What exactly comes After Hours?

This is perhaps a woefully stupid question, but at this extremely late stage in the morning, the phrase "after hours" has began to puzzle me somewhat. What comes after "hours"? I challenge you to answer that. Perhaps this would be best moved to the etymology/linguistics forum. In advance.

What comes after "hours"?

After hours are the hours after you finish work. Thus they are linked to the time when you play*.

*Either that, or yore ma comes after hours...
