Damm, hoped that would be the end of papayankee going on!
Oh well a bit of peace until the assesment centre before she then waits for the results!

    What is your problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭PapaYankeeGirl

If you dont like reading about my experiences (waiting for results etc) then forget about them. Im not the only one who talked about waiting for the post and I dont see you having a go at them. So why is it everytime I leave a comment you have to but in and be nasty about. I think you will find I have more support on here than you do.

OK jack_von_hat, you are borderline on trolling. Take this as a friendly warning to back off with the comments about other posters. Some people are passionate about what they're doing, and this forum allows for people to express their feelings - every day if they wish to do so.

If you don't want to read her comments, then you can simply add her to your ignore list. If you need help doing that, then let me know and I will walk you through it.

To all C14 IST'ers. Congrats to those who have passed so far, and good luck for the AC. If you need any advice just ask. For those who haven't been successful, don't give up. Remember, it's not failure if you come back stronger.

    Best regards, JVB

Now that people are starting to get their IST results I was wondering if any C13'ers have any advice about the assessment centre? I would really like some more information about the situational interview and the written assessment, perhaps some of you guys can tell us about some of the scenarios etc that you were presented with. Also, whats the dress code for the assessment centre?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Hey guys. I sat the IST on friday. And i have to say, i found I left out so many more questions than i thought i would. I found it so hard to concentrate as well, under the time constraint. I guessed the rest but im guessin i didnt get to attempt enough properly to get what i need :(

well done everyone that has passed :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 Steve75

Trust me, if I can pass so can the rest of you. Really feel gutted for those who didn't get it. I failed last year by 4 marks and it was sooooo annoying, but dont give up, look at me I sat it again and passed! Keep on trying, live your dream.

    well done pyg for passing.

what did you do to improve things after going for it last year?

also, anyone any idea when C15 commences?

I did absolutly nothing, No practice papers, no books. All i did was manage my time better in the test, it must have worked!

I would say C15 wont be till this time next year. C13 june/july 2007 C14March/April 2008, seems to just be yearly! Though dont take my word for it!

Does anyone know what a female should wear to the A/C?

Any C13ers that could tell me? Or anyone?

    Thanks:)

i applied in the last campaigne. i done all the tests and was told that i had passed each one. i got a letter in febuary telling me that the psni were running behind in the process and not to worry, and that i was to inform them about any change in my details. there were no changes so i never made contact. that was the last time i heard from any1. i was never told a merit pool number!!
i am wondering if there is a number i can call to find out my merit pool number.
it is taking a long time and i did re-apply for this campaigne. had my first test on monday :). was grand.
also, on my last vetting form i wrote in my fathers details section that i do not know my fathers details. i have not spoken to the man since i was a child and was brought up by my mother and step father. i do now know where he lives and have since sat and spoken with him. turns out he started a family of his own and i have 3 brothers and 1 sister i have never met. that is good news for me but i hope that the fact i never had these people on my vetting form will it affect my chances. do you know???
    thanks

    Hi lexiemaguire.

You can call 02890650222 and ask to be put through to Recruitment. They will be able to give you futher information on your application from last year.

Regarding your personal situation, the only thing you can do is give as much information as you have. You do not get penalised for being in a situation where you simply do not know. I know a good few people in a similar situation and they got in with no problems.

The next intake is August. I wish you well!

heya, got my IST today, and i must say i am so so nervous. Reading some of the comments on here are quite worrying, about missing by 4 marks etc.

it makes me think that ill have to rush rush rush but also try my best, and when i see 1 minute left on the clock im scoring in all random guesses :D lol.

though there are good points like Papayankegirl who inspire me to go and do my best. She was so worried and yet came out on top :D and congrats to you Papa for doing so well.

ps. i have a terrible cold so im goin to be muttering and blowin away during the IST :( what a disaster lol.

    Stephen142.

