I always do. And then say what the price was and watch them go green!

I buy 90% of my clothes in Penneys. Its quite possibly my favourite shop. I love the Henry St store as its so big and stocks a much greater variety of clothes than the smaller regional stores.

i cannot go into town without going to pennys...
    love it..

As i say when people ask me where did i get my clothes: "pennys best"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Deer

Their knickers are great. I bought a bucket load of really pretty ones the other day.

And the kids clothes are the best ever - you can outfit your kid for the entire season for about sixty quid. Laughing!

what does anyone think of their footwear? good or bad?

Lasair that's what my daughter always says "Penneys Best"

Deer the knickers are great - I love the little cute boxer style ones. I spend ages in the knickers department. I have so many I think some of them I haven't worn yet!

Also the kids clothes are great too. Where else would you get jeans for €5 for your child. They have lovely combat style pants in now for boys.

There are people though who'd be too snobby to wear Penneys. Myself I couldn't give a care and its good for the bank balance too.

Busterpuss I haven't got shoes there in a while but any time I did they were fine. I got wedge shoes and some heels there which were fine. Never bought runners there. Not a great shoe selection down here though..

Will have to get up to Dublin for xmas and do a big shop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Busterpuss

i got a pair of boots there once and wedges and they were both fine but havent really branched out into shoes or that. i think i only wore the boots twice tho.

you have to come up for a xmas shop its brilliant!! mary street and henry street ;)

lovin the boxer knickers as well:p

I love Penneys too, their t-shirts are great, you buy 4/5 for €20, leave them in a drawer for 6 months - a year, take them out, and you'll realise that they're actually "cool" now! Penneys are always ahead of fashion :P

I own 4 pairs of Jeans.
    one Tommy Hilfiger - Present
2 Pairs of identical Penneys Jeans - €15 each
    1 pair of Sonnetti Jeans - €60

The ones i wear the most, are the Penneys ones, they actually wear really well, i don't like "fresh-looking" jeans, so the fact that they're not "titanium-woven" means that they wear down nicely.
Saying that doesn't mean that they're poor quality. I've had them for almost 2 years at this stage. They fit real well too.

Also, someone asked where CS-Active is---yup, its Penneys
They're hoodies are amazing value, usually about €16. You can get 3/4 good quality, nicely styled Penneys hoodies for the price of a hoodie from River Island.

I hate pennys. Now maybe the stores in places other than the one in Cork might be of a better standard but the thought makes me shudder.
You look around town and see the same Pennys bag on about 12 different girls.
The last time I was in there I was looking for some summer tops. The place was over crowded with overweight middle aged ''knacker'' women with short bleached hair. [Haha, maybe that's going too far but it certainly seems to be an attraction for that ''catagory''.] Anyway, all I saw was lots of tops covered in makeup stains and they were really cheap and had no shape when I tried them on.
Every bra I ever bought in Pennys lost its shape in the wash.
That said, I've bought a black pair of pants about a year ago for 18 euro and still wear them today. A random bargain.
I just think it's a horrible, cheap place with only a few exceptions. Most of the time cheap price means cheap quality and more importantly not unique in any way. I like having clothes that no-one else has seen before so I'll give Pennys a miss agin next time I go clothes shopping.

Penneys in Kilkenny & Waterford are good but Carlow is definitely worth a look if your ever there. It's a huge store (used to be old Tesco & Quinnsworth before that), so has separate depts - ladies, homeware, seasonal, etc. Never seems that busy either, so often able to find stuff in colours/sizes they have sold out of in other stores.

ye i discovered myself that penneys was a diamond in the dirt about a year ago....top quality stuff at great prices!! im always wearing there combats, and my mates are sayin "so where did you get your combats theyre really nice", i have a bit of fun:D..."in BT2, only €90!!"....they believe me straight away!! then when i tell them its penneys they are amazed..

    i love penneys:)

B******t, Penneys is muck, especially with jeans/trousers i can tell straight away whether there decent or not, the cut gives it away immediately.
Sorry but Penneys is cheap crap. nuff said

Their shoes arent great, but for summer they had gorgeous sandals and flip flops for only 3 euro. I got them and they're fantastic. I walked miles in my flip flops on my holidays and they are still as good as new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 237 ✭✭Cardinal

I bought a shirt for work once in Pennys. Never again. There's no way I could get one to fit me in there. Maybe if you took four inches off my height and stuck it on my waist. Not only that, but the cut is all arse-ways. The buttons aren't in a straight line and the collar is some weird shape.

I know lots of people think Pennys is great but I can't see why. Sure it's cheap, but it's cheap for a reason.

