The Inaugural Cobh Wedding Trail Express Train

A reception for the wedding train begins in Kent station, Cork at 12.30p.m. with the train departing for Cobh at 13.00. This train will serve Little Island (13.07), Glounthaune (13.10), Fota (13.13), Carrigaloe (13.17), Rushbrooke (13.20), and arriving in Cobh at 13.24, on Sunday 29th November.

Croke Park - November Internationals - Press Release

The Republic of Ireland international football and rugby teams will be representing the country against France and Australia respectively on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of November.

The football team will kick off against France at 8pm on Saturday, beginning their attempt to reach next years World Cup in South Africa through the playoffs.

The rugby team will begin their season, and their build up to this years 6 Nations Championships, against the Wallabies on Sunday, when kick off is 3pm.

Patrons Travelling to Croke Park:

All patrons travelling to Croke Park Stadium for the event are advised to utilise public transport and the park and ride facilities. Croke Park stadium is serviced by bus, train and Luas transport facilities.

Patrons who travel by road are advised to travel early to avail of the supervised parking facilities.

There are two supervised car parks available in the vicinity of Croke Park.

1. Clonliffe College, Drumcondra Road 3,100 spaces
(Access from Lower Drumcondra Road) 100 Special Needs Spaces.
2. O’Connell’s School, North Richmond Street. 400 Spaces
(Access from the North Circular Road.) 10 Special Needs Spaces

No Traffic will be permitted to leave the car parks for a period after the games, in order to allow foot patrons leave the area safely.

Patrons should be aware that illegally parked vehicles will be impounded or clamped and will be liable to a fine of €130.00.

Drivers should be aware that illegally or improperly parked vehicles have the potential to cause traffic disruption, obstruction and difficulty to emergency vehicles that may need to access the narrow residential streets that surround Croke Park Stadium.

Patrons are advised to travel to Croke Park via the M50 motorway to Navan Road, Finglas Road, Drumcondra Road. These routes lead directly to Croke Park. Supporters arriving via the M50 /M1 motorways are advised to allow time for traffic delays. Dublin Port Tunnel will be open to all vehicles.

After the game patrons will have the option of travelling the Belfast Road (M1) or on the M50 to the (N2) Ashbourne Road, (N3) Navan Road, (N4) Lucan Road, (N7) Naas Road and (N11) Wexford Road.


Special Needs Parking:

There are no special needs parking facilities on the public streets within the Croke Park cordon area.

The parking facility in Clonliffe College does have a large and very suitable special needs parking facility very close to the stadium. Entry is via Drumcondra Road only. There is a further smaller facility at O’Connells School which is again very close to the stadium.


Bus/Coach Parking:

There is a limited bus/coach parking facility at Mountjoy Square South and East. There will not be any facility for coach parking on Mountjoy Square North or West. Parking will be on a first come first served basis. Ensure that parking regulations are complied with. Double parking of buses will not be permitted. Drivers are also requested to only turn engines when in a position to depart Mountjoy Square.

There is a secondary parking facility at Western Way (off Phibsboro Road). Drivers utilising this facility are also asked to comply with the above requirements.


Park and Ride Facility:

Pre Event Traffic Restrictions:

As with all events at Croke Park, a Garda Cordon will be in effect on the streets that lead to Croke Park. Only accredited vehicles will be permitted to pass by this cordon. All vehicles will be checked for accreditation.

Local residents, their immediate families, local business community are in possession of passes and will be facilitated at the barriers. Passes however do not guarantee entry through the cordon where pedestrian volumes exist.

As a guideline the full Garda cordon will be in place two hours prior to stiles opening time and one hour post event to enable match patrons to arrive and depart safely.


Patron Search:

All patrons entering the Garda cordon will be the subject of a ticket check by Stewards and search by Gardaí. Any offensive articles, e.g. glass bottles, air horns, large flagpoles will be seized. Patrons are advised not to bring any unnecessary baggage with them and are advised to travel early to the stadium to avoid any unnecessary delays.

Public Order.

Patrons are advised that the Gardaí will not permit the consumption of alcohol outside public houses, while walking along the street or in any other public place.

Patrons are advised to be aware of their own personal safety and security while attending the event. They should ensure the security of personal belongings while on route to and from the stadium i.e. purses/wallets/tickets/ Mobile Phones.

Patrons who arrive by vehicle should also ensure that property is not left exposed in parked vehicles. They should ensure that car windows, sunroofs are correctly closed.


Croke Park Hotel Car Park

All residents of the Croke Park Hotel will be permitted entry subject to pedestrian presence at the time and are requested to access the hotel via North Circular Road / Russell Street junction where there will be a register of all guest vehicles.

