Indeed, you (nearly) all suck massive donkey pole.

Deus Ex, by a country mile.

Anyone who disagrees shall be among the first against the wall.

Half Life should get an honourable mention though

What? Deus ex was a rubbish fps!

Halflife all the way!that game was an absolute breakthrough in fps gaming! The only game i continued to play(with its mods an all) for years on end!

Deus ex isn't a FPS. Its a hybrid of a FPS and RPG. More RPG in fact. Give it a chance its fantastic.

Deus Ex needs to be given at least a week, I told all my mates who had given up on it to go back and give it 5 days, they all ended up addicted, to a man. Once the skills start to build it'll have you by the short and curlies.

<edit>Oh yeah and what he said ^^^^ about donkies.

    Deus Ex
    System Shock 2
    Freespace 2
    Grim Fandango

That's it. I can't narrow it down anymore. If I think longer they're likely to be sniped off by others anyway, tis too tight at the top.

    Super Mario Kart, snes
    Street fighter 2, snes/coin-op

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,241 ✭✭✭Steven

    System Shock 2
The most immersive and enjoyable single player experience I have ever.. er, experienced.

    Medieval Total war
I haven't played Rome yet so consider this a placeholder ;)

Honourable mentions to Super Metroid (Those feckin' metroids are terrifying), Deus Ex and Quake 3 in it's various modified incarnations.

I don't believe it, five pages and nobody has once mentioned the True best game ever:

    Planescape Torment

and for second well I just can't decide between Operation Flashpoint & Elite.

Only two platforms I can discuss:-

    Spectrum
    Manic Miner
    Jet Set Willy
    Atic Attack
    Sabrewolf
    Starquake
    Way of the Exploding Fist

    PC
    Wing Commander
    Doom 2
    Half-Life

My absolute choice of best game ever:-

    Deus Ex - no contest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,118 ✭✭✭LoBo

    X-COM
    Civilization
    Syndicate
    Dune II
    Pirates!

I think you may need more than 10 options in the poll :)

If I would go by the most addictive games, I would say, the entire Final Fantasy Series.
don't really think there is a best game ever.
allthough Asteroids used to kick ass, LOL
    otherwise.

    GT3
Final Fantasy (all parts, except maybe the 8th )
    Deus EX
    Fallout 1 and 2
    Carmageddon
    Street Fighter 2 turbo
    Mortal combat 1
Rock n' Roll Racing (best racing ever)
    F-Zero
and could go on for days.
    and, oh yeah, PITFALL

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭Occidental

    Doom
    Commander Keen(all numbers)

Mild addictions to Gorf, Moon Patrol, Sensible Soccer and a mention to Space Invaders and Donkey Kong out of pure respect.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 8,886 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Dang forgot to mention Chuckie Egg.

also forgot to mention GTA3. Only a handful of games give you that feeling when you first fire them up, and you think "yeah, this is something VERY special". GTA3 was one of them, FFVII and HL2 are some of the others.

Arrgh ... so many games. To narrow it down, I would have to say the following games deprived me of my youth:

    1. Championship Manager Series (01 / 02 specifically at a push)
    2. Final Fantasy VII

I'd like an honourable mention for Cinemaware's Wings on the Amiga 600, Rock N' Roll Racing on the SNES and Speedball on the Amiga. Oh, also X-Wing on the PC and Tie Fighter on the PC, they were class ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,222 ✭✭✭Scruff

    P.C.
    Freespace 2
    Half Life

    Amiga
    Elite 2
Xcom (graphics less chunky that the pc version)
    Syndicate(same as above)

    My two votes are:

    Half Life
    Civilization II

    Honourable mentions:
Monkey Island 2 (has the best soundtrack to any game ever made)
    Ultima Underworld
    Doom II
    Team Fortress Classic
    Deus Ex
    edit: Wing Commander series
    edit: Tie Fighter
