Memories Bridal on Parliament Street were great for me.

They sell secondhand/sample dresses so there's only 1 of each in store - mine cost €795 and they'll sell it on for you after if you want. It was such a lovely experience, I wasn't shown one dress over my budget and the girls were just lovely.

They have one in Cork too but I wasn't in that one.

Many of the larger bridal shops appear to have pretty good websites so you can go online and get a feel for the designers that they stock. Anyone been to tamemmichael....irish wedding designer in ballymount?

She had been to a few bridal shops in Dublin and was treated like just another punter who would wear anything and don't get me started about that bridal shop in Liffey Valley, bunch of b*****s:mad:

    sorry about the rant :)

Is the bridal shop still in liffey valley?

Whats the procedure with them selling it on for you afterwards? Do they pay you then sell it, or you get paid when they sell it, and what price do they offer compared to what you paid them first time for it?

You pay a stocking fee of €30 and they sell at 50% or 60% of the purchase price and then take a commission (I think!). Call them to be sure thought cause I might be wrong!

Has anyone any experiences of Jeutonic in Kilkenny they would like to share?

  • Registered Users Posts: 138 ✭✭missgroovy21

I was in Town Bride looking at bridesmaid dresses and I felt like I was being "attacked" by the man that worked there. He said because we didnt have an appointment we couldnt try anything on (ok fair enough) but he was acting like they were extremely busy when in fact they actually wernt at all. He was very dismissive of us and we just left. Avoid this place if you want good customer service. I got my own dress in Berketex Brides and I couldnt have been happier. I felt like a princess and the girl was great to deal with. She was so funny and kept me at ease. I think when you find the right shop that suits you and the right helper the dress will come.

Try Mozarina in Claregalway, or possibly WeddingWorld in Galway, I don't know what the latter's pricing is like but it's a great shop and the bridesmaids dresses are very reasonable if that's any kind of guideline. Also The Bridal Outlet in Baldoyle in Dublin has reasonable dresses.

Loopy L this thread is for discussion of wedding dress shops, if you know someone who is selling their dress you could put an ad on Adverts.ie on their behalf, we don't permit them on this forum because there are simply too many.

Mozarina in Claregalway has closed down.

Didn't like Belladonna, far too pushy for my liking. Tracy Bridal ok but nothing special.

I'd recommend Dinagh Modes in Castlerea or The Elegant Touch in Castlebar. Both had my dress but went with Elegant Touch as they were cheaper by €200.

I agree with livEwirE "Classy Lass" are brilliant, The ladies are so nice not like some of the snotty women in some of the bridal stores, Im a biker with a couple of tattoos, was very nerves going shopping for a dress, Im not a girlie girl at all, The Ladies in Classy Lass were so helpfulf and I had a good giggle with them, they helped me find my dress and its amazing. . .

I also was lucky to find my bridesmaid dresses across the road in glamour dress. . . she has a fab collection to suit all sizes. . . I wanted something a little different for the bridesmaids as I have 3 girls with very different styles and character. . .

I cannot wait for Our big day in September xxx

    Hope this helps you :)

Stay well clear of belladonna. Went with my friend to pick her, dress and to say we were treated like dirt on her shoe by the blonde one is an under statement. While my friend was trying on a dress we could over hear them absolutely slating a poor girl who was in before us who by all accounts was a larger girl and obviously not good enough to be in their shop. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere.

    hi ladies

can anyone recommend a wedding dress shop for plus size brides? a family member is finding it very hard to get a dress because of sizes.

I got my dress in Ruben Bridal (it's in Calverstown, Kildare). They specialise in plus size wedding dresses and the two women that own it are lovely, so so nice and helpful and they've a great selection. Their website doesn't show everything they have, so they're worth visiting in person.

I just had to vent about a shop I made an appointment for.
    Serendipity Style, Virginia, Co. Cavan.

First of all, was never mentioned that it was someone's garage down an awful road.

    Appointment was made for 11am.
Arrived at 10.55, ringing doorbell of 'shop' and the house for 10 minutes and there was just nobody there.

They have never contacted me to apologise or anything, just didn't bother their h***.
Considering I had travelled halfway up the country, I was absolutely livid.

