Trying to get 3 freindlies organsied so for the moment we have none.

I will try get Coldcut 11 a side astro pitch for an hour next week and if we get 20ish we be laughing for a decent session (ie game between ourselves) Give sean the chance to form some sort of 11 and some sort of game plan.

    Whos in ?

Coldcut is far away for you, its beside Liffey Valley in D22. Im sure we can arrange maybe one of the townies to pick up the northsiders in town?

I carless for well pretty much forever and no intention of changing that.

If there's a lift going, I'd deffo take it, but otherwise, 'tis the bus.

I can play any night but Thursday, or Friday, oh, and the weekend.
So just Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday...maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

I'll play any night especially if their is a lift going around Artane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,785 ✭✭✭Nuttzz

would it be possible to have a few a week, e.g. tuesday & thursday and the odd saturday? the more time we spend together before the season starts the better, also some people might not be able to make it on some particular night be could make it on a different night, also more training is good for us gentleman of ehhhh a larger standing :D

You're better off setting aside a regular night every week or fortnight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 468 ✭✭MrJones

i'll come along to next week's training. where is it going to be? i'm northside.

One night a forthnight is not going to be enough in fitness terms at all, also, playing together is very necessary to have any kind of decent team.

I would say once a week is the minimum, preferably twice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,244 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

I think Mondays are the best as it doesnt clash with anything (EL, CL, PL etc). We could train mondays and thursdays till the season starts then train monday, play thurs.

As for lifts, I could pick up a few northsiders in town if needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

I guess we shall just have to wait for the Gaffer to get online and let us know when training is then!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,970 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

i like the idea of once durin the week and once maybe on the saturday as well. most people im sure could make at least one session that way. it is important to get to know everyone. as for fitness, if ur that worried go for a run every night.

ha ha i expected that sort of response. seriously though i think 2 sessions a week could be organised and everyone get to at least one. oh and maybe just a session where we sit down and go through each others names. i remember none from last night.

Told my friend about this and he wants to sign up too, €100 etc is fine for him, he'll be at the next friendly/traning. He's a good player and can play anywhere really.

What is the proper foot wear for astro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Yeah, I think we need to have as many friendlies and training sessions as possible, because their will always be some people that can't do monday but can do tuesday and vice versa.

I should be fine for any evening next week really, although would like to head to the Drogs game on Thursday night.

Mid Week = games saturday = kickabout.

That seems to be the consensus.

Have 3 games lined up just waiting on others to confirm dates and times hopefully one each midweek leading up to season start.

I'd like to meet up on Tuesday of this week if we have a game on Thursday. Maybe something like waht we did last night, but I'll step out and have a proper look, especially if new people come.

Or, what about Sunday, we could do it late afternoon / early evening.

    That suit?

Northsiders, if you can get to Conolly Station, get the Number 90 or the Luas to Hueston, it's about a ten minute walk into the Wellington thingy from there.

I can't do this Sunday. Next Sunday would be ok though.

Thats a lot of effort that i proably wouldnt do myself so wouldnt ask others too, its gonna get dark early real soon we have to Block Book an astro pitch or 2.

need a decent balance maybe book somewhere on northside for training.

Lol could say Collinstown in D22 as its quite literally over my back wall :d buts that unfair.

Cmon Sean thinking cap on :)

I know of two Northside Astros, the one near me in Coolock, or one way out in Portmarnock.

Phoenix Park wouldn't be bad for meeting in early-ish on a Saturday or Sunday.

Weekends are a no no for me kids and this Pro Evo thing but that would be the best time for proably most.

I can see training becoming some sort of a problem.

Sean you got MSN or IRC abilities?

I would prefer Monday, Wedensday, Friday and Weekends. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I can't get a lift but if anybody can tell me exactly how to get there I could come down the other 2 days. I get lost very easily.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

You say you're coming from Artane?

Come with me, I'm in Coolock, so we'd be getting the same bus to town.

Yeah that sounds grand I was going to ask you that as I live just down the road from Coolock astro park.
    Cheers.

It looks like we're at the stage where some people are gonna be left unhappy with the day, time, venue etc. It's up to the management boys to make a decision and the rest of us will just fill in around it.

I think it makes more sense to get it sorted as early as possible so everyone can make travel arrangemants and that.

We play matches midweek, the league will give us a day tue wed or thur, El fans dont do friday.

    We train saturdays.

To me thats the best way of doing it. As it covers everyone, the league is a midweek one so thats part of the signing up thing.

Saturdays or Sundays are the only option tbh.

It means people don't have to commit to two nights a week. It's hard enough getting one night free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

I think you should book the astro pitch for one night and just say right its on this day if you can make it reply on this thread only. You are always going to have people that can't make it so just pick a day and stick by it. (unless their's not enough people:D )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

if its sat or sun it be day time so no need for astro altho it would help as we play on it and not the pheno with its mad hills.

St.Annes is nice there is always a free pitch and no hills. Also Fairview park could be good there are a few pitches there. Just throwing names into the hat Although St.annes has very good pitches IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭Serbian

Personally, these times are looking good for me. Training shouldn't be a problem as long as it's reasonably easy to get to, Phoenix Park & St. Annes both suit me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,244 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

If its going to be weekends then sunday afternoon would be best for me. I work some saturdays, but only till about 12, and play football from 5:30 -6:30 .I play at 7:30 on sundays but aslong as we finish by around 6 i should be grand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

There are astro pitches in DCU's sports ground on the Ballymun road on the Northside, which arent far from me, nice and handy to get to.

Of course, name the times and the places and I will be there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,373 ✭✭✭Dr Galen

this week i can't make Tues, or Fri. Possible on Thurs as I'm only working til 1930. Weekend will be fine. Coming from Kilmainham so close to the city and buses out to anywhere really.

On a side note anyone else around my area?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,263 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

Although I do go to college in DCU, it would be a 1.5hour trip home and then
another 1.5hr trip back into DCU. Not getting my vote ;)

Lads I'm coming from Tallaght (think there is a few coming from here), the Phoenix although its not on my doorstep is about as far as I can make it. No disrespect to the lads from the north side, but talk of having training in Anne's is a bit much.

We could do with a few games on the full size Astro pitches, theres a nice one down in the Iveagh grounds, plus another down in Marlay Park.

We need to have a proper training session, and as Xavi already said we need to get know each others names. Gaffer get practicing on championship manager!!:)

TBH phonix park is a pain in the ass to get out to for northsiders it involves getting 2-3 buses and walking for about 10-15 and then when you get there having to run down hills chasing the ball. I don't mind its just a real pain but willing to do it for the good of the team and so should you:) .

I'll be coming from Bray myself with a friend. I think somewhere etween North and South would be the best. The matches will be in Rathfahrnam anyway so that's a lot more south, will this be a problem for the people who will have difficulty going to the Phoenix etc for training?

No it should be alright for me anyway (if the gaffer knows the way) we live close to each other so we are going to make our way down together, he says he knows the way.
