So here's a bit of a vaguely related rant. I'm working at Funderland in the RDS at the moment to get money to pay off the card and get drinking money for when college restarts and I'm getting really p!ssed off with these yobs and dare I say it, members of the travelling community. I'm working on one of the rides and my job is to take tickets and close the bars. Simple enough, can't go far wrong with that.

So why do these people think I just won't notice when they slap my hand and not actually give me a ticket?? Do they think they're so clever that this ingenious ploy to not give me their ticket will work?? Some of them even have the cheek to argue their case - "Oi gay-iv ih too ya mis-thor". So I count the tickets in front of their eyes to prove they clearly didnt give it to me and they're all there nodding at each other and smiling as if their failed scam is actually some good work. Seriously, I can't believe these people actually think they're so big and clever they can just get away with sh!t like this.

    Firstly, what is an ASBO?

    An Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

Secondly how the fck do you define anti-social behaviour? Listening to loud music? Your neighbours hearing you going at it through wafer thin walls? Cheating on your partner? Closing down a factory?

All these things can be classed as anti-social behaviour, but the whole point of ASBO's is to make politicans look tough on crime. It's like putting up CCTV cameras everywhere. It's a cheap quick "fix" solutions for politicans instead of actually policing working class areas properly. But hey, that option is too expensive.

It was in the Guardian recently that anti-hunting activists in Britain had been secretly fliming upper class scum breaking Britain's anti-hunting laws and that they were hoping that ASBO's would be brought against the "elite" of England's countryside.

    Please, please, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D

Well their army is fighting in two war's with an understrenght army......

    DRAFT THEM INTO THE MILITARY!.
In the meantime - a US Marine style boot-camp...without the basic weapons training obviously!

Enda Kenny suggested something similar and got slated over it - McDowell said something along the lines of, 'make them fitter, stronger etc etc then release them back to wreck even more havoc on society'

personally tho, I'd agree with sending them to military camps to learn some discipline!
If you were in charge, what would you bring into practice to crack down on this?

I would make sure that all employers do not hire anyone who has an ASBO. This way they would know that if they act like that, then they have basically ruined their future.

So organising a rave in the UK is seen as an asbo and according to the criminal justice act - a rave is 2 or more people gathered in one place listening to repedative beats

Do you think if a group of mates had a party with 'repedative beats' and the police shut them down and gave them an ASBO, they should not get jobs?

    Get a grip of yourself.

and what about the person who got an ASBO for singing 'Do they know its christmas' over and over.........
Or the woman who got ASBOed for answering the door in her underwear.....

After they could never ever get a job in a society, what would they do?

ASBO's are an absolute load of crap, put forth by middle-aged scared people who don't have a clue whats going on, and feel the best way to solve this is to arrest young people for no reason.

As one Labour MP so eloquently stated, those who oppose ASBOs are:
“Guardian-reading, middle class **** who make a good living from being awkward and don’t have to live in the blighted areas”.

Or...they need tough love, discipline and the chance to find fulfilling work to make a life for themselves....which all takes time, dedicated people and money too.

Whats needed is investment and education, its very tempting to take the shortest route to satisfaction - Lock em up, but they'll come back out far worse, ASBO is just a cheap way of "locking them up", it does'nt solve anything.
    ...
"Jasus Da, you're still in the sack at 11? Get up and get dowm the job centre, I'm not paying taxes for you to sit around all day!"
    :D:D:D

too true, but Bertie, McDowell and co. wont get any political kudos in this election year by adopting a long-term outlook - so they'll just adopt the short-term quick "fix"

I'm all for 12 months compulsory national service for everyone: male or female; scumbag or not. It'd help teach our youth discipline, tackle our obesity problems, improve people's sense of self respect, make our neutrality genuine, reduce college drop-out rates (by forcing a gap year before starting third level and letting people figure out what they actually want to do with their lives), reduce crime rates (both in the short and long-term).

    What's to lose?
