How come we never got the other flavours of monster munch over here?

I can only ever find the yellow spicey crisps. I want my pickled onion flavour crisps right now dammit!

Go for the Mega Meanies then. Cheaper greener and most importantly Made In Ireland. Theres also a red monster on the front of the packet if its the whole monster thing you're after.

Sound advice pighead..OR you could get a packet of generic crisps and eat them with a jar of pickled onions, they'd last longer too.

Why did we only ever get the little fact box on the cyclops?

When Monster Munch first came out I thought that we were going to be regularly enlightened with facts about various mythological beasts.... but no... it was always the bloody cyclops.

Yes this always irked me also.

The cyclops is gone now isnt it?

Have you ever tried putting a few monster munch in vodka and then drinking it? Lovely. Works with beer as well.

They are in Ireland, in a purple pack I believe, but you have to be prepared to travel into the country for em. Any small newsagent in a small village is good bet.

Only thing I didn't like about Monster Munch was, you might get three of them in the pack covered in flavouring and the rest are as as dry as fook.

haven't they changed the name to mighty munch

I haven't seen a real packet of monster munch in years

For the record best crisps/taytos/snack in a bag ever

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 850 ✭✭✭DOLEMAN

I think Mighty Munch are the Irish ones (Tayto or something) and Monster Munch are the UK ones (Walkers?)

They both taste the same though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Vegeta

ahhhh that would explain it then, I haven't seen the walkers version in years though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yeah... I just went to the shop to buy 2 packets... I asked for Monster Munch and I got Mighty Munch... it's just not on... it's a completely different type of munch.

    No cyclops either.

Oh.. and for a price check : 46c

we got ripped on the 10p crisps.
they used to weigh 20 grammes, but now they are 16 grammes and cost 20 cent. ****.

mind you, i regularly pay €2.20 for a pack of walkers thai sweet chili. nicest crisps ever (except for nice 'n spicy flavour nik naks).

Tayto made Monster Munch under liscence from KP or Walkers one of the two until KP/Walkers decided to expand their product line in the Irish market. As a result Tayto changed the name and declared a 'new improved flavour' at the same time.

Mighty Munch (old monster munch) are much better than the walkers monster munch. I'd love some now!

I remember I once managed to get a packet of non puple monster monster munch (I got the fat blue guy , beef iirc?) and I almost instinctively savoured each crisp as if I knew a day like this would not come again

Anyway Alien Spacers kicked monster munches ass. Tasted nicer and instead of ol cyclops everytime you instead got an assortment of 8 comic strips.

Are they really tho? I used to think the same but then I found a box containing all my old toys from when I was a kid and as I held them in my hand to my dismay I could tell that each and every one of them had shrunk over the intervening years.

i too have borne for many years this feeling of being totally gipped by only ever reading about the cyclops as a child. How i wished back then to even SEE a different flavour packet of monster munch

in other news, walkers thai sweet chili is nice but those current mccoys posh flavour range are the knees of bees.

I heartily concur on the spicy nik naks and would add that cheesy wotsits hold their own against crisp

but then what happend to burger bites? :(

Aldi does the fancy McCoys crisps.

I got a nice big bag of Thai Sweet Chicken flavour there for €1.49.

Speaking of crisps changing since we were young.....does anyone remember cheese and onion crisps by the name of "Ma Reily's"?? There were in a red bag with a see through part on the front, 10p they cost, no one I know remembers them

As for the Mighty Munch, had a packet of them last night, jeez, them things really know how to cling to your teeth and then you get the few that are practically bright red because they have so much falvouring in them.......:D they make your face scrunch up!! :p

I remember them only because there was a guy in my class called "Reilly" or possibly "O'Reilly" who rather unsensibly used to eat them all the time and being kids we'd always take the piss out him by going "was yer Ma up early making your lunch again for ya?"

This getting more and more All Things Retro by the post...

But does anyone remember Hedgehog Crisps? You would get them in health food shops and some of a money went to Hedgehog rescue centres... They were really tasty.

Cool! I knew they existed and that it wasnt my imagination....:) . Cheers!

Just found this from Boards.ie back in 2002:
Anyone from laois remember Ma Reily's, they were the ultimate poxy crisp that your aunt or granny always bought you, Adbundant in the laois area.(the crisps, not granny's)

RE: that thing with the Cyclops on the back of the Monster Munch packets. I've never been able to find an image of it online. Anyone who grew up in 80s Ireland will remember it. It showed him about to bite into what looked like a big stone, though presume it was supposed to be a loaf of bread, and the stone/loaf was dripping with red gore.

Does anyone have an old packet that they could scan and upload?