Maritime Festival Programme

Step off Luas Docklands at the Mayor Square stop and you can hop on board a tall ship and see what life is like on the high seas.The Liffey will be a buzz of activity and the Jeanie Johnston will welcome visiting tall ships.


Enjoy imaginative theatrical performances throughout the festival, entertainment for all the family creating a fun carnival atmosphere. Conor Lambert’s Custard Pie Puppet Theatre will perform four free puppet shows a day in the CHQ building, beside George’s Dock stop to keep the younger visitors amused!


Sing and dance along to funky music acts on two live stages. The Gypsy Jazz Quartet and The Swinging Blue Cats return again and are joined this year by ‘Soul Purpose’ and ‘Roots and Rye’.


Get off at the George’s Dock, Mayor Square or Spencer Dock stops on Saturday, 5th June to watch the annual Docklands Swim from the Sean O’Casey and Samuel Beckett Bridges.

The Festival will also feature outdoor markets with a fabulous selection of crafts, clothing, jewellery, paintings, flowers and plants, as well as the mouth-watering gourmet meats, cheeses and breads.

Bloom is situated on the grounds of the Visitor Centre in the Phoenix Park which is located off Chesterfield Avenue, the main road running from Parkgate Street to the Castleknock Gate.

* From Parkgate Street Bloom is located off Chesterfield Avenue to the right of the Phoenix Monument, after Áras an Uachtaráin.
* From Castleknock Gate Bloom is located before the Phoenix Monument, on the left hand side.

Please note that diversions are in place on the Navan Road between the M50 Junction and the Halway House roundabout. Event Traffic take the slip road over the Flyover after the Petrol Station and turn back along the Navan Road, turning Left at the Auburn Avenue juction and then following the signs to the Castleknock Gate.

How do I get there?
If travelling by foot

Chesterfield Avenue is the Pedestrian Entrance to Bloom. Please note that it takes approx. 20 minutes to walk from either Parkgate Street or Castleknock Gate to the Bloom event.


If travelling by bike

Cycle right up to either entrance to Bloom and avail of free bike parking supported by Bikeweek, 13 to 20 June 2010


If travelling by car

* For City Centre Traffic please use Red Car Park A
* For M50 & North City Traffic please use Green Car Park B


If travelling by private bus/coach

The drop off point for persons travelling by private bus or coach is beside the Phoenix Monument for Large Coaches & at the signposted shuttle drop off (Main Entrance walkway) for Small Coaches, both located on Chesterfield Avenue. (See below for details on parking for buses)


If travelling by public transport

For the most convenient access to the Bloom event please avail of our courtesy shuttle bus running from Heuston Station to Bloom and back throughout the day.

The Red Line Luas runs from Connelly Station and Lower Abbey Street in the city centre directly to Heuston Station.

The No. 10 Bus from O'Connell Street will leave you to the North Circular Road Gate - Please note however that it is approximately 30 minutes walk from the NCR Gate to the Bloom event.

Please note that the Ashtown Gate will be closed for the duration of the Bloom event.

Is there parking available?

Yes. Parking is available for visitors at a rate of €5. There are 2 car parks servicing Bloom visitors; Red Car Park A & Green Car Park B. Please follow the directional signage throughout the park.


Red Car Park A

Serving City Centre Traffic from the Main Gate (Parkgate Street) and the NCRGate. From the Main Gate (Parkgate Street) continue on to Chesterfield Avenue and take the first right off the roundabout. Continue to the end and take a right onto the Back Road and continue straight. Take a left onto Odd Lamp Road. Red Car Park A is located off this road. Do not continue up Chesterfield Avenue to the Phoenix Monument as this is a pedestrian entrance only.


Green Car Park B

Serving North City & M50 Traffic from the Castleknock Gate and White's Gate. From the Castleknock Gate continue on to Chesterfield Avenue and take the first left off the roundabout (Mounjoy Cross). Continue along the back road till you reach the Ashtown Castle Gate. Green Car Park B is located here. Do not continue up Chesterfield Avenue to the Phoenix Monument as this is a pedestrian entrance only.

Is there parking available for Private buses & Coaches?

Yes. Parking for Private Buses / Coaches will be available in the Papal Cross Car Park located off Chesterfield Avenue. The drop off & collection point for passengers will be beside the Phoenix Monument for Large Coaches & at the signposted shuttle drop off (Main Entrance walkway) for Small Coaches, both located on Chesterfield Avenue.


Small Coaches

The shuttle bus drop off point is located on the same side of the road as bloom (the left hand side from Castleknock Gate and the right hand side for Park Gate Street). We would advise all small coaches coming from Park Gate Street to continue up Chesterfield Avenue (past the Bloom site) and turn at the Mountjoy Cross roundabout.


