The only programmes in the top ten for RTE 2 are it and Lost everything else is World Cup

That's very good in terms of ratings then!

Let's not kid ourselves, it was never gonna score better ratings than the World Cup.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

Yeay it did okay, but not as good as Lost or Desperate Housewives when it first started and Prison Break had a lead in of 539,000 from the World Cup.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭fobs

But LOST was more heavily advertised at the start than Prison Break as if I hadn't been reading about it here on Boards I wouldn't have heard about it at all. Also the fact that the World Cup matches are running late and people who don't watch the world cup would be pissed off with the schedule changes it is doing quite well.

I hope it catches on because it is a great show. I am surprised it isn't doing better. It got just as much promos as Lost when it started last summer.

I wouldn't have even thought about watching it if it weren't for Basquille! From hearing about it here, I thought it would be worth a watch. And, man, was it!

Problem is, IT'S SUMMER. People don't want to watch tv while it's still bright and sunny as it makes them feel guilty.

Yeah.. i endure all that crap to bring you the the nuggets of TV gold! :D

But 'Prison Break' was the best US show of last year.. without a shadow of a doubt in my mind!

Yeah, you're pretty damned good on the TV show spot and this is from someone who has a pretty damned good idea where to begin in the first place. I've watched "Saved" on your say-so and await you to wade your way through the crap of forthcoming pilots to get us the best (start with "Eureka" and tell us how it is!).

Agreed - very consistently excellent. I started my bf watching it there and, initially, he was sceptical. By last night, as he watched the finale shortly after he started the series, he was entranced. Hopefully it'll get more recognition as it's far more deserving than the hyped "Lost" has proven to be this year.

Yep.. have 'Eureka' ready to watch but it's so difficult to tell the promise of a show based on a pilot. Truth be told although i really liked it, the 'Prison Break' pilot didn't exactly grab me as much as the show did a couple of episodes in.

Suppose they all can't be as promising as the 'Lost' pilot...!

If you're looking for an excellent pilot, start off with "Traveler" I made a topic about it in the television forum. I haven't heard 1 bad review from it yet!

I had heard about this show a lot and flicked it on yesterday! In one moment I was hooked! I also discoverd that Uktv gold (sky digital users - 109) are showing it and they are showing it every night at 11pm! Tonights episode is the third one of the first season!

i presume the E, F or P show was the second one? or why the previous one so low,

are those ratings ok, good, or very good?

Yes English, Fitz and Percy was the season episode on at 10PM. I think the reason the second one was so low was people didn't know it was starting at 9PM.

For comparison here are the RTE ratings for lost season one:

    Season One Ratings:

    SEPTEMBER 26th: Exodus, Part Three 433,000 #1
    SEPTEMBER 26th: Exodus, Part Two: 369,000 #3
    SEPTEMBER 19th Exodus, Part One: 427,000 #2
SEPTEMBER 19th: Born to Run: 365,000 #3 (A KATE Episode)
SEPTEMBER 12th: The Greater Good: 429,000 #1 (A SAYID Episode)
    SEPTEMBER 12th: Lost: The Journey: 348,000 #2 (Catch-Up Special)
SEPTEMBER 5th: Do No Harm: 326,000 #3 (A JACK Episode)
SEPTEMBER 5th: Deux Ex Machina: 287,000 #5 (A LOCKE Episode)
    AUGUST 29th: Numbers: 277,000 #2 (A HURLEY Episode)
    AUGUST 29th: ...In Translation: 206,000 #8 (A JIN Episode)
    AUGUST 22nd: Outlaws: 296,000 #3 (A SAWYER EPISODE)
    AUGUST 22nd: Homecoming: 269,000 #5 (A CHARLIE Episode)
    AUGUST 15th: Special: 256,000 #2 (A MICHAEL/WALT Episode)
    AUGUST 8th: Hearts and Minds:293,000 #3 (A BOONE/SHANNON Episode)
AUGUST 1st: Whatever the Case May Be: 213,000 #4 (A KATE Episode)
JULY 25th: All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues:271,000 #3 (A JACK Episode)
JULY 18th: Raised By Another: 269,000 #3 (A CLAIRE Episode)
    JULY 11th: Solitary: 269,000 #2 (A SAYID Episode)
    JULY 4th : Confidence Man: 250,000 #2 (A SAWYER Episode)
    JUNE 27th: The Moth: 244,000 #2 (A CHARLIE Episode)
JUNE 20th: House of the Rising Sun: 290,000 #2 (A SUN and JIN Episode)
    JUNE 13th:White Rabit: 245,000 #3 (A JACK Episode)
    JUNE 6th: Walkabout: 242,000 #5 (A LOCKE Episode)
    MAY 30TH: Tabula Rasa: 350,000 #1 (A KATE Episode)
    MAY 23RD:Lost Pilot Part 2: 329,000 #3
    MAY 23RD:Pilot Part 1: 414,000 #1

As you can see Lost also strated of with realitively low numbers but built as the series progressed.

Anyone of any reason for the poor showing during Part 1 and sudden shoot-up of people during Part 2 of 'Riots, Drills and the Devil'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

There are probably an umber of reasons. People forgot the show started at nine. People not at Home. Big Brother. The News.

But i don't understand how can people follow it after missing one episode.

But a difference of over 100,000 is huge.

The same thing happened to Lost last year with its double bills. The second episode was always watched by a substantially larger number of viewers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Narcissus

It's unfortunate that the ratings don't do it justice(in comparison with the Lost figures) because it's such a cracking show. Hopefully they'll pick up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,514 ✭✭✭Rollo Tamasi

Those figures highlight RTE's poor advertising tactics more than anything else imo. Rarely do RTE get it right with promotion imo.

These double bills are flopping for them all ends up.

I disagree every week there is a trailer for Prison Break while during Lost season one the stopped after about the third episode and only stated at the end while during season 2 they had a Scrubs/Father Ted Repeat etc./ Lost combo and constantly refered to it as "Comedy night on RTE2".

Even before Prison Break premiered the had Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell announcing the show. They even did them specially for RTE.

So I wouldn't blame RTE completely. The summer is a terrible time for a series to launch and maybe people just didn't like it or it didn't appeal to the the same was Lost or Desperate housewives does. Prison Break is unbelievably ludacris.

I don't think it will make much of a difference. I think if people haven;t started watching by now they are not going to start.
But on the plus size I was in Virgin Megastore on Sauturday and prison Break part one was number one on their DVD chart.

Its brilliant the show is really catching on and it is encouraging to me as Rte might take a look at the ratings and not pull another 24/Alias/Law & Order/Crimanal Intent/Smallville on us.

Personally, I think the double bills are great. I don't think one episode was enough when they started the series in June. I look forward to the next episodes every week as you can see the plot coming together nicely. Its hardly like there is anything decent on lately.