Same. I had got a pair in Monsoon for about 6 times the price walked in them for about 1-2weeks, they were in shreds!! Pennys is good for tops and things. Their shorts are brilliant aswell!! They even got the quick dry ones which are really handy. I really like their belts, but I agree. I don't like going around town and seeing a good few people wearing the same thing as me. So I just customise things I buy. It's not that hard and they turn out great(most of the time:o ).

As another poster said it's great for when you're going on hols. I always do it. 80-90 euro is all you would pay for everything. Going for a week away soon and I'm going to get my boyfriend to do the same! I get ALL my socks in penneys. Love them

I love pennys for stuff like t-shirts because they are trend drivin and still only cost E4 and once the trend is worn to death you dont feel guilty for not wearing in anymore! :D
That being said, I wouldn't buy jeans there anymore. I wear jeans the whole time and the last pair I got in pennys were a bad cut and didnt last long.

i am of the exact same opinion as you.i find the clothes horrific quality and they shrink constantly. the also lose there shape really quick.and as you said everyone has everything from the shop, you cant go in and buy something and not see it on fifteen other people,i also despise the way they rip off EVERYTHING,every brand and every trend so every single person is wearing the exact same cut off tights with those gladiator sandles and fake american eagle hoodies..ugh. Id occasionally go in and buy bobbins or socks, but i bought a pair of pumps there and i dont have smelly feet at all but they stank after like two weeks of wearing because they were so ****e.

Ya get some grand stylish gear there for anything from 3 to 15 euro. Only bad thing s sometimes theyll ruin a perfectly good shirt by having a white bit attached to the neck area, making it unwearable tbh.

The amount of times ive seen people on the rob at Penneys in Blanch. Ffs if i was of the thieving persuasion id rob gear that costs more than 3-12 euro :D

To be fair, it says on the label on the bra that the bra should be handwashed!
I don't understand people complaining that other people have the same clothes as them. Sure isn't that the way 'trends' are, look at the trend of stripes and polka dots- they're in EVERY clothes shop, not just Penneys.

The clothes in Pennys are cheap but they also look and feel cheap. I reccon if i wore clothing from there it would bring me out in a rash just before it fell apart. I think if you have the money you should respect your body by not concealing it in cheap clothing.
If i buy one good quality item and get alot of wear out of it then that is much more cost effective than lots of cheap things i would wear once at most.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

I just got 3 tops for work in Penneys for 19 quid. None of my clothes from there have ever fallen apart. I own loads of skirts, some are really expensive and have fallen to bits but my favourite is my Penneys one for 7.50. I wear it loads and I love it.

That is just a completely snobby attitude. A rash?
That saying- 'knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing' comes to mind when I read your post.

Why would you only wear them once? I have trousers I bought in Penney's 2 yrs ago and they still look fine. As others said here, I get people asking where did I get such and such a cool / nice top or scarf etc. They're amazed when I tell them where and how much.

Pennys are great for cheep casual wear - tshirts and other casual tops, pyjamas, bags, etc. Got a great denim jacket there in a sale a year ago for 8 euro. Padded too, so it's really warm.

Wouldn't find them good if I wanted something a bit nicer - blouses, work trousers, dresses.

"Pennys Best" - LOL. In my day it was "Dunnes Best". Dunnes are great too, and you get the nicer stuff there and it's not too expensive.

Funnily enough, I find the opposite in Pennys for getting things to fit me. I'm usually a size 12 in Dunnes and other shops. Pennys size 12 tops are okay, but jeans size 12s barely go up beyond the knee. Dunno why.

I've bought 100% silk scarves in penney's for something like €3, and pure lambswool sweaters for €11. How is that bad quality? It's a lot better than paying €100+ for a sweater in BT that's cotton and has no warmth for winter, but has a little red and white tab on it to justify the price. Quality is determined by the materials the garment is made from, not the name on the bag when you buy it.

Love Penneys for their underwear and pjs! The selection in their portlaoise branch is pretty bad but i was in the Henry street branch the other day and was very impressed with theirs. Got a nice casual winter jacket, a really nice sweater, a really funky tee shirt and about 12 pairs of socks for under €40! I don’t like their ladies jeans though the cut can be really unstylish and a bad fit.

    Penneys=Disposable clothing

they're alright for things like socks, but even they fall apart really easily!!

I'm not a fan of Penneys....the clothes are so cheap looking and EVERYONE wears them! I buy things like socks and pyjamas in Penneys because they don't last anyway. I'm actually quite surprised that so many people like Penneys!
