I just spent the last few weeks selling my house and moving from philly to Austin, Tx. It's nice having money in my bank account. Austin is infinitely better than the East Coast.

    20MPH!?

Clearly the Segway is the real man's mode of transport! :D

I'm sure the boy racers could get an extra few mph out of it too, a few racing strips and you're all set. :)

The only place you walk in Austin is 6th St. :D

Ah 25 cent shots...those were the days...

You got out of Philly just in time, man. It's been 95-99 (36-38C) the last few days and humid as all f\/ck. It's like living in Satan's underpants.

Anyone remember the dudes (or more likely dude with two accounts) who came on Commuting/Transport one day with a thread something like
"Have you seen these new Segway things around Dublin?"
and kept going back and forth with things like:
"Why those Segways look so cool and fun. Are they safe?"
"I hear they are perfectly safe. And they make girls like you!!"
"If only there was somewhere I could learn more about these wonderful Segway things!"
"Funny you should ask! I've been checking out www.segwaysarefordudeswithbigwillies.com for all the latest Segway news and information!!!"
    like a message board informercial.

They both had www.segway.ie in their signatures which gave them away just a little bit. I think they got banned.

I'll tout for segway if they give me a free one.

Hey who started this talk of segways anyway, hmmm... <suspicious>

I must not have captured how blatantly obvious they were about it. I'd do a search if I could be arsed. Even if they hadn't links to some segway place in their sigs, it was obvious.

actually, 15 minutes to downtown in a scion tC doing 70mph.

the 15 minute trip to the lake was in a jeep wrangler on some twisty roads

yeah, i was talking to my parents today. 115 with the heat index. austin is more of a dry heat. it's still 98-100*f everyday, but it's more manageable

Dude - Fadó has been there a few years now. Was there back in '97 & spent a very drunken evening drinking Jamesons & playing chess with a crazy chick with lightning strikes tattooed all over her - including her hands, neck, face, ears - the lot! She had a dog in her handbag too. But she was no Paris Hilton. ;)

Have you been out to see the bats flying down by the river yet? An amazing sight!

Aye I was in Fadó back in 99 and 2000...the barman was from balbriggan, stood our party a few free shots....it's looks like it's been done up since then. Usualy I avoid irish pubs like the plague when I'm overseas but the american girls we were with wanted to see what it was like.
As for the heat, yeah desert heat is a lot more manageable....I stayed down on the coast most of the time, where the humidity was a lot higher, but there was always a good breeze in off the gulf.

    Jaysus DB - Chill out!
You've been keeping your head down & it was nice & harmonious.
All of a sudden it pops up & you come out with that sh1te to kill the nice atmosphere in this thread.
I've stood up for you a couple of times recently, but I'm p1ssed off now.
I don't know if it has escaped your notice but there's a few of us enjoying a virtual "natter" about Austin & what's going on there.

Why don't you amuse yourself by starting a new thread "Why do some fcukers use AH as a personal blog?"
That'll keep the pedants busy for a while.

why do Irish people take foreign holidays and then spend all their time in Irish pubs?
isn't the idea of a holiday to get away from it all?

Hey ya pvt.joker. Pighead lives near a village called Bradstown (Brad being a predominantly American name) and your living in Austin (Predominantly Irish Name). Have you any explanation as to why cross atlantic name swaps seem to have radically increased over the past 7 years?
