I would imagine it's Frenchs Mustard because that's the one they put on the tables. Any deli mustard will do though.

I always thought Eddie Rockets mustard tasted like dog-bile and now I know why. Its like that marie-rose sauce they used put on prawn cocktail, made with ketchup and salad cream. Bleurrggghh.

I know its mustard and mayonnaise, but the question is which mayo and which mustard.
Its not quite as simple as any ol' mustard!
Oh the trials. The neverending , million-dollar question; the solution of which would make my life complete.

What you need to do catho, is get a job there and ask to be put on the mustard detail...
or sleep with an existing employee, make sure he has the info you require first though!

I'm not sure about that Eck, the skies the limit when trying to uncover the secrets of a fine mustard.
I think catho will just have to take it for the team.

i think i may be able to ascertain this information without having to do either, missy.
i'll try the powers (of what, im not sure) i usually only keep for barmen (who can provide me with free booze) on some of the waiting staff. if only they were'nt all girls and unable to speak fluent english.

    hmmm...
    im going there tonight,
    will report back asap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭catho_monster

So I went in, on my mission.
    a) my waitress was new and didnt even know what burger sauce was and had to get help to even take my order.
    b) OMG. they have changed their menu, to include the specification that it is Ed's secret recipe. ITS NOW A SECRET RECIPE. ffs.
I was too intimidated by their new policy to start fishing around.
    The mission never ends though.
I will not sleep until this secret is un-secret-ed.

    There is none.
    Why you ask?
Cos she didn't take my very good advice and sleep with the waitress...

    zero marks for performance Catho.
I'm disappointed in your lack of committment.

So I was in TGI Fridays the other night,
and had chicken dipper thingys served with a honey mustard dip which tasted suprisingly like Eddies burger sauce.
Now it wasnt grainey honey mustard. It looked yellow, like Eddie's...
    And it was mayo based.

So honey mustard and mayo = Eddie's burger sauce?

I think we may be on to something here... but i dont recall seeing yellow honey mustard?!?!?!

I used to work in Eddie rocket's when i was in school. I know what kind of mustard they use.......

it's the cheapest kind. The one that comes form the wholesalers in a big bucket.

    mmmm big bucket of mustard!:)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 42,362 Mod ✭✭✭✭Beruthiel

And the name of this big bucket of mustard would be....?

would it have been Blenders - sunburst logo IIRC ?

I love that sauce, and I would really like to know what mustard it is. It's so good in the chicken fillet burger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I think a clue might lie at the bottom of the Eddie Rockets menu.
There, among the Budweiser and other logos is a "Rich Sauces" brand that I've never heard of....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

There's a restaurant in town that serves a lovely dip sauce which is French's and Heinz' ketchup mixed. I think aprox equal amounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

    From: http://www.richsauces.com/cool_range.htm
    Mustard Mayonnaise
A fabulous mayonnaise, rich and creamy with the tang of Swedish Mustard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

tried mixing french's mustard and hellmann's mayonnaise there a couple of weeks ago, tastes pretty much the same as the eddie rockets burger sauce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

But mustard is yellow and mayo is white.

    And Eddies sauce us green.

I think it has a pickley taste, so if the Frenches and Hellmans doesn't work out, I'm going to blend some pickles and ad mayo.

    Interceptor .... foodstuffs.

OK. But its a harmless protein and it tastes like sushi. Well, kind of like sushi. Well not really like sushi. Sorry....

"the secret ingredient is... love?! whos been tampering with this thing"

but that aside , i would love to know exactly whats in this too , i suspect still that any strong deli mustard with some mayo will get the job done , maybe a hint of ketchup too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Got a jar of, I think its Heinz Burger Sauce at home. Fookin great stuff. Make burgers taste just like Mcdonalds or BK. Nice

Hellmans do an excellent burger sauce too. They arent a new concept, they've been around for years. Actually, a little burger sauce, French's, and Hellmans mayo mixed together is a simply class dip for chips/wedges too. Be still my grumbling stomach.......:D

So does anyone have the secret recipie or a tried and tested mehod that makes a fairly good version of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,828 ✭✭✭ven0m

Having worked in Eddie Rockets in Tallaght many years ago not long after it opened on the grill & in food prep, I can confirm when i worked there - the 'secret sauce' was Blenders Mayonaise mixed with an American mustard also provided by Blenders.

The cheese sauce for those who care, was this giant can of 'American Redwood Cheese' type gloop (that when emptied from the tin kinda slurped it's way out in a creme-caramel-esque way into the vat we mixed it in), that was mixed with one & a half cans worth of milk, & the whole thing mixed by hand with a giant whisk ('the whisk of doom' as some bugger in there called it - cos your arms f**kin killed after using it!!!!)

Any other Ed's secrets anyone needs, PM me ....... :D:D:D:D

Is it an equal mixture of both mayo and mustard??

    lizt wrote: »

I think it was a 5KG bucket of Mayo & a 1KG plastic jar-bottle thing of the mustard as best I recollect.

We used to make the garlic mayo using Blenders Mayo back then before they decided to just buy it in pre-made.

Not to deviate too much off it, but I'll never forget when they went from us making the burgers into patties to the patties coming in pre-made, or the discovery that the chili came in in huge buckets pre-made from the South Anne Street branch (all the chili back then was made there, cooled & dumped into giant buckets, almost like those giant beer buckets from home brewing kits) & delivered to the franchise stores once a week & then placed in the cold rooms.

Best thing about working in Ed's back then? being able to knock in any time we liked for free food LOL ..... made my college days far more bearable ROFL

It's also common on mainland Europe, it's a blend of spices with paprika, onion salt IIRC amongst others. Some of the East European food shops might have it. I get mine from Germany, keep an eye out for a spice mix called Gewurz Salz. Yummeh :D
