I can't believe Cagney and Lacey haven't got more votes!

Behind the cheesey theme tune that show was (and still is) a really edgey show. It dealt with things you wouldn't even find in detective shows today.

Remember when Cagney gets date-raped and a number of episodes pass where she's totally compromised by it in her job?

Remember the episode where Cagney and Lacey have conflicting opinions over who shot who at a crime scene and a young rookie's neck is on the line over it? That episode was pure character/relationship autopsy between the two of them.

It may have been brilliant 1980's kitsch in parts but it was also really gripping.

Haven't seen anything on The Bill or CSI: Miami that comes close.

I loved Starsky and Hutch; Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul played brilliantly off one another and both were hot as hell.

Andy Sipowitz with John Kelly and/or Bobby Simone in NYPD Blue. Back when it was good.

Quite like Benson and Stabler on Law and Order, Special Victims Unit, they've got a nice mojo going on between them. Remember Scarecrow and Mrs King? I cannot even remember the premise of the show - weren't they private investigators?

    Saintly

Anyone else remember Saphire & Steele with Joanna Lumley and David McCallum? It wasn't really a detective series though - more sci fi I suppose.
