Anyone planning on heading this year?

I wonder if the Pumpkins rumour is still going since they've announced a headlining gig in Brussels in May. Hmm...

I'd expect Tool and Nine Inch Nails to be playing since they'll both be in Europe at that time. Love to see them back-to-back. :)

If I can't mobilise my friends for Roskilde, Pukklepop/Lowlands is in reserve

Usually only a small portion of bands play both Pukkelpop and Werchter. I know LCD Soundsystem are confirmed for both this year.

If you enjoy Werchter though, you should deffo check it out.

The second week of May I think. Could be earlier though.

Tiga played Pukkelpop last year aswell, wanted to see him but I think he clashed with Radiohead or something.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going. Just need the first lineup announcement to entice me. :)

I'm definitely heading to it this august. Class music and a cheap price, what more could you want

Anyone know when tickets go on sale?? If the lineup is anyway good I'm there, nothing really planned for the summer yet + this looks perfect!

    May at some stage.

Although it's crazy, tickets have never sold out for this, so take your time. ;)

It certainly seemed much larger than Werchter with seven stages spread into different areas, but I don't know the specifics.

Lineup announced! I presume Basement Jaxx, Nine Inch Nails and Tool are to headline. :)

Have to say though, there isn't a lot of "must see" acts for me in this first announcement. If I do decide to go I'd probably spend most of my time in the Dance Hall as they've got a great lineup on that side of things. Most of what else that has my interest is either playing Primavera Sound or Electric Picnic.

Aye... the second annoucement will probably be completely tailored to moi. :)

Shame the Pumpkins aren't up there. Wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Have already booked my flights this morning. I had such a good time last year that all I needed was a confirmation of a few acts I wanted to see. Nice to see Eagles Of Death Metal on the line up as they made my festival last year. Hopefully Pumpkins will be in the second announcement. The dance tent will be amazing by the looks of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Hmm... according to Blabbermouth Tool will play on the 18th, however Nine Inch Nails will also play on the 18th according to their official site. Maybe Nine Inch Nails aren't headlining after all?

Tool and Trent Reznor back-to-back.

But that leaves another headliner open... I wonder if the Pumpkins are holding off confirming for this until after their Brussels gig at the end of May?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I don't know if Basement Jaxx are headlining; they did play under The Prodigy two years ago. My presumption is based on the fact that the headliners are generally announced initially, but we'll wait and see I suppose. I do know they like having at least one big dance act closing one of the nights.

And I'd consider Tool bigger than Nine Inch Nails, at least in the touring business. The advantage Nine Inch Nails have is that they have a brand spanking new album out while 10,000 Days is old tat. But Tool's name is first on the list so I'm sure it's all been decided anyway. :)

Just got his actual album 'Sexor' there..

Also, he's produced Chromeo's albums, check out "Needy Girl" on Youtube. Dunno if they're on the festival circuit for the summer though.

I just heard about this festival yesterday and was going to post a new thread about it until I found this. I think the line-up is amazing and there are still more acts to be announced. My goal for the summer was going to be electric picnic but it looks like I might have repeats around that weekend so this looks like a very worthy substitute, TBH the line-up for e.p. this year didn't really do much for me, I was going more for the craic and atmosphere but Tool, NIN, 2 many djs, Arcade Fire, E.O.D.M. and more at the one festival is exactly what I'm looking for.
Has anyone been over for it before?

I was over for it last year and its a great festival. Everything is so much better organised than anything over here including the picnic. A few points to note:

1: Your train ticket to the festival from anywhere in Belgium is included in the price of the ticket.
2:They actually have a system in place for filling the campsite and fill from the front back.
3: The crowd is pretty young. Pukkelpop stands for Pimplepop according to one belgian I spoke to last year.
4: There is a town really close by if you need supplies.
5: The festival and campsite are on opposite sides of a main road.
6: You need to buy tokens for beer and food at the festival. This is pretty standard to most European festivals I think.
7: The dance arena is open till 4 in the morning!!!
8: The campsite bar is open 24 Hours!!

Really had a great time last year and cant wait to go again this year.

Sweet, sounds pretty well organized. Can't be a bad thing when you have thousands of clueless people wandering around for a weekend. Any idea on prices for food and drink? I'm not looking for specifics but would they be in line with prices at festivals here? I'm liking the dance tent open 'til 4 and even more so the 24 hour bar. Haven't the Belgians ever heard of "Do not lead us into temptation"?

It seemed to me at least to be a bit cheaper to buy drinks etc. You dont get pints they are a bit smaller but I think it was about 2.50 each or something. If you find the festival food a bit expensive people who live along the road to the festival set up little cafes in their front gardens... its pretty funny. They sell beer out of these too which is really cheap by Irish standards. The whole weekend including flights worked out around the same or a little cheaper for me than electric picnic last year. Its a great weekend and I would recommend it to anyone.

Smashing Pumpkins confirmed! After "long and difficult negotiations". Headlining the Friday.

