Nutrition X RAM

    Hi Folks,

Received a free tub of Nutrition X RAM from a mate. Tried it after the gym and though this stuff tastes too good to be true.

Checked out the label when I got home, at 400kal per serving should it be classed as a weight gainer as opposed to a Recovery Formula? Or a combined weight gainer\recovery formula?

    Cheers

It really is the nicest tasting stuff ever eh???? I'd drink it as a regular drink it's that good.

It's a straight up recovery drink. Once you're taking it post workout that is.

If you were looking for a weight gainer then MassX would be a better choice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Not really. I would expect most weight gainers to come in at a minimum of 550 calories.

RAM contains a 2:1 blend of carbs and protein and all sorts of other goodies aimed at maximising recovery.

Yeah the orange flavour is unreal.

Not looking for weight gain the opposite in fact, that serving just cancelled out the half hour on the cross trainer after a weights session.

I wouldn't look at it that way....

"It helped me reore for the next session and will help build muscle, which is gonna further speed up my metabolism and help me lose ever more fat" is how I'd look at it ;)

If you're worried about kcals, there's nothing stopping you from just taking 2 scoops instead of 3. That's what I'm doing at the moment. It still works a treat for recovery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,548 ✭✭✭siochain

yeah will try the 2 scoops and see how it goes. It would be hard to leave it behind now anyway :)

    I know; it's like a glorious orange-flavoured reward for a hard workout!
Probably my favourite supplement, both for taste and effectiveness.

The funny thing is to market it in America you'd need to give it a stupid name like "DOMS BEGONE", the fact that it just works wouldn't help at all. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

Damn maybe I should get some of this, sounds great. What are the benefits of taking it over a plain auld protein shake, post workout?

It contains sugars to replenish muscle glycogen that you'd have used up during a workout.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

it also contains Vit C, sodium, potassium and magnesium to help cut out DOMS.

The first day i took it i was actually training legs with a freak of nature up in Total Fitness. 140 kilo squats for reps, forced reps with 120, Leg Pressing 300 kilos for multiple sets of doulbe digits and all sorts of other sick stuff. I was one of the most intense workouts of my life.

I was sure i was screwed for DOMS, i was actually talking to JayRoc on the phone and both my quads just cramped up. I'm pretty sure he can remember me screaming!!! Anyway, the next day i woke up and the DOMS weren't even half as bad as i had feared. It's a great product.

I can still hear the screaming....every time I close my eyes......

I'm going to try this stuff. Sounds amazing. Is the main difference between this and XXX just the fact that XXX has creatine in it too?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

I think XXX is just whey with creatine added rather than PWO drink. (Could be wrong)

XXX is your basic all-in-one, from what I can recall it's got glutamine, creatine and a few more goodies mixed in with whey.

Whereas RAM has a carb;protein content of approx 2:1 and is formulated specifically for the post-workout window.

This stuff sounds really good alrite. Ive heard it mentioned a lot recently.

From what i've gathered, this would be far better than the whey isolate im takin with milk and fruit as a post workout shake at the minute???

Im just curious as im due a fresh tub and bein a student and all i need to be sure of things before i commit to buying to them. 35 quid can go a very long way ill hav u know:p

Yes it would be a lot better, but just like any other supplement, your diet needs to be nailed down and your training top notch for your abilities in order to receive the full benefits of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭p-nut

Ah thats cool dragan, dont sweat:D

Ive spent the last week or two focusing on my diet and experimenting with new things, have it nailed down to a T now after everyones advice here and TT. Done a load of research on trainin aswel and came up with a new routine that hurts my muscles to think about:p

I took this week off weights while i was experimenting and just went for a 30 min run monday, today and goin again on friday but im puttin the new system into action as of monday morning, so might order some RAM to have for then.

Thanks again, and sorry for hijackin the thread:o

EDIT: Is orange the best flavour to go with or is the strawberry nicer??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

I'm a big fan of both but the majority vote seems to lie with Orange!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭JayRoc

If you get both you can try the Team Test Special, which is Strange!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

I'm foaming at the mouth waiting for lemon and lime flavour to come out..............

My vote would also go to orange.
Both flavours are great, but orange is just so gulpable (it's a word).

Have you tried getting a 3V voucher? They are super handy and I got an email earlier in the week saying you get five quid free with each 20 quid voucher. (I'm not a shill I swear!)

    175 Phibsboro Road
    Phibsboro

It's just down from the main crossroads in Phibsboro.

Loads of buses go out there, you're in UCD right? You can get the 10 straight out there.

Ye I have to say I am not the biggest fan of the strawberry and after I finish my current tub I doubt I will get another.

orange on the other hand is the business

my mam let me use her credit card to order some off pronutrition last night after plenty of sweet talk of course:D

Hope fully it gets here by monday tho in time for my post workout shake.

Just out of interest tho, would i be better taking the full 3 scoops if im looking to increase muscle or is 2 scoops enuf?? no point in taking so much if i wont need it, plus it will last longer;) And if im takin it at say, half 8 or 9 at night, would that do as a bedtime meal or should i keep guzzlin down my pint of supermilk before bed at 10 or half 10?

    cheers guys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

before bed i believe the best thing to eat is a protein shake and some cottage cheese, except mix the protein with milk as well because this turns it into a slow release drink throughout ur sleep...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭p-nut

hmm, i cant imagine RAM would taste great mixed with milk?? Wel, mayb the strawberry flavour, but no orange?? But i could be very wrong as i have yet to taste it:rolleyes:

no way i hope not. i bought 2 tubs today of RAM. 1 Strawberry and 1 Orange.

    I open the orange first

I've been using X Ram for a while now, and have just finished my first tub.
I take between 1.5 scoops, and 3 scoops, depending on how active I am during the day (ie, if I cycle to the gym etc..)

I definitely feel the benifits. I'm stronger, and my gf has commented on my muscles repeatedly.

Here's a question though: I do my 30mins cardio after my weights. Should I take X Ram before or after the cardio.. ie is the cardio counted as part of the workout?
