When my aunty was a kid about 30 years ago, she was sitting up on the hills in fairview park just beside the tolka with her friend, both of them were 7, some randomer man walked up to her, asked her the time, and when she replied 6pm, the man doused himself in lighter fluid or something and set himself on fire.

They have to be mentally insane.

'Cause doing stuff in a shop is all the range now.

God love whoever was on hygiene duty that day...

When you decide to kill yourself, it's not always planned. It probably took him in the moment and he cracked.

    EDIT: Insane in the membrane!

Incinerating yourself as a form of suicide shows a tremendous amount of self loathing and possibly guilt....I mean as a cry for help, it's over the top, no matter if you live or die you're f*cked, the act makes a very lasting impression on anyone who witnesses it and the pain involved before death, which at 90% burns is moreorless inevitable, depending on the degree of depth, is intense.

The guy is either a substance abuser or has done something to someone that he can't take back.

I'm all out of wisecracks on this one. Horrific.

Apparently he was a 20 year old Pakistani guy who just moved over from England about a month ago and had been living in Killester.

I lived in Killester for a year at one stage... it's really not that bad.

I read in the paper that they had to bring in counsellors after it happened for customers and staff that saw it, not surprising. Got to say that I think it was very, very selfish of him to do something like this in front of other people and especially children. He was in the Toy dept ffs. And what if the shop had caught fire from him? What if he'd been near the clothing or the magazines (both would burn very quickly) and it set that alight and hurt someone else?

If your about to barbeque yourself im sure your not going to worry
about burning down the clothing department. The guy was obviously
deranged. What i would like to know is what made him do it.
He may well have had a mental disorder before he came to Ireland.
    Ireland cant be that bad.

    Hah.

Still, this thread is nowhere near as bad as the Egging thread.

    nutcase.

imagine stacking shelves in tesco, thinking what a boring job this is, then a guy walks in and sets himself on fire

there's easier ways to kill yourself.

this reminds me of 'the hills have eyes'. (film) where a guy is captured by loopers, chained to a pole and set alight in front of his family.

also, in saw 2 i think, one of the guys is trapped in a cremation thing and is burned alive.

in final destination 3, paris hilton & her buddy get trapped in sunbeds and also burn alive.

i'd hate to die that way. the pain would be unbearable and i'd imagine yes, it would be worse being 90% burnt and living than 100% burnt and dead.
