Its amazing we pay to have some programs blocked and FTA viewers have all the programs.

There is nothing stopping you from tuning in the FTA version.

buying a DVD recorder gets around that

I don't think one should have to buy a dvd recorder especially when we are paying over the odds for sky vis a vis the UK with the Euro worth 0.86 GB£ at the moment.

    It's utterly stupid period.

I agree black briar, especially as you only know the movie is blocked seconds before it starts. Its then too late to record by dvd.

Crazy situation but at least it is available on FTA.

2 completely different platforms with different rules as to what can be broadcast by Channel 4. Channel 4 do not hold the satellite rights to some of its programming in Ireland. It isn't that stupid at all.

Hope its ok to post in this section..........

Since yesterday channel 4, E4, More 4 and all the plus1 versions are not working on my sky system.

I pay the full sub with HD and i get a message on the banner saying "no signal received". Everything esle works fine wxcept these particular channels.

I am puzzled can anyone shed any light on this issue please?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    Cabling issue.

I had that problem and a new down lead fixed it.

    I'm thinking the very same.

I am two weeks into the 4 week HD trial and i am thinking of scrapping everything to do with sky and switching to Freesat HD. I have a good Antenna for Irish tv.:o

    Hi
Just wanted to ask if this service has been removed from the Irish Channel 4.
I can't seem to get on Digital text or the normal text. When I checked at my sister's in England it was working fine
    Thanks

Hmm. Does this "blocking" involve making the program unwatchable by ****ing up the picture and hitting the mute button every two seconds? It's like something you'd see in a storm, and it only happens after 9pm. I don't think it's a problem at our end because every other channel (apart from MORE4, Scuzz, Bliss etc.) is absolutely fine.

    Ta.

Nope. If a programme is blocked you get the blue screen and the "This programme is unavailable" message.

Yes, some channels have not negotiated the rights to show certain films or programs in Ireland (probably because an irish station has them exclusively here). With the analogue service it seems to be just ignored, but with the digital its possible for them to filter out on a program by program bases.

i remember that well with the last series of the sopranos on Channel 4,they blocked it out over here because rte2 was planning to start the last series soon

Solution to blocked Channel 4 - go to "Services" and add Channel 4 to your "Other Channels".

Next time you see the blue screen on Channel 4, button 135, press "Services"..... simple.:D

    YES!

this happens me also every night, never during the day its really wierd was tryin to watch shameless tonight and it was unwatchable , i made a topic on this in the television forum(didnt see this forum) and was told to check services>System Setup>Signal Test and my Input 1 Signal Strength is very low, signal quality is high, i presume this is the reason for loss of picture/sound....
im gonna wait till tomoro mornin to check see if its different because i can watch channel4 and e4 during the day no prob

i really dont wanna get up on the roof either..

Can anyone confirm or deny if this works, yerman might be taking the piss, but I don't have, nor have I ever had Sky digital, so I am quite a nub when it comes to these things.

Certain imported programmes on CH4 are blocked on the Republic of Ireland programme guide (EPG) by SKY, because of licencing rights issues. You see a blue screen with "This programme is not available". You don't get interference or funny sound disturbances (sounds more like interference from a DECT 'phone nearby).

You can get around this blocking by tuning in CH4 manually from another transponder which is not covered by SKY's encryption - mad or what:D

Lots of information in the stickies about tuning in CH4 or others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Rick_

See the top sticky for how to tune in a completely unrestricted Channel 4 on satellite, including Channel 4 +1, E4, E4 +1, More 4, More 4 +1, Film 4 and Film 4 +1, ALL UNRESTRICTED and also free to air, so you don't even have to subscribe to Sky to view them!

This post should be the first one in the thread and all others deleted so everyone with Channel 4 problems will know straight away how to solve the problem rather than having to read through 6 pages to find the answer!

A list of the frequencies of the most popular channels can be found on
    http://tvtrade.ie/inf/12_1/FAQ,Technical%20Information.

Or alternatively you can log onto satcodx.com which has the frequency for every channel know to man.

They're analogue channels you have linked to.

Plus my sticky is much more quick and easy to read! :p
