Was just curious abut this. I met a girl from eastern europe. She is very hot. I have only met her once. However she comes across as being dodgy. When I ask her where she works she tells me in a bar but she wont tell me which one. She then tells me that she will tell me where she works when I get to know her. She has two mobile phones. The clothes she wears are all desginer and worth alot. She also wears a big dimond ring. Am I being paranoid or is she up to something???

Sounds like a pro****te to me. You dont earn money like that in a bar.

lol, relax OP. My girlfriend (and previous 2) is Polish. She also has 2 mobile phones. One with her Polish SIM, and one with her Irish. She also has 'designer' clothes - the Polish economy isn't the best in case you hadn't heard, and the stuff really isn't expensive there.

Chill out, she clearly wants to get to know you a little better, she's giving you the hints to bring you along "I'll tell you more when you get to know me", so relax and enjoy your time with your new Kochanie!

Now there's a mature post ... Her ring probably isn't diamond btw if it's as big as you say, it's probably a cubic zirconia, or perhaps even glass.

How did you jump to that conclusion from the girl having 2 phones (A lot of Irish people have 2 phones), nice clothes, and a nice ring?

me being narrow minded i guess

Firstly, you've only just met her, she's not going to tell you everything right away.

Secondly, the clothes and the ring might not be real, and if they are, maybe she's worked hard to earn the money to pay for them.

Thirdly, the two phone thing is not bizarre at all.

I think that you might be reading too much into it, but that's up to you.

I suspect she won't tell you because you come across as dodgy. Hell, you're giving me the creeps.

Half the Polish people I know have two mobile phones. It hasn't come up in conversation with the other half.

She's obviously an alien from the future.

All the signs are there. Two mobile phones. Glamorous clothes. Hot (like she represents a few hundred years of genetic advancement).

So probably best that you proceed with caution, unless you feel like being prodded due to invasive alien examinations, in which case, maybe you'd enjoy being tested in her spaceship.

You do if you own the bar. Perhaps she is sick of gold diggers and wants to wait until she is sure of the OP before letting him know of her wealth.

She's a secret agent who uses her powers of seduction to glean classified information from people like the OP.

I bet she turns out to be a pre op transvestite........

She dosent sound dodgy to me. The ring is more then likely fake. Same with her cloths. I have 2 mobile phones, and im not from eastern europe, I must be a pimp or something.

She has more chance of being a alien from the future then a drug mule or a hooker.

My honest guess is she is some sort of dealer or prostitute, the two phones (one for personal calls and the other for buisness) and the fact that she wears very expensive clothes and jewellery and doesnt tell you where she works (its not like your a cop, are you?). Im not being racist, because if she was Irish, I would ask the same questions. This is not normal behaviour.

My other half isn't Irish - She has one phone with her Irish number and another with her 'home' number. I have two Irish phones, both personal numbers, and another phone I use when in her homeland. So there's nothing at all unusual or dodgy about that.

She also wears very expensive clothes and shoes and has similarly expensive designer handbags and accessories. Of course, she doesn't drink much at all and not very often, doesn't smoke, pays very low rent, doesn't own a car etc. She spends her disposable income on looking great - And I won't ever complain about that.

And if anyone ever implies my girlfriend is a drug courier or prostitute because of those things, they'll get a real taste of swift and uncompromising red blooded male justice.

The ring could be either an accessory or an heirloom. Don't be so bloody narrow minded.

If you were worth her time and effort you wouldn't be here suggesting a well presented woman must be dodgy, simply because she has a big ring and two mobiles!

She has only met you once, and as she's hot, and works in a bar, she doesn't want some weirdo knowing where she works, as they'll just drink in the bar she works.

Two phones, one for cheap calls home, and one for cheap calls in Ireland.

And as one of the previous people have said, no car, low rent, sure she'll spend the money on something.

    FFS who does?
how in earth are you to get to know somebody without asking those most basic of questions?

Neither the phones or the clothes/ring would worry me, but she won't tell you where she works? Now that I find dodgy, and thats when you take into consideration the other factors.

I don't think it matters what nationality she is, if someone refuses to tell you where they work I think it's strange, esp if you've been on a date with them, I mean it's usually one of the main topic of conversations when your getting to know someone.

