    *obligatory paladin whine*

Paladin Holy nerf is horrifically undignified and remarkably unfair. The retri (minor) buff is pretty nice and I loved playing my Retribution paly on the PTR, however we are still a pretty much broken class.

DEAR GOD SOMEONE FIX THE BUFFING SYSTEM!

Shamans got hit pretty hard, druids got some love.
Engineers should be a little happier, as well as Tailors and Alchemists.
Though, I'm sure once the dust settles, and engineers can see a little more clearly, they may begin asking themselves; "hey, how comes every other profession can change their specialisation without too much effort?" - and things will get interesting :p

I'm still completely torn about which prof to drop for my mage alt. Enchanting or engineering.

Arenas are the in-thing these days, and since the majority of Engineering tools and trinkets (that usually gave me a pretty good fighting chance against my nemesis match-ups) do not work in arenas, I guess its all a question of how likely I am to be willing to grind for the mats for the helm, after grinding for the Spellfire set...

Tbh I'm fairly reserved on this and I think the mass whining is a over the top. I'm going to hold judgement on it until I'm in an intensive raid fight post patch. The nerf was needed, illumination was imba with the amount of crit we were getting and I hold no weight with some people who now say that crit is useless. As a Nilhilem pally on PTR said "Its no big deal, now I finish a fight on 60% mana instead of 100%"

Overall I'm pretty happy with being a holy paladin. And also from what I've seen of prot paladin's they are a benefit to a raid and a viable tank, and while the itemisation for this spec is ok it still needs work (most pallys end up wearing warrior gear). Ret is pretty useless though in a raid or otherwise. Its our "soloing" spec, but it probably one of the worst spec's out of any other class to solo and is almost useless in arenas.

Have you ever seen any of Awake's (Nihilum healadin) boss kill videos? All he does is spam Flash of Light, which is probably the most efficient heal in the game anyway. It's not the big raiders that the nerf is going to hit really hard (due to mass FoL spam and insane gear), but for blue-geared holydins (like myself, 41/20/0 with ~1150 +heal) trying to solo-heal heroics and starting in Karazhan it's a huge kick in the pants.

As a raider I only use FoL on trash and when I'm raid healing. If I'm MT healing on a new encounter have to use HL, or else the tank will die (I don't use it 100% of the time mind, switch between the two).

TBH, depending on the patch goes when ever it's implimented, I'll be quiting WoW. If certain key issues are not fixed by this patch it's the end of WoW for me.

Well for one, the amount of bugs in the game at the minute. The flavour of the month class issues when it comes to class buffing and nerfing is another. If they don't find balance and fix some of the class issues that have been around for too long it says quite a lot about their ability at maintaining live games. The fact that the roles in end game raiding require the most amount of sacrafices to perform their duties, through talent choices and gear is one thing that annoys me. DPS classes on the other hand chose their spec, and can still perform their role in end game instances, the only difference is the way they play. In fact this more than anything has lead me to become completely fed up with the game.

The amount of preperation that needs to be done to raid is another major flaw in the game. The fact that it takes longer for, again for the classes who have the most responsibility (protection warriors and healers) than it does for pure dps. I would like to be able to raid once a night, but unfortunatly I can't do that unless I spend an hour or two preparing before hand. Or if I devote my weekend to preparing for a week of raids. It's not a nice way to live, and because stupidly enough I chose to play this game the way it is at the minute, I fell behind in college and I may have to repeat next year.

The game is just boring at the minute. The only fun I get out of it is in PvP with my hunter that I was leveling before my exams when I wasn't raiding. Healing is fun at first. Fun enough that the idea of a support role appears to be a great idea, untill you hit end game and have played for a couple of months raiding. Everything changes after that.

So, to sum it up, part of the reason I want to quit is because I've come to the realisation that because I've played wow instead of studying and it has potentially fucked me up big time in college, The philosophy behind the game annoys me, and I'm completely bored with it.

I agree alot with what you say.

Blizzard don't seem to be handling class balance very well atm, and its upsetting alot of people. I'm finding myself getting bored of the game as well, but this has happened in the past and I usually just take a break and it sorts me out. Its not that I'm bored with healing, its just the game /shrug I was doing arena a bit and wanted to be serious about it, but it has fallen by the wayside recently.

Regards to prep for raids I think that will be fixed somewhat with the nerf to pots. And the fact that dps classes can solo easily and still stay in raid spec is just something we have to live with, can see how they'd change it (although I don't find holy solo'ing to be that bad).

I think we've all been guilty of putting wow ahead of RL stuff at some stage.

