Yeah was it a mistype should it have been 5000?

Sorta guessed that, 72 services would make it an expensive car to run!

Maybe it was owned by one little old lady who had loads of money!

    Mike.

Too much time, because she was retired? :)

Just wondering in honda5 are those lexus lights....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    look like Lexus lights alright.

Some boy racers get their cars registered and insured in their mammys name for cheap insurance.............

Is it my imagination or is "TB 70K" written in tippex on the engine block? (Honda3)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

WHere is that Colm my hawk eyes are broken

    there

Betty, don't want to be pi$$ing on your cornflakes but I think I'd be checking that apparent tippex mark to see if it does indeed read TB 70k, which would indicate that the timing belt was changed at 70,000 miles. If it was, and the 36k miles was not a typo, then you seem to have a problem.

Coupled with the induction kit and the possible Lexus-lights at the back, it would seem that this car mightn't exactly have been the granny-runabout that you understood it was. Hopefully the well-known dealer is well-known to stand over his/her cars.

That engine bay looks like it has been steam cleaned to me. I always get paranoid when I see the engine bay cleaned like that.

36k miles sounds very low mileage for an 11 year old car but not impossible. Also one lady owner of a car with an induction kit and lexus type rear lights is also unusual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Ya also the TB 70k is something of concern..

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,366 ✭✭✭ninty9er

Induction kit and the fact the engine is actually clean would be an immediate tip off that it wasn't an old lady

It's mainly young guys and girls who clean under the bonnet

On the "minus the alloys" comment - maybe they were too good to leave on the car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

damn it I'm good (provided I'm right of course)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,465 ✭✭✭✭cantdecide

still is a good deal though. it does seem to be well minded. could it be 70k kilometres??? 36k miles would still be a porky, but only a small one.
personally i wouldn't care about the miles but i would make a point of taking it to a jap specialist just for some peace of mind. if the car is okay but telling lies, i would approach the dealer to get some redress.

Does cartell.ie give any indication of previous milage from NCT's ??

If so, it might be worth investing a few euro in a report.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I'm presuming it's an Irish model, bought from a well known dealer, and manuals seem to be in English!

Wouldn't expect wonders for €2,700 anyway!

It's 11 yrs old, why do you think you got a great deal at 2700, You could have gotten a 95 Carina or Corolla in good nick for that and a Mondeo, Vectra or astra for less

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,815 ✭✭✭✭Anan1

I wonder what's with the service history.

A civic is far more desirable though

Also, check the passenger door - it seems out of alignment at the top. Possibly broken into and\or possibly stolen or attempted stolen at some stage...
Seems a lot of money for a small old car. High insurance group and a target for thieves. Sorry. :(

So does Colm have an eagle eye and did it state "TB 70K"?
If not, what was it? If you don't know, take a high-res pic and post here. Surely someone will be able to figure it out

Would it mean it was changed and needs to be done AGAIN @ 70K rather than implying the car was clocked?

Theoretically it would be possible, but I very much doubt that. It would imply that a Civic needs a TB every 35k miles. I don't think so. That is strictly FIAT territory :)

You'd have to see this car in person to really see how new it is and as for a mondeo and the likes!!!!! yeah..............right...............

that was a bit much there godfather69er. Why do these discussions always bring the worst out in people ? Sick of seeing this kind of agressive response on boards.

Looks like a genuine car in as much as one can judge on the other end of a computer screen. I had a 1.5Vtec as my first car, and I wish I still had it. Great little motor.

    Good luck with it !

No need to get defensive! Its a nice car in good condition, but so it should be for the price.

On the one hand €2700 is way over the odds regardless of it's condition but on the other hand it's still makes more sense than buying a new small Renault or Peugeot.

OK, average mileage of 62 miles per week for 11 years, just about believable.
Does the car have its original pedals/gearstick/steering wheel?
Is there noticable wear on any of these?

As for the perfectly clean engine, body and interior - not neccessarily bad signs, its well worth carefull cleaning to get maximum value.

Brand new manuals as a selling point

What will tell you most is the guarantee - how long and whats covered?
    all parts & labour?
    all except consumables?
    major parts only?

Way over the odds in general for a '95, but if its as good as you think it is €2,700 wasn't a bad price.

    Best of luck with it.

The most important thing on a car of that type is a documented service history. This will confirm the mileage, show how the car has been cared for and indicate when the timing belt has been changed.
