I question my beliefs regularly. Faith without question isn't effective. I believe faith and reason must go together.
sorry, but you're misusing the word 'reason' there, you can't have both. you are welcome to have as much faith as you like though. :)
    Jakkass wrote: »
Its a thoroughly valid point. Do you trust blindly the work of The Reason Project, or The Skeptics Annotated Bible, et al or are you going to study the Bible for yourself so that you actually know what you're criticising effectively?
apples and oranges. the bible is supposed to be the perfect word of god and is not subject to change. project reason & the skeptics annotated bible are totally open and can be scrutinised or edited by anyone with an interest in doing so, subject to peer review and as such are infinitely more trustworthy than any of the many different versions of the bible.
    Jakkass wrote: »
As mentioned already, I see nothing wrong with people questioning their beliefs, indeed I feel I need to examine mine every so often in order to make sure that they are coherent to the living testimony of Jesus.
good for you, so long as you're not taking the bible as the gospel truth with all those contradictions its hardly a reliable source of information to build your whole life around. :)

As for mocking God, you won't be accountable to me for anything. I'm just like you pretty much, the only difference is that I've accepted His grace and aim to live according to His example.
trust me, you are nothing like the vast majority of the people here. :p

Great but you are still trusting them blindly in the absence of personal and individual reading of the Bible. As I've said already, they are not worthy of my response due to the lack of effort. You can google and find how people have attempted to resolve these in a click. Interestingly, when people are asked to put their money where their mouth is and come up with examples such as in the "Contradictions in the Gospels" thread in the Christianity forum, they end up being inadequate.

Edited by anyone != Peer review. This is like saying that Wikipedia is peer reviewed. It is precisely the fact that it can be edited by anyone that is problematic.

    On contradictions, see above.

i was thinking the other day, while looking at a field of virgin snow, that that field was no different from the holocaust of contraception.

think of how many viable snowmen would never gaze out upon that field from eyes of coal. all those hundreds - in that field alone - of snowmen which should have been but never will be.

god must be crying bitter cold tears.

Do you have a "personal and individual reading" of the Rules of the Road, or of the Theory of Evolution, or of the Theory of Gravity?

Or are personal opinions elevated to the status of fact in religion only?

I was kind of involved in some lunatic math stuff a while ago
& found a great skeptical math website as a result of it. The latest
post has a nice religious tinge to it so it deserves it's place here:

From some weirdo to the blog owner:
The Lord has helped me and all I need from you is to
help write a manuscript in math language. I have
developed a new mathematics -1 tangent, very hard to
communicate and very difficult , but by a simple
computer program we have placed and sieved all
prime numbers ( Please examine our site )

. Basically the mathematics creates a tangent over the
original primordial universe , tangents used are 1/6
and 5/ 6 at Inverse 19 and if you can solve
this simple equation a help from my lord from my
lord then work with me. No PHDs
have been able to solve this, and no one has been
    able to understand the
mathematics. My papers were accepted as
assignment by the worlds top Physics
journal , and they said they have a hard time
understanding the tangents, write it better

X- 0.5=(0.5X)/10 ( The lord parted the waters)
What is the rational value of X ( Least whole number ratio)

You may write these papers with us in the grace of
    our Lord Jesus Christ. We
will give you that site if you
acknowledge our Lord Jesus Christ that stilled
    the waters.

    http://scientopia.org/blogs/goodmath/2010/12/02/loony-toony-tangents/
    :D

    Read on for more goodness...

Anyone interested should read the Grandiose Crackpottery
post on that site & check some of the links in the
comments section to find a world of physical & mathematical
delusion including a proof pi = 4, that out physics
textbooks are lying to us etc... :D