Tbh I don't think the issues you are having with the game are going to be fixed by one patch. My advice would be to take a break for awhile and see how it goes after that, or else just cut your loses now and quit if you don't want to play in the future.

Xfire says I have 3078 hours (128.25 days) played over all. I'm sure it's more than that because I havn't always been logged in to Xfire for it to log my gameplay, but that's a lot of time spent on a game. If I'd have been working for those 3078 hours at minimum wage, I could have earned €25,547.40. Now, obviously in reality I'd have no where near that amount since there's no way possible I could have worked ALL of the hours that I played WoW, but I'd imagine still It would add up to be quite a lot of money. It's kind of scary to me looking at it this way.

Sure I've had a lot of fun playing the game, but there have also been a lot of stressful times playing the game, and for some reason these are more memorable than the fun times. It's become an addiction now in my opinion. I really don't want another year wasted when I return from holidays after the summer. It all just seems to me to have been a complete waste.

I hate to be the one to say this but all games are a "waste" of time in one way or another (depending on how you view them).

The way i see it, if you enjoyed the game then it's not a waste. If you enjoyed a game for 8months then hated it last 2 months you didnt waste 10months of your life, only two.

If it's gotten to the point where you logon simply because it's expected of you (either by guild to farm mats or because you got nothing better you WANT to do) then i would suggest taking a long hard look at why your still going through the motions. You might blame Blizz and that they are messing the game about, in fairness thats the state of MMORPG's, constantly changing (sometimes from one extreme to another, regarding classes, specs etc) and this will really never change. If you expect it to one day be all hunky dory you may as well quit now as you will be bitterly disappointed.

You must make your decesion on what the game is currently (possibly the near future), not what it may be one day become(because if/when it becomes what you want, you can always return ) and base your decesion to stay or quit on that. As has been said, if you feel the game has potential but just not in the short term then dont torture yourself, take a break, choose a different game, choose a different hobby but dont keep playing for the sake of it! You say your bored, i would say that while new content/skills will temporarily release your boredom it will return much quicker than you think. The game mechanics do not change hugely from patch to patch, just the external shell.

I've had this conversation with many people over many games (both MMORPG and other) over the last 8years or so and the advice i always give is basically the above. Simply put, if you dont enjoy it and consider it a waste, just stop. If at a later date you miss it, well it will still (probably) be there.

At the end of the day the choice is yours as is your opinion on whether i'm full of **** or a genius or something in between. I just hope you make the correct choice for YOU.

o and buff prot warriors :p

I agree completely. Actually, I've always viewed games as being similar to reading, cheap entertainment. A lot cheaper than when I used to go drinking three or four nights a week. To each their own and all that but I think if RL stuff is suffering because of a game you are playing (and yes I have been in this position) then you really need to straighten out your priorities imho.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,074 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I always think of games like i do with other entertainment. Its escapism for me. Weather its a book, film, or game, i like the feelings that playing games can bring up. Thats one thing that i dont like about MMO's though, as you cant really have a story there.

As for Warcraft, i think my problem atm is that i'm a lvl57 paladin, who really doesnt like the slowness of my attacks (swing, wait 2.6 sec, swing-miss, wait 2.6 sec etc...), and cant really go holy atm, since i cant do any instances. I think i'm gonna reroll a new mage or a rogue, or level my level25 tauren druid, to try high level stuff as horde.

If that doesnt keep me interested, then its curtains for me.

My pally alt has hat same problem and he's only lvl 27. Im thinking of speccing prot/holy as im lvling up with a shammy friend andhe does most of the dps anyway :p

I had EXACTLY the same realisations last October, was really bored, going nowhere fast within the game and needless to say (the same old issue) RL was suffering BIG. I was surprised to read about college being affected as this happened to me...I was 2% above the min pass rate that year (part-time student, working full time). It made me smile though...how much we;re wrecking our lives for a bloody game LOL...frightening!!!!

I too agree, PURE excapism. But, my partner (WOW didn't quite wreck that!) says something similar...if you're enjoying your self.........

So I've been away for all these months, but pulled out the box and discs (cos I deleted it originally to prevent me returning easily) and am now toying with returning after nearly 9 months break. I here Druids are ace now!!! But it's about time, when I played last they were SOOOOOOOO crap it was incred! Swings and Roundabouts no?

    *soothes*

All our 'dins have level 70 chars anyway, so none of them are too heartbroken. We hadn't really gotten used to using 'em as it is, so won't effect the guild much. Can't say the same for the more hardcore guilds on our server who've been using a lot of holy 'dins and shadow priests.

Felguard: This pet will periodically check to see if you know the talent which allows you to summon it, and die if you do not know the talent.
Huh? How can you summon it in the first place?
