Luke Ivory has left the Fitzwilliam. Lots of chat/gossip last night about whether he left or was let go but bottom line is that he cleared his desk last night at about 10pm.
I know that many people on here will agree with me that he was the heart and soul of the place. Best of luck Luke.

That is terrible news, he was indeed the life and soul of the Fitz........ and as above I would like to wish him the best in whatever he plans for the future...

That is terrible. I don't know why but for the last while I had a feeling that this might happen. I had no reason for thinking it, but I felt something was slightly off.

I wonder will this result in some other sort of schism in staff/customers as I believe happened when the Fitz was set up initially?

Well good luck to him anyways, I think everyone has only the utmost respect for that man.

That's terrible. He is IMO the finest cardroom manager in Ireland by a country mile

    WTF?

The man is a legend....for good reason :(

Disappointing news. I would like to wish Luke all the best in whatever he turns his hand to now. I must say I always found him to be friendly and welcoming, if you wernt in the place for 6 months he would still remember your name. He was always very fair and had an excellent relationship with all his customers.

a gentleman to deal with & an excellent card room manager

I am sure he'll get a top job somewhere else. It is no coincidence that the dealers in the Fitz are the best disciplined.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭Fatboydim

    Say it isn't so.

I don't get down to Dublin a oftn as I'd lke to these days. But I always knew that no matter how long it had been if Luke was around I'd get a friendly welcome. In fact last time I was down I had the pleasure of playing Omaha with Luke. [Terrible player almost as bad as me :D ]

I can only hope that we will see and hear from him soon.

Luke thanks you all for his messages of support!!!

I heard this news last night. I can only agree with all above that Luke was simply the best cardroom manager TD etc etc that I have come across and will be a massive loss to the Fitz card room.

    A gentleman too...

A bit unusual to clear your desk at 10pm on a monday night which could lead to all sorts of rumours. Either way Luke Ivory In my opinion is one of the best in both character and people management.. subtle but brilliant.

Good luck Luke in which ever card room is lucky enough to grab you..

    Cheers

    Jay

Terrible news, I guess that means no more Irish poker madness at 3 a.m.

He was the talisman man of the fitz, if you are reading Luke i wish you success in all you future endeavors.

Luke will be a huge loss to the Fitz....don't get down very often myself now but always looked forward to seeing Luke and enjoyed playing there safe in the knowledge the games were under his excellent supervision.
Good luck to you Luke in your future endeavours - you are a gentleman.

Was in the Fitz last night when the news broke. You could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. As always with these things you hear rumours and speculation but I personally don't think its fair to discuss such sensitive issues on a public forum like this and I would discourage people from doing so (before it starts). All I know is Luke will be a hard act to follow and I'd like to wish him the best for the future.

Yeah, unfortunately its true. Luke is one of the main reasons I got involved in the poker industry. He taught me the game initially and taught me the culture and the jargon when I didnt know a "pony" from a "one-er". He also taught me to deal and gave me a job after my leg healed up and for that I'll always be grateful.

Luke is one of, if not the finest cardroom managers in Europe. I'm fairly sure this is not the last we've heard from Mr Ivory.

Finally, please keep this topic going as it has begun. If you want to wish Luke well in the future great but I have zero desire to see this turn into a popcorn-feeding discussion of the why and wherefore's. Its a private matter and it will stay that way.

    DeV.

One of the high points of my time in Ireland has been meeting Luke and the rest of the gang at the Fitz. Class act for sure! Best of luck!
    Lawrence
P.S. Hope to meet you again across the feltl as I still have some of your money ;)

Best of luck Luke. Sad news.

I once bumped into Luke in Brown Thomas after only meeting him a couple of times previous, I said hello and he instantly remembered my name. Pure class.

Wow what a disaster for the Fitz. Luke's the sort person only a moron wouldn't bend over backwards twice over to keep.

I'm sure he won't need any luck in being a success in whatever he decides to do next but he has my very best wishes anyway.

Not in casinos that often but when I was, the one he ran was where I felt most welcome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,639 ✭✭✭Iago

Can only echo what everybody else has said so far, I haven't played live for a long time but anytime I was in the fitz Luke would greet me by name and with a smile.

