It rarely happens. itd be on something like a car/van and it might have a old reg off a escort or something. not something you would be checking online anyway.
i have no intention of ever checking a reg of a car i amnt buying :)
what i meant was, it seems unusual to have something like the wrong vehicle plate attached to a car.
i think the main reason to change the plates is that if someone does check up on them they dont show up as gov. owned etc
if the plates for a beemer showed up as a transit when checked then surely alarm bells will be ringing for whatever crim. is checking them?

i dont know what garda undercover duty entails but i presume, probably wrongly, that its mostly surveillance and infiltration of gangs.
i hope that the criminals that tax payer money is being spent on in the above way are smart enough to notice a vehicle based surveillance unit and check out any new "recruits" enough to make sure that they arent obviously gardai.

btw, i would rather they were stupid enough to miss all of the above, but then i would hope that the gardai would have a little less trouble actually catching them....

it wouldnt happen like that. a car with false plates is gonna be only for sitting in for surveillance in areas openly public where the surveillance van isnt gonna be noticed as it would just look like a brikkie or tiler or painter or whatever.

If the gardai are undercover, believe me when i say that you or the criminals and even other gardai in the same city wont even know about it.

The undercover cars are D regd, but Ive seen one on a different reg. eg
90 WD 56789. 5 digits for a county which only has at most 4 digits. There used to be an aerial at the rear left panel of any car but the actual antenna was facing down towards the road....
That sounds like a crock on nonsense to me.

what is non sense about what i wrote? Are you saying Im a liar? For obvious reasons I did not quote the number plate I saw but I gave an example. My point being that an unmarked garda car is not always a D reg. In this case the car had 5 digits which I thought looked rather odd. Another example would be 98 S0 846984.

An undercover car is undercover for a reason. It will have absolutely no distinguishing features whatsoever.

For those not sure of undercover - which car in the following pic is an undercover police car?

Make up your mind. Are you talking about undercover cars or unmarked cars?

No garda cars do not have a number plate readers cause that's even advanced for the English police. In other words it will probably be 5 years before the Gardai use them.
