A walk can be nice to think about things and put stuff back into perspective.

I crank on some really good music really loud and sit down and just listen for about a half hour or so. A good sound system helps.

For me, very loud music and a really nice sandwich is enough.

I normally listen to some good house music or something like the editors or something like that. Nice and loud also. As Gumby said. This is the best way to do it I find

(Headphones && ipod) + (couch || washing up || walk) = happy out

Heading out for a cycle is a great way to get the happy chemicals to work also.

Go for a drive, head to the gym, do some photoshopping, buy something on ebay..

isn't this what hobbies are for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭thelordofcheese

I play something dumb and shooty on my pc, Call of Duty 2 being the current one.

Honestly, after you've shot a couple of hundred nazis you'll start to feel better.

Failing that, music. Louder the better.

A nice long cycle by the coast.
Portmarnock is lovely this time of year

browse /b/ in 4chan and see just how much sadder some people are than me. :D

actually nah, i go for a stroll, listen to some grizzly bear, play some games, whatever, i dont have a set cure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Depends really what kind of blues I got. Queen (live wimbely album) usually gets me in a jolly mood, same goes for some classic Metallica. A good sound system makes the difference.

Good comedy shows too like Police Squad!, South Park, or That 70's Show.

And if I feel like killing something I slap on a good shoot 'em up.

Hmm, really my laptop is the source of all my blues cures, I'd be a depressing cúnt without it.

Hanging around a car licence test centre - and when people come out after doing their test ask them if they passed or failed.
    :D
(sometimes you can have a bet with yourself just by the look on their face).

Nothing like the feeling of knowing your better than somebody else.
If they failed you can say - enjoy the wait to do it again - holds hand up to forehead and makes an L shape

Playing Guitar over a nice bluesy song or backing track. So easy and fun.

When I get the blues, I turn to the greens. Bongs for preference.

I find alcohol and bed make the blues worse
excersise is good, i also find since taking up photography going out snapping something different with the camera helps .... sad music is good too (jeff buckley/ leonard cohen / bob dylan) -- and communicating with people is positive

    Oh forgot ---

    no woman no cry

30mins watching a documentary about people much less fortunate than yourself. that puts things into perspective

    a good ride. nuff said.

listening to your fave album very loud. as said before. brushes off the cobwebs

a fast drive. gets the adrenaline pumping

some 1:1 playtime with young kids preferably involving some conversation about things they dont fully understand. borrow them if you dont have them yourself. kids never cease to amaze me and make me feel happy.

In addition to a few pints, I'd have to agree with CSG (apart from the driving & the shopping ), plus good music, playing with my 2 boys, or going fishing.

Well that was actually the problem alright and I started thinking about that when I was reading through the posts. I need to get my priorities right again.

    Eat......

Sometimes curl up on the couch with a blanket, food and watch a good movie or program, a good musical will work wonders. But talking to friends is what I usually do. Or, if everything's really bad I just go to bed.

Ah well if you want to dance around like a maniac sure but I don't seem to have the energy when I'm depressed :D
Also I have never paid any attention to the lyrics to 'Just a Day'

I prefer to relax with a nice twister icecream while lying on the bed. Nothing beats it.

oh please, tell me youve ever heard that song (assuming youre a feeder fan and stuff...) and NOT had an overwhelming urge to dance around like a maniac!!! not physically possible :D hehe, ok, im messin, but thats just such a happifying song, just so upbeat.
Also I have never paid any attention to the lyrics to 'Just a Day'

"waking up at 12 in my clothes again, feel my head explode from a night on gin, another night out late. i dont wana drink dont wana be a clown, gotta get my feet back on the ground, before it pulls me in. how come it ended up like this? and who's gonna catch me when im coming down to hit the ground again? all by mself, cos i dont wana drag you down, hold you down, cos youre a friend, i blame myself, guess you think its funny now, funny now...."

perfect.. you get to simultaneously wallow in depression, while picking yourself up . and the music makes it necessary to dance like a maniac in order to do this ;)

I prefer the lazy route of a drive down the dual carraigeway while listening to Buck Rogers :D hah

Also I'm eating a giant cookie right now and I'm far from depressed. It's a triple choc tesco one for anyone that's wondering :p

Usually a joint and a nap sorts everything out. If i sleep on something, it always seems to be a lot better when i wake up, whereas the joint makes me feel happy, and also puts me to sleep ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,460 ✭✭✭workaccount

Ok the day is over and i've had a nap and listened to a relaxation cd. Now I'm very happy coz i'm headin up to the shop to get a can of beans so I can have "beans on toast"!

If you mix a little butter in with the beans as you cook them they taste awesome ;)
