    My Votes

    Day 4:
Common wins, numerous great solo efforts, i like Chali but he's better as a featuring artist or part of a group
Nas takes Busta, but not by a mile. Busta was great in his early days with leaders of new school, etc. Guess same could be said of Nas but he's a better MC at the end of the day
Guru in the third. Massively influential. Has a really distinctive style and one of the best partnerships ever alongside Primo

    Day 5:
One Be Lo in the first. Doesn't even merit explanation
Black Thought in the second. Love the roots and his delivery is fantastic. theres a lot of energy and emotion in his rhymes.
J-Live in the third. Eminem is just a gimmick(?), whereas J-Live is a quality MC.

    Day 6:
Wordsworth in the first. Saw him live with Punchline and they were quality. Really like his style and very smart lyrically.
Mos Def in the 2nd. Black on Both Sides is a classic and he proved his class by making an alternative album which still sounds good.
Pharoahe Monch in the 3rd. He really is on another planet to most MCs lyrically. Needs to put more work out though

common in the first. consistently great albums.
nas in the second. busta sold out, so did nas somewhat, still better emcee.
guru in the third cause of his influence.aesop is still class

hha, One be lo of course.
black thought in 2nd. Brilliant emcee.
J-Live in the 3rd. Em had his day but is now sh*te, j-live is pure quality.

Words in the 1st. saw him at the sugar club too. Mirror Music is unreal, complexity of his lyrics, everything.
mos def in the 2nd, smooths still good though,
    monch in the 3rd. Great

    KRS-One vs Redman

    Saul Williams vs Ghostface Killah

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

I'm going with Masta Ace in the first. At the top of the game for a long time. IT will be a major force in time i reckon

KRS in the 2nd, i can only really listen to Redman in small doses.

Ghostface in the third, like what i've heard from Saul williams (albeit not that much), but both of ghostface first two albums were class and he always sonds good on collaborations too

    Third goes to Ghostface

just can we get somethin sorted...is this a battle of emcee skills or career?

Ace i suppose in the first
    KRS in the 2nd
Saul W in the 3rd, c'mon people u gotta realise how SUPERB he actually is

The way i've been djudging is a combo of reasons really. Just trying to take each MC on their merits, trying to look at skills, longevity, influence, etc...and whoever fits the overall bill i'm voting for. If people want to limit it to purely skills from this point on, i've no qualms about it?

Good idea, but where is the greatest rapper of all time - Tupac? Maybe you decided not to put him in cause he just wouldn't be bet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Nobody nominated him at the start of the thread.

    Day 10:
    Aesop Rock
    Guru
    J-Live

    Day 11:
    Black Thought

Hi folks, back from my break, so gonna kick this back off from where i left it. i know the voting hasn't been massive but i've started so i'll finish.

And as mentioned earlier by mods, the reason why 2pac, etc... are not involved are that I opened it up for people to nominate the MCs they wanted to include in it and once it was filled no-one else could be entered. It was not due to the fact that 2pac "just wouldn't be bet"

    Anyway here's day 10 & 11 Match Results:

Aesop Rock 1-1 One Be Lo
    Guru 2-0 50 Cent
    Styles P 0-2 J Live

    Black Thought 2-0 Eminem
    Wordsworth 1-1 CL Smooth
    Vinny Paz 0-2 Mos Def

    Pharoah Monche vs Masta Ace

    Immortal Technique vs Apathy

    KRS-One vs Ghostface Killah

    Saul Williams vs Redman

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

That first match is almost too close to call for me, they're both very different, but both amazing MCs. Pharoah is just going to shade it for me though.

Second match i'm going with Immortal Technique.

Third is again a tough call, both have consistently put out strong material, both have distinctive styles, but I think I gotta give it to KRS by a nose.

Fourth i'm going with Saul Williams. I'm Not really Redman's biggest fan, only really like his collaborative stuff, and i think Williams is far stronger lyrically.