For Chatterbox08/PapaYankeeGirl and any person attending the AC:

    Ryan/Lynsay,

The assessment centre (AC) is a situational scenario. You have to manage different situations in 3 areas:

    1) A written exercise where you answer 3 scripted questions on how you would resolve a situation, testing your written skills.
    2) x 3 role plays testing; respect for diversity, community and customer focus, effective communication, problem solving, personal responsibility, resilience and finally, team working. Each competancy is tested more than once throughout the session.
    3) A situational interview where you have to verbally answer 3 hypothetical questions, testing your speaking skills.

The written exercise is against the clock (eek!) so manage your time and move on to your next question or you will not finish.

The role plays are varied, each are 5 minutes in duration maximum, and test the competancies required of a police officer (although you have to play the role of someone else whose skills will mimmic many of those required in policing - do not try and be a police officer). You are provided with a break down of the days events in advance so you can work out what areas are tested in what role play and tailor your responses as such.

The situational interview is in front of 2 people and they allow you to ramble to your hearts content. All I would say is be concise and don't be afraid to stop when you feel you have answered each question. It is easy to keep talking and you will loose track of your point very easily.

On top of all this I would only suggest that you be honest and be yourself throughout. If you try and be the person you think they are looking for you will struggle.

Hope this is of some help.

    Best wishes

    JVB

Ok its been 18 days since medical. 17 days since I sent off my letter regarding blood pressure to OHW, and still nothing back yet.

conor123 had his same day as me, with no complications and got pass letter a week ago. How much longer should I expect to wait for word back, anyone have an idea?

Congratulations everyone for passing their IST's!!!

I hope I'm in your gang soon! IST was on 02/05 so hope to hear soon.

PapayankeeGirl ignore <snip> in my opinion if he can't deal with someone expressing their feelings or worries then he would struggle to communicate well with victims which is what this job is all about! ( not saying you sound like a victim!:D

Do they just tell you pass or fail or do they give you a result?

JVB thanks for the advice on A/C I hope I can use it!

    Thanks(for sticking up for me)

Last year I failed by 4 marks and I know that because if you fail you get told your score on the letter! This time I passed, but they dont tell you your score (annoyingly) but when you see your invite to the A/C your just so happy passing is all that matters, not how well you did. All the best Im sure you will pass! You will fly trough the A/C with your experience.

Just wanna say congrats to anyone that has got their results and has passed. To all that have failed don't dwell on it, You will have learned a lot from it and honestly it will make things easier 2nd time round. Trust me I have been threw it many many times.
Just a wee tip for anyone attending a/c soon. There are a couple of BUZZ words if you like that the assessors like to hear. 1 is co-operate and another is compromise.
Co-operate brings in things like team working and building confidence with the person/persons.
Another wee tip is, If you get stuck for things to say-There is a glass in front of you full of water to drink. Instead of stuttering and sayin mmmm ahhh ummm. Simply excuse yourself reach for the glass and have a wee confident sip or 2. This honestly will give you time to think of something and you don't look a fool for doing so. Actually shows great confidence.
    Hope this helps a little
    Alan

Oh yes, I nearly forgot; the dress code for the AC is shirt and tie for males (suit if owned) and equivalent smart attire for females. Remember first impressions, this is where you are being assessed.

    JVB

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 420 ✭✭alanbelfast

There is no dress code for the AC and this does not influence your scores in any way. Although i would always wear a suit to any of the tests and even my medical.
I do suggest suits and such like for all parties though during any of the testing.
    Alan

I hope I dont get told my score then!!

Through my training I had to do a lot of role play exams, having never done role plays before I was cacking it!!

Some tips I soon learnt are to take deep breaths before going in it helps calm you down and make sure to go to the toilet before hand, your body has the worst timing when the nerves kick in.

Sounds like you you shouldn't have anything to worry about though alot should be down to common sense! Just think customer service!

Thanks, though I would say casual is best for the IST. Very few had suits on. :)