Delighted in a way as would hate for someone with no manners to get €1K of my cash, especially if they were to be so unreliable.

    Just beware!

On the other hand we went to Erika's in Cavan town instead and had an amazing experience. Erika herself was just a joy to deal with, and has shoes/tiaras/everything you could think of. She even had bouquets of fake flowers to give you an idea of the full look.
We didn't need an appointment that day and weren't tied into a strict hour limit.

I'm fairly certain I've found my dress in Erika's-it's just a matter of choosing between 2 or 3.
Also, the prices put a smile on my face, especially having been to The White Room where I could have bought cars for the prices of their dresses!

Thanks for the tips! I think I've found THE dress :)
Gonna buy it online, for the saving I'm making, I would be nuts not to!

I have to say Town Bride was really great, Aspirations was gick. Not only was the 'shop' horrid, the staff knew damn all.
The lady in the Ivory room was a bit scatty - she didn't help me at all, and kept on putting the dresses that I wanted to try on back up on the rails. She couldn't pin either.

Cathy DeStafford was also good - they gave some great advice in there.

    Hi olaola !

You are so luckyyy ! You will buy it online ? is it not risky ?
I am looking for one dress also.. So stressed !

i got mine at the Ivory Rose Passage West, Co. Cork. They have a great selection of plus size dresses in the shop. it was nice to be able to fit into a dress there and then! other shop i went to i was able to try one dress, and I'm not overly plus sized!

Can really recommend The Bridal Corner on Hart's Corner in Glasnevin. My mother and I were passing and popped in without an appointment and they were very accommodating and welcoming. The staff we're very helpful and picked out loads of suggestions for me when I described what I wanted. I ended up buying the dress there (20% off til the 20th).

Didn't have a great experience in Sharon Hoey's tbh. I felt she was disinterested and quite abrupt. Didn't suggest much or make recommendations for me.

First place I went was barnardos bridal in dun laoghaire. The lady there was lovely, friendly and v helpful. There was nothing there I liked as I had a particular straight style in mind and the stock was mostly the traditional style. Lots of dresses in a size 12 but they do have some smaller and larger sizes. They've shoes and jewellery in stock too.

Anyone heading North I'd highly recommend:

LA Bridal in Carrickfergus and Forever Bridal in Finaghy in Belfast.

Got my dress in LA, but the runner up was in Forever. Both boutiques were brilliant, but LA just happened to have my dream dress.

Felt really comfortable with the saleswomen there, they were very helpful and the opposite of pushy, in fact steering me away from ones they saw I was unsure about, and helping me narrow down choices.

Also tried Jean Miller - sample dresses were tired and shabby like the rest of the shop and nothing stood out of the pile I tried on.

Blush Bridal were very very expensive, but had some lovely dresses.

My friend is a size 14/16 and was curvier when she started her search for 'the dress' - she bought in Marians, Boyle, Co roscommon, and loved every minute, I follow them on facebook and they're really helpful. have a great size range and we loved that they do all things 'wedding' great mother style etc.
    Hope this helps. x K

Anyone have experience with Smart Brides outlet in Portloais?

Just stumbled across them there, their prices look pretty good but they're all samples for sale.

I'm open minded.. if the dress looks good on me I don't really mind if it's a sample!

Most importantly, do not forget that you will wear your dress probably all day long, so you MUST feel comfortable. I made the mistake of buying a dress that was very beautiful, but a tiny bit too long. Almost fell on my face walking down the aisle.

Something else I was told during my fittings is that if you get your dress altered to fit you in high shoes and then you change into flats later on you may find yourself tripping as the dress will seem a few inches longer. I was wearing flats all day (and still ended up in the bare feet) so it was no difference to me, but it's something to consider.

This is why I changed into slightly lower wedge heels rather than flats. When I was bridesmaid the other bridesmaid wore really high heels, then changed into Converse, nearly killed herself falling over the dress all the time. I had my trusty wedges :)

I also got my dress in The Bridal Outlet, couldn't have been happier with it. Well, there was a minor blip when I went to collect the dress but they were very good and efficient about it.