As starting questions they are intrusive. Would you walk up to a bus stop and ask those questions of each of the people there?

As you get to know someone, yes they are OK questions, but not up front.

No its strange to someone from the Irish culture. Here in Spain it is seen to be a little offensive if you ask someone that you have just met what they do for a living.

The reasoning behind it is that in Spanish culture (and I think other places around the med) who you are is far more important than what you do.

    They aint the same thing.

Just a thought but kud well not be the case, my friends in the gardai and whenever he meets people he tells them he's a tiler until he gets to know them a bit better.

And another friend of mine was with an east europian girl who was a detective in her country and she and some others were given a large sum of money by her job to re-locate in ireland after serious threats were made against them. Now i know i wouldn't be shouting about all my business to anyone i met just the once.

Also as were 'getting them out" so to speak, ive 3 phones. one for work, one for play and another for people i know but dont want to have to talk to when im not in the mood but still need to be able to have contact with them like ex partners etc.

Phones are worthless when you upgrade so cant exactly be sold on and i just held onto the sims. 2 meteor (free network txts on one and free network phone calls on the other), and the other is a vodaphone one.

I have two phones, one Irish one and one I used while living in the U.K. for three years. She's probably the same. Also I might be leery of telling a guy I don't know well where I work, there are some weirdos out there. I have been stalked myself before and it's not nice, she might have experience this too.

OP, I think let her go - to someone more who isn't going to meet her once and post on boards whether she can be trusted or not. FFS

Or you can chill and get to know her better before making accusations.

I have three phones. One I use in Boston, one I use in Dublin and one that I have for friends who come to visit from Ireland. I also have a big diamond ring from my ex and I have nice clothes. And no, I'm not about to tell you where I work. Do you see the point OP? Get to know her a bit better before you jump to those conclusions.

Definitely KGB. They use diamond rings as communication devices. Big diamond is another clue that you deal with KGB. We all know they are not very advanced and still build big & bulky devices.

Paranoid?? You were just too naive to get involved in such a big mess! I'm sorry my friend, but it's too late... In a matter of hours she will steal your heart. Literally steal your heart, I daresay.

Hello OP. You are paranoid about this girl. Seems to me she is paranoid about you - she won't even tell you where she works.

Do you wear cheap clothes and tacky jewellery? Maybe she thinks you are dodgy........

But seriously. I worked in bar for a while, and not everyone I met first time would I tell which bar it was. There were some wierdos who would come into the bar then just to see you, when you don't want to see them, and it could make you feel a bit stalked. But you can't ask them to leave because it's a Public House. So, I think it could all make perfect sense that she doesn't want you to know where she works after only meeting you once.

Do her a favour and don't meet her again. You're so worried about her after one meeting that you post on an internet forum for advice.

Well, you just met her. Before that you were a complete stranger? You still are an unknown to her for all practical purposes, so just maybe she is being a bit cautious and not dodgy?

    Lap dancer, tbh.

my friends in the gardai and whenever he meets people he tells them he's a tiler until he gets to know them a bit better.

That's a bit sneaky. You should warn people when they're talking to a garda.

OP, I live in England, I have two phones, one for Ireland, one for England.

When I meet strangers I have no problem telling them what I do for a living but as for exactly where that office may be...it depends on the person.

I can totally understand a girl not saying where she works...especially in bar work! My gf did bar-work as a student and had to leave the pub on her own and walk home at 3 in the morning after clean up and long after all the punters had gone home. She didn't advertise that fact to strangers by naming the pub she worked in.

As for living beyond her means...thousands of people in Ireland own designer gear and all sorts of mod-cons that they can't afford...until the creditors catch up with them.

I think you may be a little paranoid...

I have 2 phones, and my better half wears nice clothes and has some tasteful jewelry. So what..... If I were the girl from the bar and I read this thread O,P I would run a mile. So what- she didn't tell you where she works- so bloody what. I'm abroad often and I sure as hell wouldn't tell anyone where I work, and other than correcting them that I am *not* English, wouldn't tell where I am from either.

Not that I've found so far thankfully. I know people from various places but people from Warsaw generally seem to have the best english. They've spent most of their time in Dublin and have picked up a slight accent and it's hilarious at times, but in a nice way!