Large Coaches

Due to the size of the Montjoy Cross Roundabout Large Coaches will not be able to make this turn therefore the drop off point for passengers will be the avenue beside the Phoenix Monument.


Is there a separate pedestrian Entrance to Bloom?

Yes. Pedestrians can take a direct route to Bloom from either the Main Gate (Parkgate Street) or the Castleknock Gate via the main road Chesterfield Avenue. Please note that it takes approximately 20 minutes to walk from either gate to the Bloom event.

Special Needs
Access & Car Parking

There will be 2 car parks and 2 entrances to this event. A dedicated parking area for people with mobility disabilities will be reserved in each of these car parks, on hard-standing ground, adjacent to the entrances. If you intend to arrive by car we would ask that you display a disability parking sticker in a visible position so that our parking stewards can see this and direct you to our dedicated parking areas. Please note that bus parking is provided at the Papal Cross, therefore we ask that group arrivals contact us in advance so that we can organise special access arrangements.


Site Accessibility

Bloom is an outdoor event, and it should be noted that some areas of the site may become muddy in wet weather. Facilities for disabled people have been arranged to maximise use of the hard ground that does exist. Where a drop in ground/floor levels exists, ramps will be installed in accordance with disability regulations, so that access around the site is maximised. Stewards will be present to assist people in wheelchairs in the event of emergency exiting.


Sanitation

Unisex wheelchair accessible toilets will be available. These will be located inside the entrance area and in the public catering area. They are strictly reserved for people with disabilities so please inform stewards if you need to use the facilities and your disability is not obvious.


Diabetics

A medical centre will be provided on site. If you require a private space to inject insulin, please call to our medical team where privacy can be facilitated.


Guide Dogs

Guide dogs are very welcome at Bloom, however family pets are not allowed on site.


Asking for Assistance

Stewards and staff at this event are experienced in working at large events and are aware that not all disabilities are visible. However, as some special needs are not apparent, please make a member of our staff aware so that we can assist with your requirements.

GETTING TO THE START LINE:
The marathon and relay begin on St Patrick’s Street at 9am, with the wheelchair marathon setting out a few minutes before that.

There will be major traffic restrictions throughout the city on Bank Holiday Monday, but the general advice is to use the city’s Ring and Link roads when possible. You can drive into the city centre, but allow plenty of time to get to your start line. Contra-flows will operate in the Jack Lynch Tunnel, on the South Ring Road to Mahon and on the South City Link. A full list of roads affected is available on the marathon website (www.corkcitymarathon.ie).

The Park & Ride service from the Black Ash centre, on the South City Link (N27), into the city centre will operate every 10 minutes from 07.30 to 19.15. The service costs €5 for the day. Participants and spectators are urged to use this facility and leave your car outside the city centre. The bus will bring you into the centre, a minute’s walk from the City Hall and a few minute’s walk from the start line.

City and suburban bus services will be restricted because of the race.

Travel - Getting to Cork

Cork is Ireland's second largest city, with a population of about 300,000 people. It is a port city, on the southern coast of the country and has major air, sea, rail and road links.
Air

Cork Airport provides air links with a wide range of Irish and European destinations. The airport is just 8km from Cork city centre and is serviced by taxis and a regular bus service. Bus Éireann provides a regular Air Coach service to and from Parnell Place Bus Station in the city centre throughout the week. Skylink provides coaches departing from Cork Airport every 30mins, connecting with over 30 city hotels, guest houses and city-centre locations.

A taxi from Cork Airport to the city centre will cost approximately €10– €15.

The major car-hire companies are represented at Cork Airport. Avis, Budget, Hertz, IrishCarRentals.com and Carhire.ie.

The "Black Ash" Park and Ride centre will operate into and out of the city centre from 7.30am. We urge participants and spectators to use this facility and leave your car outside the city centre for the day. Buses to Lapp’s Quay, in the city centre, will leave at 15 minute intervals. Lapp’s Quay is opposite the City Hall, from where shuttle buses to the outlining Relay Change-over Points will leave.

4/6/2010 Bus Eireann: Alterations to Monday 7th services in Cork City

On Monday 7th June, Bus Eireann passengers on Cork city services should expect some delays due to the re-routing of services on some routes for duration of Marathon.

* Service 5 to Kent Station, and service 10 to Glasheen are cancelled for the duration of the Marathon.

* Northside Services, 2,3,7 & 8 will operate to a Sunday timetable. Southside services will also depart as per Sunday timetable from the temporary bus stop on Anglesea St. opposite Market Bar.
