said, it's that I don't accept it. I rarely meet people sauntering along at 100-110KPH in the overtaking lane, because most people know better. What I see regularly is saps driving up behind people who are overtaking a string of traffic to their left probably doing 100KPH, at 120KPH, and the sap flashing lights because he or she wants to be doing 150KPH and just wants to clear the overtaking lane of anyone who is not doing the same speed as him/her. This is what I'm talking about. You're wasting your time here ranting on about the odd person who flashes at the rare auld biddy out for her Sunday drive who doesn't even know she is in the overtaking lane! Personally I don't do this, I'm more patient and the idea of flashing at another driver in this situation doesn't sit very comfortably with me. I rarely see such a person on the road, in comparison, I very regularly see the type of person I have described above, trying to empty the overtaking lane of anyone who isn't happy to drive ahead of them at 150KPH and I don't accept that people on here who say they flash people out of their way are only flashing at old biddy in the Micra doing 90KPH in the overtaking lane, because for every one driver I see doing this, I see ten people driving agressively, tailgating people who are legitimately overtaking traffic to their left while sticking to the speed limit. This is what I see every day, and I don't accept what I'm reading from some people here, as distinct from not digesting or understanding it. Now if some people here don't like me saying that, and would prefer to lower the level of the discussion to abuse by making childish remarks about what I'm saying, that's just too bad, because it's indicative of the type of abusive behaviour I'm talking about with respect to agressive and impatient driving as far as I'm concerned.

I've heard of plenty of times where someone was stubbornly hogging the overtaking lane, only for the car trying to get past them from behind to switch on the sirens, pull them over and charge them with obstruction.

I don't think I'm breaking the law by continuing to do what I was doing and overtaking a string of traffic doing 100KPH to my left, just because some muppet behind me wants to be doing 150KPH and I'm in the way. What should I do??? Pull in on top of a car to my left??? Speed up and break the law??? Slow down and have the muppet rear end me??? Jump out the window???

It's kind of funny how you've heard of "plenty of times" when a cop has charged someone with obstruction in a situation such as this and I've never heard of anyone being charged for obstruction on this basis even once... Weird that...

Darragh - I wouldn't really like to be driving on your planet, but back here on Earth, it happens very rarely that anyone comes storming up the outside lane flashing people in front. But every day you get people dawdling in the outside lane.

Try getting out there on to the Irish roads before coming on here spouting rubbish.

(for the record, Monday to Friday I do 120km round trip everyday - mainly motorway)

You know, it's funny. I've NEVER been flashed in the overtaking lane whilst doing a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre. Not once. Yet it seems to happen to you the whole time. I reckon I've solved the "mystery of Darragh29". You wouldn't happen to be one of those drivers who continues to "overtake" a "line of cars" despite huge gaps (like, 30 sec) between these cars by any chance?

I drive 60k to work everyday, 90% of this is driving on a motorway and 60k home in the evening, six days a week. I don't see people dilly dallying in the overtaking lane very often, what I see much more regularly is people speeding excessively in the overtaking lane, and flashing lights at other drivers to get them out of the overtaking lane. That's my experience, if yours is different, I'm delighted for ya!

Conversely maybe you and a few others on here at the drivers who are under an illusion that they are actually within the speed limit when they are in fact 20k plus over the limit? let's just imagine for a moment that I was such a driver, which I certainly don't think I am as I only use the overtaking lane for overtaking, if I'm doing the maximum speed limit in the overtaking lane while I'm overtaking someone, you have no reason for me to move if you are behind me, unless it should happen that you are driving substantially faster than the speed limit, which would put you as much if not more in the wrong as someone hogging the overtaking lane doing 100KPH.

I'm not sure I'm qualified to reply to your (rather confusing) question - I've never flashed anyone who was overtaking another vehicle - even if they were doing 40k/h overtaking a tractor doing 30k/h. Now how about you answer my question? Do you hog the overtaking lane despite large gaps between vehicles in the left hand lane? It would explain a lot....

Think if you read my last post you'll get the answer. Unfortunately I can't put it up here in braille for ya. Gladly have more to be doing on a Friday evening than debating the subject with you any further.

I'm afraid your last post doesn't contain any such answer. Given that you refuse to answer, can we take that you do, in fact, hog the overtaking lane needlessly?

PS Do you really believe that you are right and that everone else here is wrong?