Kings of Leon and M.I.A. also added.

    Well, that's me almost-certainly-going. :)

Just checked the website there, cos I saw the Pumpkins were announced. I kid you not, if my jaw could just suddenly dislodge, it would have. Tool, NIN, the Pumpkins, KoL, EoDM, Lacuna Coil, Silverchair:eek::eek::eek::eek:, Enter Shikari, CSS, Albert Hammond Jr.

For the love of god! Nearly wish I hadnt bought Werchter tickets now. I think the worls is out to deny me in seeing the Pumpkins. I only have Pearl Jam, Metallica, Muse and QOTSA to comfort me now!!

    What a bloody brilliant lineup!
All the above plus battles, gogol bordello, arcade fire, lcd soundsystem, DJ Jazzy Jeff!
    I can't wait!

Just checking flights... fly into Eindhoven using Ryanair on the Monday/Tuesday before the festival and head down to Hasselt really early on the Wednesday.

(If anyone decides to go to Eindhoven, do not train it down, trust me. Get the bus.)

Coming back I might go Eindhoven again, either there or one of the Brussels airports using either Aer Lingus or Ryanair.

    Freak, why fly into Eindhoven?

I like the place plus the coffee shops are nice. :)

I was just checking driving distances:

    Eindhoven
    Brussels
    Charleroi

And Eindhoven is actually the nearest of the three.

Bear in mind there is no direct train from Eindhoven to Hasselt.

I was gonna fly to brussels (charleroi), then bus it into town. Then another train out to hasselt.
Is the campsite open on the 15th?

Is the campsite open on the 15th?

    Yep.

Now I'm thinking... fly into Eindhoven on the Monday, stay the night. Trek down to Hasselt on the bus the next day and spend the night there. Early rise the next morning, pitch my tent at the front. Commence drinking. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

If you arrive the morning the festival begins, expect to be in the rear end of the field.

Last year I arrived during the evening the night before and I was at the halfway point pretty much. It does fill up fast, though it's quite a wide field. You shouldn't be walking for too long. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

It's funny, the Belgians I talked to think €130 is expensive. That and the fact that the festival has never been a sell out... madness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 robotfridge

Yeah my rough guess-timate for the festival is 140 (ticket) + 70E (flights) plus 100E spending money. Thats 310e and im headin into brussels after for 2 days and stayin in ahostel for 25e a night, right in the city centre!
Im flying into brussels on the wed morning then heading to the festival that evening, so we'll have a day to set up and start drinking.
For 6 days of fun thats a great price
    I cant wait now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

100 euro spending money!! I knew I was an alco.

There's now a news section on the site. Interesting!
I have now convinced 7 of my mates to come as well, it started with only 3 of us going.
Do you pay for drink tickets in the festival or something, is it the same with food?

Do you pay for drink tickets in the festival or something, is it the same with food?

Yep. One drink ticket for €1 and drinks are €2. Bear in mind they are half pints... or slightly smaller than half pints.

The absolute worst thing about this festival imo (and probably gripe I have) is that they don't provide free drinking water. Shít, I had to go to the ambulance tent previously 'cos I was so dehydrated, thankfully they had water there. :)

But a little cup of water (the pure stuff) will set you back €2.

Same for food, one food ticket for €1 with typical festival food prices on offer.

Did they have taps at Rock Werchter? I couldn't remember them having any.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places. There were campsite taps but the water wasn't suitable for drinking, or so the signs there said.

There should be a new announcement on Tuesday, and I'll probably have my flights booked by then.

Want to book the flights but really need to know what the bus situation is. I've actually had to put up a post on the Rock Werchter forum since the information seems to be completely nonexistant. Or in complicated Dutch.

Hi Freaks. What exactly do you mean by Bus situation? If you fly in to Charloi there is a return bus for 20 Euro to Brussels central. From there you just hop on a train which is included in the price of your festival ticket to Hasselt. If you fly in to Brussels airport im pretty sure you can get a train straight to the festival from there. If you are planning to fly into Holland first im not too sure what the situation is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

    MikeHoncho wrote:

    That's what I'm doing.

There were definetly buses between Eindhoven and Hasselt last year, but since my buddy and I will need to avail of them before the festival period, I'd like to be sure there's a regular service before booking flights and a hotel.

And just so you know, if you're flying to Charleroi, all the transport you should have to pay for is the aiport transfer to the train station. From there on, once on the train, travelling is free within the festival dates. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

Yeah when I was there last year I remember a load of Irish lads who had been to Eindhoven for "supplies". They said it was easy enough to get their and back and one of my mates even contemplated heading early on the Thursday for an hour. The train included in your ticket thing is brilliant. You would never see that kind of sensible thinking at festivals over here. The only bad thing is queing for the trains home on the sunday morning. So far I have a group of 10 people confimed to go but could end up with about 20 by August. Should be a great weekend.
