Bob Dylan is to headline the Source Festival in Kilkenny this summer.
The US folk legend will be supported by alternative rockers the Flaming Lips for the gig at Nowlan Park on June 24th.

    Me likes Flaming Lips.

I'll tell my ma about Bob Dylan cos she couldn't get tickets for the Cork gig.

How early would one have to start queueing to get a ticket?

I'm going to pass on this one. As much as I'd love to see either of them again I have a special plan for this world...

I queued from half six this morning till they went on sale at nine. Probably a bad idea.

It might be a bit mean of me to burst the bubble for you guys but....

My parents and brother went to see Bob Dylan at one of his UK gigs a few months back and they thought it was terrible!

They are all big fans of his and were looking forward to it, my mum especially, but they said he was mumbling & slurring his words, and the songs were unrecognisable. Apparently you couldn't tell what songs he was singing from the tune, just the lyrics if you could make them out!

Plus, a friend of mine from work, who usually likes his stuff, went to see his gig a month or so back and she said also said that he was awful!

I'm sure that not everyone who sees him in concert thinks he's bad, but it might be no harm to be aware of how hit & miss he can be!

^^^^ i have heard his concerts are a bit shambolic with loads of people disappointed, i think you've just got to appreciate what the guy has done and that he has his own way of doing things even if it pisses his fans off. I have never seen him but would dearly love to, i've got too much on over the summer to go to Kilkenny, but the next time he plays Dublin im there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

his concerts are such an... intersting and inspiring experience!

anyone who expects to hear the "hits" like they are on the album.. DONT GO.
cos that would be what the majority of people may want and expect... and if you know anything about bob, you should know he does what the hell he wants, not what people expect...!

i've seen him three times, and one of those times was possibly the finest concerts i've ever been to...

theres a very dedicated fan base out there that go to the conerts, and if you're going to hear Blowin In The Wind or something, you might want to reconsider... ;)
or at least get your hands on a few bootlegs so you might get some idea what to expect

theyre great though, i love them.

im 18 at the moment, and i've been pretty much the youngest there each time..
i like that, the fact the screaming 15 year old girls have been replaced by equally giddy 50 year old men and other such hardcore fans!

got my ticket to Kilkenny, cant wait :)

    but shambolic?
    nope.

his band are stunning, and the man just oozes cool.

the reason people might say that is cos it was completely different to what they may have expected and that surprised them...

The last time Dylan played Kilkenny he was absolutely killer. One of the best shows of my life. I saw him again in Dublin and he was absolutely pants. It's really luck of the draw on the night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭tracert

Saw him in Dublin in November. Great gig. I wasn't expecting much, and I was really surprised.

No such thing as a "Bad" Dylan concert.... you have a Dylan concert and a Fantastic Dylan concert..... You get your moneys worth in the first 10 mins, anything after that is a bonus....This will be number 6 in ireland for me (cork, not kilkenny) and have walked away from each one glad i spent my hard earned cash for 90-120 mins of pure pleasure.......roll on june 25 !!

Were you at the one in Dublin when he was suffering from viral laryngitis? He had to cancel the following night's gig. He should have cancelled them both rather then giving such a poor performance. He wasn't well enough to give the gig his all in Dublin and it showed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Yeah, the Dylan Point gig in 2003 was pretty bad. Gig last year was much better but I still feel I have yet to be blown away by him in a live setting. Hopefully Kilkenny.

is that the one in 04 ? the millstreet one was canceled ? if it was i have to disagree with you, no voice problems were evident to me that night....

i was at that one too, nov 2003?
that was my frist one, so i had nothign to compare it to, and i really enjoyed it, but looking back on it now, it wasnt his best...

    Galway, June 2004 anyone?
now that was a gig to be blown away at :D

turns out i think im going to both Cork & Kilkenny, wooooooo!

first time i saw him was kilkenny(when ronnie wood came on stage and also the first time i heard of the frames when glen hansard played) then i have seen him three times in the point since and i loved every minute of each - as people have already said dont expect the big songs but stuff from love and theft is great and his band are amazing...

if you love dylan i would defo recommend it but if you only like his big ones dont as he probably wont play them and if he does they'll be massively changed. but then again even if you dont know much of his stuff its an awesome experience...

all in all the man is a legend on a seemingly never ending tour

They're playing Leeds the following day, so no.

Violent Femmes have been added to the Kilkenny gig, according to their official site. Now that's a freakin' sweet lineup, couldn't get enough of them last time.

Just added to my already happy day!! What a lineup!!

I bought tickets for Dylan in Kilkenny this summer but I think I may have got the wrong tickets in the post (does this happen often?).

Anyway, does anyone know what the difference is between the standing tickets for this gig? They range from €50 - €75. I presume this means the dearer the ticket the closer to the stage, no? I was at his last show in Kilkenny and they didn't have any 'sections' in the standing area. It was basically go wherever you want on the pitch.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I was charged for the €75 tickets but got €65 tickets in the post. Actually, just looking at them now again... they've got someone elses name printed on them so they're definitely the wrong ones!!

Well, if anyone can answer my question re the price difference I'd be greatful anyway.:)

    Cheers

hi,I got standing tickets, they are 65 each, think the 50 and 75 tickets are for seating, with the standing being general admission, go where you want. Probably best to get onto ticketmaster about it if you have wrong tix...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

Yeah yargle is right, standing tickets are 65, theres only one standing area GA, heres the chart from ticketmaster

Anyone any idea about the return train to Dylan in Kilkenny, such as how long after the gig it will be returning to Dublin? Don't fancy being stuck in Kilkenny with nowhere to stay! How far is Nowlan Park from the train station?
    Thanx...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭tracert

Dunno about timetables, but the station is a two minute walk from Nowlan.

Have a feeling the last one one might be about 9 or so maybe there is a later one though. Might even be a special service with th gig on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

For the Nowlan Park gig, the only tickets left on ticketmaster.ie are the €65 and €70 ones. I can't really figure out from the site if the €65 ones are standing or seated?

Also, is it hard to get into the standing section with a seated ticket?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭Sean7

I believe the €65 ones are standing, I think mine was about that €60 at least I think and it's standing. But it should say on ticketmaster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

But surely standing is standing... like free for all kinda. How can they charge different prices? I don't understand the Ticketmaster stuff...:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭tracert

Eh, on the ticketmaster site, "pitch standing" is a standing ticket. The only price under "pitch standing" is €65.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭Sean7

    PITCH STANDING
    €50.00 - €65.00

    Ticketmaster are bastárds

If you click on section, and then select pitch standing from the list, the only tickets you can buy in that section cost €65. You can also buy Wheelchair area tickets, though, for €50, which is probably where the ticketmaster fúck-up comes from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭Redegg

i thought simple kid is supporting no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Ah yeah, but the Cork show is tiny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

nope simple kid supports David Gray, yeah in fairness we do get the advantage of seeing him indoors and a smaller crowd, fingers crossed they add someone decent even at this stage (not Mundy please!)
