Powerplays are fielding restrictions in one day matches, where the fielding side must have all their players bar two inside the 30-yard fielding circle (the ring right around the middle of the picth) There are 3 sets of powerplays; 1st powerplay is the first 10 overs, which have to be taken straight away; Powerplay 2 and 3 are two sets of 5 overs a piece, which can be taken at any time by the fielding side, but generally, they choose overs 11-15 and 16-20, to get them out of the way early. In cases like this, you often don't use the powerplay if a spinner is bowling, the spinner or other slow bowlers appear in the 21st over.

Ireland are drifting in the odds market. At the start of the Zimbabwe innings, they were evens, but now they are 15/8. Kinda reflects Zim's run rate.

Way too late with the powerplay info.

    Ireland need some wickets here

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭digitally-yours

they need to scare batsmans there

Zimbawians look very comfortable there and those drop catches definately boosted their confidence

Irish are not changing tactics here

cheers, the older rule seemed fine to me, or change it and only let 2 outside for the whole game? seems a bit over the top to me, its like a pisstake of american sports.
This wouldn't have been the same with these rules:

"we are at the top of powerplay 2 at the moment, the batsman's Holding the bowler's Balls"

I'm not exactly sure of the fielding restrictions but you have to have so many of your fielders inside the inner circle making it easier for the batsmen to hit boundaries. Not too sure how long they've been around. A year, maybe 2?

The term Powerplay has been around a couple of years, but fielding restrictions have been around since the 1983 World Cup. It used to be only the first 15 overs.

We're hanging in there in terms of run rate even if the wickets aren't falling....Raging I dont have sky.

Yeah , its not inducing much confidence though that we havent managed to get anyone out in a good while.

    Evening guys

The game's looking pretty finely balanced.

    C'mon Ireland!

    Mike

With the slowing of the run rate, we need wickets to slow it even further.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭digitally-yours

looks like the game is drifting away from us.This partnership must be broken

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Odds on Betfair are very skewed in Zimbabwe's favour....4 for Ireland 1.3 for them.

This is a pretty conslusive begineers guide for anyone interested http://www.rte.ie/sport/cricket/features/beginnersguide.html

Good to see they've slowed Zimbabwe down, got to keep them on the back foot for the next hour or so and build on that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

Strangle the run rate. Force them to hit out and take chances.

    The wickets will come.

we are putting some good fielding in and staying in touch, 4.6 is what they
need at the moment. do need a wicket soon though.

    ohhh, that was close..

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Keeping them below 100 for the first 25 would be a very good start IMO....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

    Damn... so close.

That has to go to the batsman.
