If you have a topic on cars post in Motors. If you have a question about Poker, post there.

The mods have been instructed to move threads to their proper homes as they see fit, to warn persistent offenders and ultimately there will be tears before bedtime.

    Thanks.

    DeV.

ps: there's a whole load of other forums out there in Boardsland. Just thought you should know, like...

It does always amaze how many posters there are who rarely venture outside of the one forum.

This is actually good opportunity for moderators to publicise the forums they look after.

For my sins I look after:
    • Film Production, a place to discuss all aspects of movie making.
    • radio, kind of like television but without the pictures.
    • Transformers for the discussion of all things robotic and shape changing.

Sometimes i'd rather read what the AFter Hours opinion on things are though....
No need to move posts that are attracting the right response is there?
e.g. discussion of a political point in after hours is a whole lot more fun (& just as relevant) as in the politics forum.

Its not just as relevant, politics isn't relevant in After Hours.

sometimes you just want to rant and the politics forum is a lot stricter than after hours. therefore AH comes in handy for thaty type of thing.

Haven't we been saying that forever Tom? You have to wonder how better of boards would be if After Hours, TCN and The Thunderdome were all closed. All the blabbering and nonsense would be confined to the private forums. No more postcount++, and the majority of threads would be where they are supposed to.

I still think repeat offenders of posting the wrong thread in the wrong forum should be banned.

I'd love to see them closed for a week, and when someone clicks on them they get sent to a random forum.

Nah. Then you'll only have random forums flooded with "WTF doodz" threads. Better to send them all to one forum. Recycle Bin, perhaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

Why with all these forums to choose from it's too much to expect us modern irish people who lead hectic lifestyles to post in the right one. I think its best just to post everything in AH and let the assistants (i believe they're called "mods") move it off to the relevent forum if needs be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,208 ✭✭✭✭aidan_walsh

Remove any reference to After Hours from the front page. That should stop the newbies finding it, and force them to look harder to find the proper place to post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭gerire

Should make this the boards homepage then people will be forced to see the alternatives out there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

Ah come on guys. After Hours is what it is. Just there for random garbage. I post occasionally in after hours, a lot in fitness and some in martial arts. I also occasionally venture into PI to offer people the wisdom i have learned through all my fcuk ups.

The simple fact is, that in the specific forums the Mods could not really allow the type of carry on that happens in AH and there would most likely be an increase in bannings.

After Hours is the play ground for the little tykes of boards.ie.....take it away and they won't sleep at nap time. :)

Boards would be absolutely shíte if those forums were removed.
I don't feel like having dead serious completely factual discussions the whole time and I certainly have no interest in the crappy themed private forums where some people like to spam.

Start with moving to correct forum, thread locking/binning then move to banning, then sitebanning, [STRIKE]then sending vigilantes to their houses[/Strike]? Seems fairer, at that stage you can't whine in feedback saying you weren't warned. :)

Have to agree with the others, AH etc are necessary fora and allow users to post tongue-in-cheek :)

Actually we have other forums for that already.

After Hours exists for legacy reasons only. It was created to pull all the offtopic stuff from the Quake forums back before boards had the volume or system it has now.

Doesn't really matter. The genesis of something is not really whats in question here....it seems to be that After Hours is drawing traffic from other forums and giving mods extra work?

You can only really consider what it is, not what it was.

No, I'd still consider myself a bit of a newb and my point was only that I find it amusing that someone who has only been here a year is calling the AH users "little tykes" or implying that it is some sort of Boards playground for the newer users, when you're relatively new yourself.

Every forum has a "General" or "Off Topic" forum, AH is Boards.ie's one and I would consider these General/OT forums a necessary part of most forums that I've used/I use. They're also not just where the newbies post, on most forums I visit anyone posts in the general forum and its not considered the newbies hangout or whatever.

You need somewhere where you can talk ****e, otherwise you'd have a build up of ****e in the general population. People that are full of ****e band together and form uncontrollable mobs lead, more than likely by super ****e talkers the likes Jerry Ryan or Joe Duffy. Is that what you want a super dictatorship run by those two muppets!

I hate having to explain myself, because it's the kind of thing that never really happens when you talk face to face, which i have been assured still happens!!! :)

Anyway, i was not implying that After Hours is for boards newbs, nor that everyone who posts here is a newb. I was merely making reference to the fact that After Hours users normally have that certain sense of humour the might not always go down the best in other forums.

For example, we sometimes have threads about world incidents, and you can be just a little funny about things while discussing it. After Hours being what it is people let it happen, the PC brigade does not come out and say " You can't say that....blah blah blah".....generally speaking it is for me the right blend of humour and seriousness that you need to have somewhere i.e at least one public forum on a site.

I think if you shut down AH, the people who normally post the very After Hours flavoured posted will merely do the same in other forums where it might not go down so well?

I hope thats coming across okay? To be honest i hadn't even thought of the whole "little tykes" thing as coming across to imply i thought people were newbs....i guess i don't really apply every word of someones post to some invisible graph of what some users might think of as a "hierarchy"?

Last time i checked everyone is just a poster, and whether it's Cloud or someone else first post i will give that persons post the same weight, provided there not just talking crap. ;)

I have been known to venture out of AH once in a while

I mostly just read board's and barely bother to contribute when I have to time in work..like if i read politic's or humanites and don't contribute it's none of your ****ing business

Jesus if your expecting people to actually put effort into it

If CSG ends up in the Economics form, because she are trying to prove that she isn't a narrow-visioned spam-whore (not calling her a whore), then I will be mad.
I don't want to come in tomorrow, and find a thread on "Which famous economist have you slept with"? or "we need more kids, so single mothers are a good thing. For the economy. Right? Right?!!".
Not to mention all her little stalkers that will follow to slag her off. I don't think we need people giggling about the shape of our cost-curves.