Impossible act to follow imho, best of luck with whatever you move onto Luke.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 474 ✭✭delanec8

Ah fnck it!! Absolute class act.

I haven't been in the fitz much recently but i remember a couple of times 1 or 2 years ago where i went in pretty sauced and he encouraged me to buy in for less than i wanted to, and told me to get a cup of coffee before i sat down. I definetely appreciated this afterwards.

Hopefully Luke is back involved in Irish poker in some capacity in the near future.

Very bad news for the Fitz, very good news for whatever business gets him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Jayminator

Good points Tim & De vore. Lets keep this as a support forum for Luke. Good point Bohsman maybe congrats is the right word.

I believe Luke is aware of the support on boards so he is aware of the high regard we hold him in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,212 ✭✭✭MrPillowTalk

Really surprised the fitz have let him walk if that is the case, I imagine he will open his own club and will probably take a chunk of the fitz customers with him, if he doesnt want to go out on his own I imagine one of the other clubs will snap him up.

    Either way best of luck.

I only met him last Friday. But I can confirm that he's a gentleman. I referred to him as "The Luke", because whenever there's a rule question here on boards where there are two sides and no clear winner, there is always one person saying "I'll ask Luke". And Luke's answer is always taken as the correct one. I'm sure that its a big loss to the Fitz.

    So, did Richie get promoted?

Luke is the reason why I always go to the Fitz to play when I'm in Dublin. He's basically like an insurance policy. I know when I'm there I have nothing to worry about because things will be taken care of in the right way and there's nowhere more important than that feeling than in a poker room and there's no other poker room where I have that sense of relief. In every other poker room in Ireland there is something about the place either big or small that annoys me. I'll probably still go to the Fitz but it just wont be the same and I'm defintely more likely to venture elsewhere in the future.

    All the best to Luke.

Luke is a huge loss to the Fitz. I'm pretty sure he will go on to bigger and better pastures. You could always be sure that if there was any dispute, Luke would make the right decision and not one person would dare argue with him.

He was also the life and soul of the blind omaha madness and ran those bigevents like no-one else can. he will be surely missed but this definetly isnt the last we heard of Luke. Thanks for all the memories and best of luck

    Tony

I absolutely agree with this; it's no exaggeration to say that Luke is the best in Europe. The Fitz won't be half the place it was without him. I remember walking into the Fitz for the first time when it was only opened a few weeks, Luke was dealing a cash game but left it to give me a tour of the casino. He has a talent for putting people at ease that few other people have. I was a regular in the Merrion at that time, but I never went back after that first night in the Fitz.

The very best of luck to Luke, and I hope he's not finished with the Dublin poker scene (although I very much doubt it).

    Derek Murray.

PS: What's going to happen with his legendary final table speech? It would be a shame not to hear that again.

i think all this Thanks for the memories is a little funny as OPR said he isnt dead or anything! he`s a great guy im sure he will land on the fitz but ive a feeling it could be something like Fitz RIP etc... he was the main reason i played there. im sure the same can be said for others.

He's not dead and the world wont stop but for a lot of people Luke and the Fitz were a combination that broke in a new generation of players. Whats being opined here is that that combination is dead and we are the poorer for it as a community. A sentiment I agree with.

On the other hand, the only constant is change. The Merrion was the home of poker before the Fitz. Before that it was the Jackpot (now reopened). Perhaps the next chapter is about to start, who knows. (I don't so please don't sms me asking me for inside info :)).

Yea, thats the death of the Fitz alright, cant say Im too unhappy about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,299 ✭✭✭✭MadsL

Wishing Luke well, whatever he turns his hand to next. There's always a job for a man of Luke's talent and character. Luke taught me to deal, gave me a job (twice!) and congratulated me heartily when I made those rare trips to the cash desk at the end of a tourney.

Watching his effortless dealing with players, dealers, chips, rulings, waitlists, payouts, drunks, waitresses, and all the madness that is a busy night at the Fitz all I can say is I am still in awe of this man's talent and energy to keep all that happening and still have time to speak to each punter personally.

    He's the man.
